he talks first about the early years of wenge  saying werra started on rhythm guitar then became a singer later on and talks about their struggle as for example they had to pay technicians of groups to play before those group step on stage(viva, empire and co ) whereas the leaders agreed, they had to walk for long distances and sometimes they could not perform because of heavy rain...
he says before playing guitar he used to play mbonda, harmonica, harmonium, flute then when aged 9 he started learning guitar
he is asked why it seems his best participation on a wenge album is on hi ho ha  he says maybe because unlike kalayi boeing he went back to kin with the group to prepare album  whereas in kalayi boeing they worked in kin and he added some parts once they came to europe as he stayed in europe
he is asked about the split and says it was because of leadership and werra messing up in his role of financial director which caused upset in the group and that unlike what people believe it was not something prepared that what became wenge bcbg  was already well planned to attack werra it just happened naturally  that those who were upset  stuck together in order to change the situation which later on became a group  after split, and he says he told jb that since leadership issues caused damage they should pick him as the only leader in front of people then  in private know that him alain is also a leader administrator and artistic director and blaise a leader administrator chef d'orchestre but it seems jb misunderstood it and was influenced in turning the group fully into his own by getting rid of them
and he said today we can say the split was positive because it helped werra and jb become how they are today
he talks about zenith concert  saying it was very tense between him and jb a whole week before the show and he was very angry and he even did not want to participate at concert( he was for example unhappy that jb changed  what they had  planned when he went back to kin to work with the group and how jb brought the team of kibens and co while he prefered sticking to that team of bataclan so like we know alain mpela was sent to tell him he was not starting the show and kibens did the sound setup instead of him)
he says he was really pissed but he played a couple of songs at the end just as a sign of respect for the crowd but he was not really feeling it like usual
he also said jb should not think he reveals the bcbg leadership thing to embarass him,its history and he is a friend and they have meet a lot recently in kin(and i also heard that jb had invited him at failed zenith of few years ago to apologize in public for what happened in the past and that he also attended a couple of bcbg's studio sessions recently as jb wanted him to monitor tolbert solo's work)
he is asked why he sung jack kitshindja back in the days instead of a singer and he says it was meant to be jb but jb was hesitating because the song was a bit strange compared to what he was used to and also  werra was upset because alain never picked him to lead his songs but he says it was not something personal against werra it just happened that the songs he released were destined to tenorists like jb or guys like alain mpela who could do high notes

i would even say impact was felt in the whole clan when he disappeared, since he was the one but pushed all them guys to their best especially jb and werra since they are those who had the best post4X4 careers
basically except his participation in aimelia's project and his album ya ku dominer he was absent for most of those tense years
but until today i am stunned by how the guys played most that zenith as if makaba did not even exist, his absence was not felt except for ficarre and his funny tuning of his guitars

it was  a lot of things i believe there was something about leadership and contracts first, then he was unhappy of having lost control of the artistic side of group  and the fact jb decided to bring a too large bcbg for his liking and what really make it explode is how makaba was informed since he missed last rehearsals and came late for concert he would not go on stage and that got makaba very pissed as he felt treated like an employee whereas  he (rightfully) felt equal to jb so he insulted  kibens even though he knew and appreciated him,i think he just needed to throw his anger at somebody, imagine that was the first zenith of the history of whole clan wenge and the man who did most of wenge's artistic philosophy loses control over authority issues and especially kibens was sent to do the sound setup( he deserves big credit for that lol)

Makaba and blaise made a big mistake by letting jb be the leader in front of everyone,I did also wonder why he always used jb for his songs im glad he cleared that up I wish he was still around for jb and bcbg properly it sometimes gets to me that he doesn't get the full recognition he deserves this man was the brains behind 4x4 and bcbg

This is what happens when a team decides on a leader, and the leader either usurps the full powers or goes against the agreed direction.

History is full of such arrangements in politics, coups, and business ventures, where initially there is great enthusiasm and team spirit. Once the goal is achieved, some leaders forget how they became leaders and start asserting themselves over the other colleagues.

It takes a lot of courage and openness to keep leaders accountable once they taste power.

Just before the Wenge 4X4 split, I attended all their shows in Nairobi, and he tension was already palpable in there, and factions had already started forming within the group.

Anyway, now all the leaders in that original group have all made their paths and some are more successful than others, although the truth now comes out in small bits and pieces, hope someone collects all the views and makes a complete dossier from all the interviews of the different leaders to get the full perspective.

Mannn....  the journalist was very stupid to interrupt Alain (who talking about the improvisation album Pile-Ou-Face which was not really planned) and asking then questions about the Wenge-slipt, while everybody know what the reason was of the split.

Alain said that Pile Ou Face was recorded in Europe, while Wenge was in Zaire. But how did Titina, Ekokota & J.B. then participate to the album?
I think that things in Wenge BCBG would have been different, if Alain Makaba chosed to return along with BCBG to Kinshasa after the Titanic-tour. And that it would have been more difficult for J.B. to kick him and Blaise out from Wenge.

Why doesnt just create a new wenge just for fun . i  really think he has nothing to lose anyway
he still got the stamina and all it takes to make a great group. take  aimelia, alain mpela and Titina if possible  with him . im pretty sure  JB will loose lot of musicians, especially those youngsters .. not to go against jb but someone needs to shake him(JB) very well ....

bana kin need to sign a petition requesting him to create a group as he really has the right .
having studio is good but as good as he is , he need to be on stage playing  good music ( rumba and good seben)..
