If that Rihanna collaboration happens, I'll be super surprised! I figured Fally Ipupa would do it first, he's already well on his way (remember that R. Kelly collaboration).

lol, you actually think Rihanna would do a featuring with a Congolese guy named Bill Clinton? Nonsense. Rihanna barely does featurings for western artists unless they're huge. Every now and then our artists and their staff fabricate news of "I'm doing a featuring with X major American artist" just because.

R Kelly did his featuring Fally when he began to hit rock bottom, especially recently. It's to the point where Fally is doing him a favor, with how far he's falling in this #Metoo era.

Sankara used to say that Werra had a featuring with Michael Jackson in the works, and it was Michael who called Werra to do it... ;D ;D ;D. Koffi once said that JLo was supposed to be featured on Effrakata, aka the era when she was the biggest pop artist in the US.

lol, this guy is seriously riding Fally now, smh ::)

Can we all agree that Bill had the path of least resistance to become a leader? He talks as if he went 3 fois disque d'or and won Koras...

Where did the featering of Bill with Nicki Minaj go which he promised us in 2012 after the Africa Cup of Nations ? Kiekiekie

Yeah, that was in the interview with Martin Sinnock before the Licoln Center. Saying that J.Lo would be in Effrakata. Back in 2010 he said that Rihanna would feature in Abacadabra and in 2014 he said that Naomi Campbell sung with him in 13eme Apotre.

If Congolese artist could access previous venues to peform their music (Bercy, Zenith, ect) and better utilize the internet to promote their music, they could make their music go viral and attract high-profile features.

Through a reputation for good tours, memorable music video, and solid albums...Koffi was able to secure enough clout to attract Coumba Gawlo and Passi for his solo album.

Can you imagine what he could have gotten if social media existed back then?  The fan base of congolese music was sizable back then, but lacked the networking to bridge the gap between the dispora in the USA and everywhere else.

As for R. Kelly, he has enough hit songs from his discography to tour for the remainder of his life. Until the #metoo movement can organize a boycott of venues from booking him, he'll stay float. The majority of artist make their income from touring tbh, their record label eats everything else

Tbh, Koffi was huge in 1999, so he could've gotten a yes from many artist to do featurings.

Nope, not even that is safe anymore. Spotify just removed all his music from any playlists this past week, along with other artists accused of assault. He made a public statement as a result because it'll hit his pockets hard in the long run. He also had his latest tour cut short because of very low attendance....

My issue with #Metoo is that people are being found gulty on on the solely basis of accusation, but I digress. Another topic for another day

The Wenge-clan really killed our music with that polemic about that president-role after the split and giving that role as president to much importance. With Adolphe saying  "niama azalaka jamais mokonzi ya moto" to attack Werra. JB Mpiana attacking Werrason with "ata layi soki obengaki nga president te". This all gave a bad influence to the next generation with nobody caring about teamwork, but just about who gives the other ones orders. Guys from the 3th generation didn't care all about that on the most time they were giving the president-role to their manager or donor and themselves focusing more on music. It was from 1 already clear that Les Marquis would split when they made an interview with Yves Kambala. The succes of Fally & Ferre made it worser and all artists wanting to be leaders. Lacoste, Flamme Kapaya, Roi David & Celeo could have easily teamed up together to form a band with the succes they had and split after 3 or 2 years instead of being solo artists each on his own side and releasing albums who risk to flop. Those Maison Mere-artists who unhappy back in 2014 (Deplick, Prince, Lobeso, Olivier, Miel, Taddet, Corean & Eboa Lotin) could have easily formed a splinter-band, but they are to pride not wanting the other giving orders with them leaving one by one and risking to flop in their solo careers. Les Marquis had just to give the president-role to Ma'Jacky Watunda who was supporting them alot. Btw where is Jacky Watunda now ?

its also the fans and journalists, notice how when on a rare occasion at least two known people are together to form a new group journalists like papy mboma or naty will ask them straight, who will be the president who will make decisions or especially papy will do even worse and pull something like ' do you know that him as the leader can send you to buy donuts in the corner of the street" or something like that
then months after when split start to happen be like "omoni nayebisaki bino ekokende mosika te"
indeed about clan wenge, from the moment they really understood the prestige of president role the mess started, nsone started to want to take it by force away from jb when fame got strong with the fact he is a original co founder,jb refused to give it back and started fuelling himself with the idea that nsone is becoming jealous, and same story in bcbg and maison mere where they kicked their threats out to be solid untouchable presidents
and its even worse with youngsters now with that phenomenon of the musicians commenting, clapping, laughing or whatever after leader said something, for example gabanna got jealous of how musicians of their group were shouting mokonnnnnnziii,le formidable, boss des boss and stuff like that while he considered himself on par with joss and started going solo again before joining maison mere
