THE NDOMBOLO TRENDSETTERS

FELLY DIMBEDI MUMBA" TYSON DE BA FORMES"

Felly grows in the quarters of mombele and yolo and starts learning on makeshift guitars trying to imitate his idol beniko popolipo then in zaiko langa langa, then like most musicians continues learning in street groups
he will participate in a competiton for young artists of various areas in the group representing yolo in 1989
one year later,he is spotted by tolin shitokay, close petit of koffi olomide who is on the verge of transforming his quartier latin into a permanent group rather than a group of musicians he calls when needing them and has to cope when some are unavailable
after months of hesitation, with family wanting him to go far at school aswell, felly decides to come to quartier latin for a test
he becomes one of the first members of the quartier latin international who are presented officially and plays in the group first ever album pas de faux pas in 1992
one year later,he welcomes his idol beniko in the group and from his own words becomes a much better guitarist with beniko's advice and coaching
he will then become a pivotal member of the group despite his shyness and tours all around the world with the group and becomes quartier latin's chef d'orchestre from 2000 to 2003(replaced by fally ipupa)
he will leave quartier latin in 2009 and join f-victeam group of fally ipupa 2 years later

MAKAMBO MOTULI "ILE DE CAMBODGE"

born and raised in the area of bandalungwa, and like most of the young men born in 1980's develops his taste for music through wenge musica
while most of his friends prefer being singers,he will discover himself a certain passion for drums as when they are having fun together he plays with makeshift sticks on a piece of wood
few times later in the mid 1990's he will then get occasion to play in some of those street groups who mostly tried to be 'mini-wenge musicas"
he will then play for a short time in fraternité musica with their leader didi kalombo and then new city with the likes of blaise element, fally ipupa, flamme kapaya...
in the late 1990's,he is recruited by gode lofombo in delta force,a group of younger musicians than empire bakuba,he will remain with lofombo after pepe kalle's death untill 2001
in fact,he is approached to join quartier latin as koffi olomide wants a drummer and straight away he impresses so much that he is given majority of songs to play on koffi olomide's album effrakata and participates in zenith of the same year
towards the end of the year he welcomes one of his drumming role models titina in quartier latin,he gets less songs to play but still contributes a good amount and this until 2004 and an american tour where he decides to leave the group
back in kinshasa,he tries to join wenge bcbg but the presence of seguin mignon with who he has a very bad relationship which resulted in both being arrested by police 4 times after fights makes him change his mind,he is approached to join viva and replace the late deo but is reluctant as he "prefers to be in a group with guys of his generation" and finally joins wenge maison mere
but his maison mere experience will end up being totally opposite of quartier latin's as he has to cope with  an untouchable papy kakol, and ends up playing only on some minor ads and in concerts
in 2011,as fally ipupa is looking for a drummer to replace his drummer who disappeared in europe after zenith, cambodge decides to go and does not even need a test
straight away he starts playing at concerts and in 2015 he releases his first ever song station service in f victeam's group album libre parcours

RICHARD TITINA MBUINGA KAMBOLETA "AL CAPONE LE GRAND CADRE

titina mbuinga was born in 1971 and grows in bandalungwa,he will like many musicians sing at church and at same time learns to play instruments like rythm guitar, mbonda but he will develop a very strong interest for drums, heavily inspired by drummers like belobi meridjo, ilo pablo and also richacha balengola which earns him nickname "petit richacha" at a school called athenee de la gombe
closely followed by his best friend and "benchmate"naty lokole, titina will play in the school's group alongside the likes of willy bula, mimi ciel, laudy mukaba... and he is spotted by jb mpiana who takes him into wenge musica 4X4 to be maradona's backup but titina becomes the group's number 1 as maradona moves to europe and becomes a major member of the group and next to alain makaba learns a lot in terms of arrangement and artistic direction
he  releases one song kama mvuama and remains wenge's only drummer until second half of the 1990's where he requests a reserve drumme and gets one in seguin mignon which he trains hard
when wenge split,he follows jb,makaba and blaise bula in wenge bcbg and once again shines and becomes artistic director when alain makaba leaves
in 2001,he receives a third approach from koffi olomide, and at the same time he is upset with jb about not being allowed to put some of his friend or "ngulu" clients on the huge bercy list as promised, and the fact he invites koffi olomide to his wedding despite very bad relationship between both leaders and group and jb's awareness of koffi's approach makes situation completely worse
he decides to leave after hesitating a lot,but from his own words, feels it was also time to let his understudy seguin show what he learned
he releases a solo album no comment with participation of koffi and straight away he becomes an important member of quartier latin and is the group's artistic director
he leaves the group in 2007 after group album danger de mort,as he is denied authorization to release a solo album
few times later he releases his second solo album affaire a suivre, and until today works on a third solo album and is involved in several albums of various musicians as a session artist

JOE KAPAYA MWENIE " CAPITAINE FLAMME"

Born in 1978 joe kapaya grows in bandalungwa in a family of several musicians and also influence of traditional music as he is the grand son of a traditional chief
he starts following his parents and brothers at church and later becomes a singer and harmonica player, and meanwhile learns guitar at home on a makeshift guitar
when he reaches adolescence,he starts playing in street groups of his neighbourhood in bandal,he will then be in retrouva kawiriko and new city
besides congolese music he also learns a lot of jazz as through elder brothers he is able to play with proper guitars
in 1996 he joins the groups golden tchatcho of duc herode mandiangu where he plays alongisde jordan kusa, bouro mpela, serge mabiala, celeo, serge mabiala...
Then two years later,he joins wenge musica maison mere were he first rotates with japonais maladi on lead and rhythm but looks still a bit raw for the big stage
but he will need just few months to massively improve and completely reaches another dimension in 2001 with album kibuisa mpimpa and becomes the group's artistic director and arranger
from then he becomes a role model to many soloists who try to play his way
in 2007 he leaves as he feels undervalued by his boss who still did not fulfill his promise of years ago to buy him a house
he releases a mini album surprise ebebaka mabe, then participates in a project with cinema director faustin linyekula which gets him involves in musical comedies and concerts in france and several francophone countries
he releases an album banningsville in which he mixes his traditional inspiration,a bit of sebene and foreign influence

to be continued...

You forgot to add that Felly Tyson has had four songs in his carrer Arche de Noé which was in Force de Frappe and then Je T'en Prie which was in Affaire d'Etat and then Martens in Danger de Mort and more recently Fin du Monde in Libre Parcours. Do you know why Felly left Quatier Latin? Didn't Cambodge join QL earlier because he was at Bercy. Cambodge wasted six years of his career at Maison Mere but he's made up for it with Fally. I didn't even know Titina had a solo album before coming to QL.

indeed i did copy and paste wrong i actually mentioned it aswell as sheraton of ultimatum which is credited to him but actually a suzuki song,no it was not only champion at bercy
felly and quadra's relationship was not as good since he was deported and also  he was not receiving messages to come to concerts for weeks,i think there is also something else but its kept secret between them

Suzuki contributed a lot in Quartier Latin. It's strange that he had officialy not a song in Ultimatum, but gave Sheraton and Papa Na Roissy to Nseka & Tyson.
Does Suzuki have more songs in Koffi & Quartier Latin albums who are not officialy credited to his name ? and did Titina already join Quartier Latin when he recored his album 'No Comment' ?

Ahahahaha Ile de Camboge at Bercy...  that's impossible and if Ile de Cambodge joined QL, than would Koffi chose Tshe-Tshe le Ball as Champion "Le Chief" Djikapela's undedrstudy. Because at that time Ile de Cambodge's style wasn't explosive as that from 2001.

Yes he did. The No Comment Album was where I first discovered Bebe Kero. and that album was before Effrakatta. So he (Titina) must have something to do with Koffi "discovering" Bebe Kero.

Archos: Could you please reference a song Cambodge played in QL? I've always thought that Champion Esthatic was QL main drummer b4 Titina Al Capone? Thanks

Champion Djikapela was the main drummer of Quartier Latin since his arrival in 1996 until till his departure in 2001.

Cambodge played almost every song of Effrakata, expect Bilan, Washington & Ravisse which was played by Champion and that really pissed Champion off, because he as the main drummer and Chef d'Orchestre and that caused the same day when they finished the studio-sessionsa heated conversation between him and Koffi, with as result Champion leaving the studio very angry and contacting Riva Menga the next day to join Wenge BCBG and Titina joining Quartier Latin the same week.

hmmmm No Comment before Effrakata ? Effrakata was released in November/December 2001 and the clips in February 2002 and No Comment came 1 or 2 months later.

I've No Comment I just didn't know it was released before he joined QL I taught it was when he left. So it seems like Koffi let him release a solo album while in QL.

titina like montana, was in the process of recording an album before joining, which is why both had solo albums before being active quartier latin members

bad timing i think he had a golden opportunity this year to seek long papers and wanted to seize it to be free for the future
his children are still at a certain age which potentially make it easier for him to get it especially as he managed to reunite them in the same house

BLANCHARD MALADI KAMBUKU " japonais kyoto"

blanchard was born in 1969 in bandundu and raised in kinshasa, like most artists he started at church and in streets with makeshift instruments, trying to imitate the likes of soloist bongo wende of viva la musica, roxy tshimpaka of zaiko, pepe felly manuaku...
his passion for music develops when he starts to learn with true instruments,as he learns not only solo, but also in interested in pretty much all the other instruments
he will then be when aged 14 in taz junior, the junior section of female group taz bolingo, where he plays alongside willy ebondaki who will later be a victoria eleison soloist and flory telecel who will be cultura's first ever drummer
in the early 1990's he joins station japana of radja kula where he replaces pitshou santiago gone to wenge el paris and gets nicknamed "petit japonais"
his fast playing style, heavily inspired of bongo wende, matches station japana's music based around eye catching choreographies and he starts to earn himself a good reputation and gets attention from bigger groups
in fact in 1996 a place is up for grabs as the number 1 alain makaba is in europe and soloist burkina faso is seen as unstable,so to avoid being left with only maitre ficarré,a new soloist is needed and japonais fits it perfectly as he is a promising talent aiming for more national and international exposure
then becomes a wenge musica member and plays a major role in jb mpiana's solo album feux de l'amour as the partitions of generique ndombolo and several songs are his
in fact,he brought the ndombolo partition from station japana but pitshou santiago who was there before him claims its his partition
when wenge musica retun to kinshasa,he stays in europe and is a guest in albums like ultimatum or kester's succes fou
as wenge split, and the newly born wenge bcbg arrives in europe he participates to first moments of album titanic's recording and is involved in the creation of generique once again coming with an old partition from station japana but he does not remain with them
at the same time, werrason who just co-founded wenge musica maison mere with didier masela and adolphe dominguez wants to get him into the group and tasks his cousin kija brown to convince japonais to come back to kinshasa and in early 1998 japonais returns to kin and becomes the group's artistic director and main soloist
he participates in all maison mere's big events until 2004 when he joins bill clinton, ferre jdt and co in les marquis de maison mere
but one year after the group split and he keeps doing various session work in europe including with wenge maison mere in album temp present
he release a "world music" album transe en danse in 2008 and returns to maison mere in 2012 2013 and leaves again as he prepares a second album

RAMAZANI ASSANI FULUTUNI "ramazani mupenzi"

ramazani was born in  70's grows in kisangani, were he grows and starts as a singer in church and later learns guitar thanks to a guy called moreno
from then he will start combining both in street groups like anti bal, eclair musica.... and arrives in kinshasa in 1990
in 1991 he starts playing with singer gatho beevans and at the same time he learns at studio bobongo with the likes of al nzimbi and zola tempo
two years later he joins choc stars and in 1996 he will first be a session artist with reddy amisi then become a member of papa wemba's nouvelle ecriture and viva la musica
in 2000 he leaves viva la musica along with bendoson and christian the keyboard player to form a group but it does not last long and all three end up joining quartier latin(bendo doing less than a week though) and from the three he is the one who remains the longest in the group and even gets a song "juif noir" in the group album affaire d'etat
in 2004 he decides to remain in europe and becomes a session artist for various musicians of various countries and will have a short experience with fofo le collegien, deo brando and co in the group les chics men

SERGE ALIMASI MOVILI MAZAMI "celeo scram"

serge was born on 3rd of april in 1978 grows in kinshasa in bandal and will have his first contact with music as a dancer in family parties and some funerals in his neighborhood, from there will come his musical nickname "celeo" as he loves dancing to zaiko's sebenes and particularly one animation "cele ohhhh...." and his sisters will start calling him like that to joke on him
he starts street music with makeshift instruments with his friend flamme kapaya in the group batsenge, and shortly later he will be in didi kalombo's fraternité musica with the likes of zing kapaya, fiston mamale....and is like a back-up atalaku for pekoce animation(who will later join big stars)
most of the group will end in duc herode's golden tchatcho, but in the same period celeo is tested at a wenge musica 4X4 looking for a guy to replace suspended tutu caludji, the very same day ferre chair de poule is tested
he impresses all the administrators who tell him to see secretary mbuta kiss kisolokele and give personal information but things do not work out well with mbuta kiss
so he goes back to golden tchatcho and does some session work with comedians mbuta likasu and ngadiadia ngadios
when wenge musica 4X4 split, adolphe dominguez goes to get him and he convinces adolphe to take with him his friend flamme kapaya aswell
celeo becomes the second atalaku of wenge musica maison mere next to bill clinton kalonji, who is given far more time, but celeo manages to be extremely efficient whenever he is given some space
he will get in 2002 a massive boost of popularity with the animation "koyimbi ko" and when in 2004 some musicians leave to create les marquis, celeo remains with werrason and has a much bigger role in the group to extent that he is even seen as a possible new chef d'orchestre to replace ferré
in 2007,after 10 years in the group and feeling that his president wants to get rid of him,he announces he has left the group after being abandoned on purpose by the group in europe and his passport gone with the group in kinshasa
he records with help of his friends seguin mignon, flamme kapaya, fally ipupa, kabose bulembi and co his first album "nzoto na nzoto" which gets a good reception and even ends up nominee in albums of the year in 2008
Three years after he releases second album "yes we can" which despite good quality is far less promoted so the impact is different from first album
celeo announces for the end of this year his third album" ici c'est paris" where he aims to bounce back

TUTU YOMBO LUMBU " tutu caludji le number one"

tutu was born in kinshasa on 3rd of april in 1974 and grew up listening to viva la musica of papa wemba who became his idol and role model
like many kids,he will start singing at church in early 80's then in street groups in early 1990's,starting with promise musica  with the likes of polystar, mboshi lipassa, theo mbala...aswell as staff london
in 1993,manda chante leaves wenge musica  and as wenge looks for a replacement, tutu appoints for a test along with several other singers including aimelia lias and both of them impress a lot,but they only need one guy
tutu then reveals them he can also do animation, and that is how both are kept in the group
it is the start of a new style of animation, which is close to singing, unlike the previous style which consisted more in shouting
therefore,he will complement very well the other wenge musica atalaku roberto ekokota and in the second half of the 1990's tutu comes with an animtion which wwill single-handedly cause  a revolution in congolese music
this animation is ndombolo and until today its the name people use to refer to congolese music, which shows how big was the impact of that animation
before that, tutu will shine in album pentagone in 1996 and convince his father who was a bank director to let him do his career instead of finishing university to have a "more prestigious job"
tutu follows jb mpiana, alain makaba and blaise bula when wenge musica split and becomes a more important member than "just an atalaku"as he is "the ministry of interior,in charge of the anti-terrorist operations" in the "governement of wenge bcbg"
he will release his first song in album internet in 2001,tshico londonien, were he samples a vocal of his idol papa wemba and declines for the first time an approach to join quartier latin
three years latin he has no song on album anti terro and rejects a second approach and is appointed bcbg's new chef d'orchestre
he releases a second song in group album kipe ya yo two years later but most of the fellow "chiefs" of the group do not appreciate his evergrowing influence and as to prove jb their love they think it would be good to unsettle tutu who for them think he is becoming a second jb
that aside,he has strong contacts with businessman didi kinuani who is a known rival of jb and it completely nails it for him in bcbg
tutu gets a contract trial with skol and recruits musicians after failing to convince some bcbg musicians to follow him
he then performs at fikin in summer of 2007 with young musicians like milito, robinio mundibu....and starts recording a solo album
he will release album paris match in 2010 but album has serious promotion issues and album is not too succesful despite its good quality
he disappears from tv for years because of personal problems makes a short appearence singing at a church which makes people think he has gone into religious music
but in reality he takes time to deal with personal issues and learns theology as his faith helped him a lot to overcome his difficulties
in september 2015 he makes an unexpected return into "popular music" and starts playing some sunday concerts but is yet to talk about a project of an album

Very informative. Cheers Archos - Ordinateur

Tutu's album wasn't that good of an album, your his friend that's why you say it's good.

The issue I saw with that album is that Tutu's singing/voice was a shell of its former self. Even the Guantanamo on Kipe Ya Yo was much strong the version on his album. The recent Paris mini-concert however indicates he's still in good form and ready for a big comeback.

about celeo i forgot to add that in the mid 1990's he tried to join kibinda nkoy but it did not happen because he was rejected due to rivalry between bandal and kintambo(fally will be accepted more easily because he had moved for some time to kintambo) and also he was among the musicians recruited in kin to form victoria dream team dream band before kester arrived, but he did not last more than a day or two(just for the record a guy like atele of f victeam group was also there and moved as quick as him for talent latent and later empire bakuba and afrisa of tabu ley)

SERGE NSIMBA LUFUANKENDA "ALPATCHINO BULANTULU LE CAPITAINE DE L'EQUIPE"

serge aka alpatchino was born in kinshasa on 20th of january in 1974,and had his first contact with music in a church were he was the lead singer of junior section of the choir
then in the late 1980's he joins street group litonge bouge in his neighborhood of matonge
in 1992 he joins the street group promise musica where he will be a singer following the footsteps of his role model reddy amisi, alongside mboshi lipasa, tutu caludji, theo mbala, alino biongo(now known as alino vimba in zaiko)
with his group he sometimes perform before big groups like wenge musica, quartier latin and so on arrive on stage and from then he becomes a pire petit of wenge musica's main men jb and werra who sometimes even invite him to sing at wenge's public la samba rehearsals
around 1995 he joins music section of comedy group chic choc loyenge of ngadiadia ngadios and shines, meanwhile he sometimes rehearses privately with werrason
almost 4 years later, he joins viva la musica along with his chic choc colleague tocha bass and starts a big revolution in viva la musica,as for the first time in viva(nouvelle ecriture) there will be a guy whose job is to make people dance, whereas in the past any of the singers were doing animation or even sometimes it was collective animation
but before that in 1998,he releases a solo album offensive generalisee featuring the likes of mboshi lipasa, celeo, babia chokoro...which gets a good reception
he will quickly impress in nouvelle ecriture with his singing and animation skills aswell as his natural charisma and will be a pivotal member in the groups first olympia and zenith and in papa wemba's solo album fula ngenge
when bendoson leaves,he gets a bigger role as he becomes "le capitaine de l'équipe"
in album kolo histoire he will have a vocal in the song" maria remix" which will remain arguably one of his most popular vocals
in album somo trop he will have one song "esprit ya sika" and will try his best to make the group stick together while papa wemba is in europe dealing with "ngulu affair"
in 2007 he decides to leave the group and start solo career and starts working on second solo album chifre 7 contre mur but quickly he will suffer what will be diagnosed as renal failure
in 2008 its an alpatchino who has lost a lot of weight we get to see on tv and he will soon be sent to emergency after the situation worsens
a slight improvement brings hope to fans and friends but unfortunately it gets worse again in february of 2009 and alpatchino passes away on morning of 16th of february and it leads to rumours that papa wemba got him killed because of his relationship with dancer julie mulanga which also was a wemba favorite
papa wemba avoids coming to his funerals  because of that

FREDERIC MWANZA BAMPIKA "CHAMPION ESTHETIQUE"

frederic was born in 1973 grows in lemba and starts music in a traditional group playing mbonda at a young age,and when he enters adolescence he will start learning drums at church and later in street group lemba musica of boguys bompema, alongside the likes of sweet elesse later in victoria eleison, binda bass later in quartier latin...
he is spotted by dakumuda and joins laviniora esthetique where he gets nicknamed" bampika esthetique" and plays in the group until mid 1990's then goes for a test in wenge musica as he aims for more recognition and fame and that day coincides with another drummer being tested
that drummer is seguin mignon and seguin wins as he has impressed all the group leaders unlike esthetique who was backed only by didier masela
he then goes to quartier latin where there is a place up for grabs as kaps kapangala remained in europe and with the growing group popularity koffi wants two drummers,he will then be accepted to play along with coco tchomba in album ultimatum
he participates also in koffi's solo album loi and even dances in some clips and when some musicians leave to create quartier latin academia champion remains in quartier latin and even becomes the group's chef d'orchestre, the group's number two as suggest his song on group album force de frappe and will shine at the group's concert at bercy
one year later he participates in koffi's solo album effrakata but does not appreciate the fact the young cambodge who just came to the group gets more songs and very important songs to play
but that decision also hides a personal problem with his boss about a girl who preferred him to his boss,he decides to live and join the rival wenge bcbg where he will be nicknamed "superchampion" but he will not last long as he does not fit well into the group
he tries to join zaiko langa langa but things do not work out well,he will then be in viva tendances of papa wemba in the mid 2000's and mainly do session work until today where he has started a solo career

Aah Alpatchino R.I.P.
I loved when he animated in Kikongo, espacially in the album Fula Ngenge and Bakala Dia Kuba and the song Cafe and his vocal in Maria "remix"where wonderfull. "Kala ba nkoko balaka na mungwa, ya biso bana ekoma falangwa whohoho. Toyankanana boye teee....." That were vocals with a message, not vocals with only names which we are seeying today.

Did Mamale Tupac leave Quartier Latin for similair reasons, like Champion Djikapela? or was that about the money that he was complaining?
Stoumi!!!! Esthetique!!!! I wonder if there will be a drummer who can reach within 10 years Champion Djikapela's popularity in Africa.

yeah for money he almost followed the academia guys, but also for a woman
from what i know after a concert,he was going in his car with his girlfriend(or should i say one of his girlfriends since most musicians have many) and that she was so beautiful that koffi say she must come with him instead, and the woman was with a friend, both ended up at koffi's house and mamale got pissed about that

Depitsho left because he wasn't happy that collectif (Mamale, Champion, Nseka& Felly Tyson) suspended him instead of Koffi himself, after coming late during a concert in Switserland.

why would mamale, Tyson and Passe Kosse suspend him they weren't the chiefs back then they didn't even have the authority to, champion I can understand since he was the chef and koffi allowed this to happen and didn't do nothing wow

Then two years later,he joins wenge musica maison mere were he first rotates with japonais maladi on lead and rhythm but looks still a bit raw for the big stage
but he will need just few months to massively improve and completely reaches another dimension in 2001 with album kibuisa mpimpa and becomes the group's artistic director and arranger
from then he becomes a role model to many soloists who try to play his way
in 2007 he leaves as he feels undervalued by his boss who still did not fulfill his promise of years ago to buy him a house
he releases a mini album surprise ebebaka mabe, then participates in a project with cinema director faustin linyekula which gets him involves in musical comedies and concerts in france and several francophone countries
he releases an album banningsville in which he mixes his traditional inspiration,a bit of sebene and foreign influence

to be continued...
what year was felly tyson born..or how old is he now?

Very informative. Cheers Archos - Ordinateur

Tutu's album wasn't that good of an album, your his friend that's why you say it's good.

The issue I saw with that album is that Tutu's singing/voice was a shell of its former self. Even the Guantanamo on Kipe Ya Yo was much strong the version on his album. The recent Paris mini-concert however indicates he's still in good form and ready for a big comeback.
Tutu can only do well as atalaku. Singing is his second hobby.

ERIC ELONDO MILAMBO AKA GESAC TSHIPOYI TGV

Eric was born in 1980 and started music at 8 as dancer in traditional groups and singing at church with his dad theo, and  later in the 90's much against his father's will despite his own passion for music, eric will start playing in street groups first as a dancer then totally by fortune will start being atalaku
in fact, one day the group's atalaku misses out and  the leader  asks him to replace the guy as he spotted some talent in him,as he often spent time playing shaker and trying to replicate djouna mumbafu's animations
and from that day,he becomes the group's main atalaku and starts being approached by other groups,he will join simba esthetique along with the likes of chai ngenge then later info musica
in 1997,when manda chante goes solo eric is one of the atalakus tested but his father blocks the move and sends him to boarding school but he is fired within a month for lack of discipline and goes back to kin to rejoin info musica as his"vieux" joss diena the leader of the group calls him back but he decides to stop class as now he is more decided than ever to become a star like his idol djouna mumbafu
in 1999 90 per cent of info musica end up joining felix wazekwa's recently born cultura pays vie and eric is the last to join as joss invites him to tests
he will then be given nickname gesac by joss(gesac was apparently the name of a long bus) alluding to his height and participate in album sponsor in 2000,and he will blossom in 2001 with animation "male mambwa" created by comedian lady esobe
gesac is quickly compared to bill clinton kalongi of wenge maison mere as both have a lot of similarities and will become a pivotal member of cultura
in 2004 as cultura is on the rise, wazekwa wants to let gesac partly live in europe(along with joss and nasdaq) to make it easier financially as the group is meant to have several europe tours, but one month later gesac decides on his own to returnas he struggles to cope with language and weather
one year later, tensions start to appear as people around wazekwa report to him how gesac is getting serious approach from koffi olomide despite maisha park peace reunions and from then he started being treated differently,to the extent that he is even left in kinshasa sometimes for concerts in other congolese cities which gesac obviously sees as an insult as he considers himself the guy who made wazekwa become a star
in beginning of 2007,he is again left in kin and goes to see koffi's staff and they make a plan,he'd pretend to join another group and shortly after move on to join another group
he goes to braza to join extra musica as a smokescreen, despite getting a great reception, but also had already started rehearsing and attending quartier latin concerts as an alleged guest in the name of maisha park's peace
as koffi and wazekwa fall out again, gesac is used to attract other musicians of cultura, with a good amound of money and a 3 years contract along with a brand new opel tigra for his birthda
he will start brightly in quartier with animation "c'est le moment" getting a great reception and will participate in koffi's solo album and in maxi single la chicotte a papa and will even join the singers lineup in a couple of concerts abroad as koffi takes a limited team,he will perform for few minutes at zenith in 2007 as he arrives later than the group but will miss out on "cindy's" zenith of 2009 which pisses him off
he starts getting used less and less and unsettled with other atalakus doing his own animation and few months after, in 2010 when he hears joss has started studio for a solo album he decides to follow him and participates in album vitrine
a couple of years after, there are little tensions between him and joss as gesac can not stand anymore joss' "excessive professionalism as joss is very strict on hour,if you arrive one minute later you do not rehearse while gesac wants to be arriving hours later as he sees himself as the second leader whereas it was clearly decided that joss was the only leader and gesac and co formerly of cultura there as simple partners

BABY MBY NDOMBE AKA BABY NDOMBE DE WATERLOO

baby ndombe was born on 3rd of march in 1974 and is obviously the children of rumba legend pepe ndombe opetum and will have his first contact with music in 1981 at a viva la musica anniversary held at bar owned by his father as he shows his dancing skills
Then like most musicians he'll start in church, with choir" bilenge ya muinda"along with his elder brother didier and few years later he'll create street group vastoria esthetique with his brother and later join temple les gaulois and will learn to play almost all guitars especially bass but also learn a bit of drumming
but unfortunately for him,his dad is against him becoming a musician so he often is sent out of home and has to do some street jobs to survive and then as he finishes high school he is once again tempted to go further in music as he plans to join either quartier latin or nouvelle ecriture next to one of his role models reddy amisi
but it does not happen and he starts university in order to become a doctor then due to a long strike switches to another university to study economics and when wenge musica split his elder brother didier convinces him to go and join the camp of werrason and he suceeds at tests and he will very quickly become one of the main members of the group and participate at the group's biggest events like palais des sports or bercy but will be seen as the guy who created a rebellion of musicians in 2001 prior to werra's kibuisa mpimpa release
nevertheless,he will get one song mama mabe in the group's album a la queue leu leu and in 2004 one week before the group's UK tour he is suspended in a controversial context
first version says he is suspended for  fighting against the bodyguard of one of his colleagues who was bullying another of his colleagues, another version says he went to see a sorcerer to become more powerful and is given the condition to sleep with his president's wife and this version is unfortunately the one which is spread the most
and despite interventions from his dad, lutumba simaro and even king kester emeneya he'll be denied a return to the group's activities and will leave
he will be officially approached by koffi olomide and his staff to join quartier latin but will refuse and one donor of wenge bcbg will propose money so that he joins the group but he refuses which actually pleases jb who provides him some financial help to start his album,he will start programming and recording
tour de babel will be released in 2006 and baby is currently working on second album

PITSHOU LISIMO IKOMBI AKA GENTAMICINE

pitshou was born in 1978 and started music aged 9 as a dancer is folkloric group bana odeon and at church three years later along with his mother
when he gets into adolescence he discovers himself another talent than singing and dancing as he will start to do animation in groups like  staff london, both la geneva and royaume lifaki along with his friend didier kalonji"bill"  and follow the footsteps of his models djouna mumbafu, doudou adoula and roberto ekokota but his dad lisimo liongemba who is a journalist on national tv is strongly against him doing music and wants him to finish his classes of mechanics
in 1998 he will participate in talent latents album along with fally ipupa, atele kunianga, pitshou luzolo, eric tutsi and co and will be introduced to the newly born wenge maison mere and impresses but leader werrason prefers to get a tenorist atalaku to complement bill instead of having another guy who looks up to djouna mumbafu
he will be taken to quartier latin towards the end of the year but he is not very interested so he does not give his best,he'd prefer to join a wenge,he is taken to zaiko langa langa but the test does not happen and will join bozi boziana's anti choc until 1999 and participate on album position eyebani
when he hears that one of his role models roberto ekokota has remained in europe and a place is up for grabs he will be tested in wenge bcbg and will impress everyone including producer monsieur simon( who tells jb he will pay himself gentamicine's ticket if needed for the zenith and olympia concerts) with animation "kolele nsiama"given to him by former choc stars and bana odeon atalaku ngabudiela
he then shares atalaku section with tutu caludji and later kilimandjaro  and becomes the number 1 atalaku when tutu decides to go back to singers lineup and be considered as a singer who can help out on animation and feels genta  is now ready  to have such responsability
during his first years in bcbg genta will struggle to get proper recognition as he is overshadowed by charismatic calUdji and the years of 2004 and 2005 will mark a massive change in his career as he shines in arguably one of the best ever ad generiques bongolowayi and will be rewarded with what was then his first house by one of bcbg's donors but he decides to offer that house straight away to his family and leave the modest conditions they previously were leaving in
and from then on,he will become one of the most if not the most productive in term of succesful animation every year and will become an important member of wenge bcbg, being given the unnoficial vice-president role which is almost like a second chef d'orchestre and will be in charge of recruiting musicians, prospecting for musicians and help them settle in the group which is a sign of the leader's trust towards him
he will be rewarded again with an house in 2009 as he shows strong determination to perform on stage at a private concert in brazzaville despite being extremely sick and barely standing on his feet
and he will become also an automatic song author in any group albums, starting from lekasopo in anti terro, exces d'amour in quel est ton probleme, ezala zala in soyons serieux and will release one song in the upcoming balle de match
in 2014 he almost left the group on donor's demand to follow his friend chai ngenge, and will introduce chai to a bar he could rent for rehearsals but will return to bcbg within just two days as he is told by his mother not to  do that mistake of leaving as he already did big things for himself and for the family while being a group member
in 2015 he reject an approach from quartier latin aswell and is once again rewarded for his loyalty and hard work
in early 2016 he is proposed to do a solo album by his leader jb mpiana but he prefers to  wait for another year at least

Hi Archos,
What does chef 'd'orchestre' mean? I speak passable French which enables me to translate it literaly as 'cheaf of an orchestra' .But when I loked up the meaning of the word, apparently it was attributed to music arrangers of europian orchrestas! So I wish to know the meaning of the world in congolese music context. I will be delighted!
Regards,
Bepari.

he is the boss favorite, the most important person in the group except of the boss himself, in some groups like bcbg he is even allowed to sign some contracts, there are two profiles of chef d'orchestre, the type of chefs who basically got it because they are the star of the group, and the second type is those who have true leadership skills even though sometimes it happens to have a chef who has both stardom and leadership
i hope i helped you, they are in charge of doing transition between the boss and the group so its hard for a musician who is out of favour with the chef to remain longterm in the group

Mr Grand Archos, i think i would go further and explain the other artistic roles in a group using the Congolese Music Context i.e. Atalaku, Artistic director, cheftaine, etc . That is if Bepari is interested.
Title: Re: THE NDOMBOLO TRENDSETTERS
Post by: archos on May 17, 2016, 17:59
artistic director like chef d'orchestre can be given depending only on importance in boss' eyes, but also of musical knowledge, artistic directors have a role on picking songs at concerts, making sure rehearsals are efficient by teaching songs well to members
so there  are two groups aswell of artistic directors some are just given that role just because they are among the longest serving and the other ones are heavily involved in rehearsals, concerts and studio, most of the artistic directors also have arranger skills
atalaku is pretty simple, its the guys in charge of the dancing parts when singers and dancers dance
cheftaine of the female dancers is  a bit similar to chef d'orchestre role between dancers, a charismatic person who can have authority on the rest, make sure they work properly, make sure they buy clothes for concerts( the uniforms the female dancers wear are picked by the boss and the cheftaine)make sure there is discipline within them, solve conflicts....
in many groups female dancers have strong rivalry between themselves because all or most of them are among the boss' sidekicks or with donors so it ends up in a lot of things including spiritual attacks

SAMUEL TSHINTU LOKANGA " SAM TSHINTU CHEGUEVARA"

sam was born in 1968 and like most musicians started to sing in church with his parents
then in 1980's when he reaches high school he will start music outside church,in the groups of his schools starting with athenee de la victoire where he will be classmate with jb mpiana then later in itc ngaliema where he gets his high school diploma with jb and adolphe
in itc ngaliema, sam will participate in the school's group itc flash until he reaches university
and when he starts university,he creates with friends irania musica and later flash musica  with the likes of  suzuki luzubu, lebou kabuya, modogo abarambwa, willy bula, the current chef d'orchestre of quartier latin rocky blanchard...the group will be invited by jb mpiana at funerals of wenge musica's mi-soloist of then blaise kombo and many of them will caught the eye of koffi lomide who was around
and most of the group will join the new formula of quartier latin, sam hesitates to join as he plans to finish university and work and have music as a hobby and he will be convinced to join quartier latin  by modogo and suzuki and 1993
his natural charisma will be much appreciated by koffi who will even nickname him "president"and he has a song 'shambuyi"(which means parent of twins in tshiluba) in quartier latin's second group album magie which gets a great reception
two years later in the next group album he gets another song miss nicole where he changes his way of singing compared to shambuyi and it also gets a good reception
he will then be part of the quartier latin which " re-opens" the way for olympia and zenith de paris in 1998 even though he does not release a song in group album droit de veto
shortly after that tour,he will leave quartier latin along with other guys  each of them having their reasons
in 1999,its the official birth of quartier latin academia with sam, modogo, bouro mpela, mboshi lipasa, somono dolce, lebou kabuya, pathy bass with sam as the president of the group and they record album sanction with french label secteur A
they will have a massive success with this album and have euro-african tour then record second album viagra in 2001 where  the song colation alluding to a graduation party gets a very positive reception
like all groups of that period they will also suffer from the "ngulu affair" and will record in difficult conditions 4 coins kandala which marks the end of the group
sam then refuses to return to quartier latin and plans to record a solo album which he will first name droit d'asile then sacrifices(alluding to how he had to sacrifice himself to fund album  on his own) and in the same year he will be an unexpected guest at quartier latin's anniversary
after that he will participate in recording of album black bazar which a musical vesion of a book written by author alain mabanckou along with modogo,cnn...
and after that album he will announce album eyoma which is yet to be reelased

PATRICK BONGO AKA ECLIPSE MOSOSO

patrick bongo was born in 1982 and is from a family of artists with his mother being a traditional musician, his oncle bongo wende a famous guitarist and another of his uncles being a drummer in tabuley's afrisa
during holidays he will be following his mother at concerts of the traditional group she was in and when back in kinshasa he will have desire to start music aswell but his parents will tell him they do not accept until he graduates from high school which is what happen
they allow him to start music in various small groups of his area of limete as a singer  and then become an atalaku following footsteps of  tutu caludji,he will be spotted by djouna mumbafu and participates in album tonnere de brest
he will learn a lot from this experience but decides to look for another group as djouna is too often abroad,he will then attend a test in wazekwa's cultura to replace atalaku papy louange who remained in europe and he will be the one who impresses the most among the 30 atalakus tested, his new nickname will come out of nowhere during his chat with wazekwa to get information about him so he can be registered as a member of the group
in fact,he will say he comes from mososo,a small quarter within the area of limete, his test  coincides with the day of solar eclipse and wazekwa links this phenomenon with how patrick did impros during half an hour without ever stopping unlike other ones
from then he is then called eclipse mososo and  will be the official replacement of louange next to  gesac tshipoyi
he will participate in cultura's albums and europe tours and in 2007 when wazekwa and koffi olomide fall out again he is the first to be contacted but he rejects the move and informs his leader about what is going on
in the same time wazekwa who sees in him a very professional guy despite his age gives him responsability to  recruit and train  new atalakus so that they can add a different flavor in their albums next to the two starting atalakus,he then forms what he call "gouvernement mososo" in other terms his understudies which will have atalakus like bercy muana, moise chine, anti rebelle,sabalo...
in 2009 he shines when cultura performs at olympia and wazekwa rewards him with a brand new mercedes coupe but he'll destroy that car as he did not admit  he did not know how to drive or he could have been given something else a gift and he keeps showing he has entered the category of the best atalakus in the country
he gets even closer to wazekwa in 2011 when wazekwa  spends most of the year in france  as he suffers from a strong aplasia and also a mystic attack, eclipse will use the money he gets from donors to pay musicians in wazekwa's absence and will fund trips to europe himself to go to hospital and pray with wazekwa and return by the week end to perform with cultura in his absence and when wazekwa  reaches top fitness again and goes back to kinshasa he names eclipse the vice chef d'orchestre in charge of discipline as he is very moved by what eclipse did in that very difficult year
in 2013  when the chef pitshou concorde goes to europe for private reasons, eclipse is meant to be handed the main role but he refuses because he does not feel ready for the role but shortly later, the group members decide to vote and most of them pick him as they see in him the perfect fit and he accepts to take the role until today but as a sign of humility he decides that he would not release a song until the singers all have their chance to add a song (in cultura instead of  group and solo albums, group members share 4-5 songs between them and wazekwa the rest)and will continue to prove his worth as a top atalaku with fimbu
in 2016 they start recording of a new album and wazekwa wants him to have two songs as the chef d'orchestre which he politely declines to allow another singer who was yet to have his chance
he reveals in an interview that his song with be a sebene song because he does not see why an atalaku would focus on  rumba which is for singers and that he was offered possibility to record an album but he prefers to go step by step by first releasing songs in the group

Eclipse is the Image of what a group member should be, I wonder if Wenge Musica had guys like him as a chef instead of Papy Kakol, it is good to see that in Cultura year in and year put there are very sincere guys, that really wants the goos of the Group and doesn't distract himself, the other guys who has been trained with Bercy in atalaku sectuon, what they are doing in terms of music?

That was a really good thing for Eclipse to do, to pay the musicians out of his own pocket and to fly to Paris with his own money to see his boss week after week. Wazekwa should just let Eclipse have a maxi-single instead of a song on an album. And that's surprising how he didn't know how to drive, like how did he get around all those years.

thinking about it eclipse's brilliant behaviour in 2011 almost saved cultura, many of the guys started losing it after one month without the boss and started to contact maison mere and co to join as they heard wazekwa was going to stay for almost the whole year abroad
and he is duly getting the reward for his big heart today with his 20 per cent  on group's contrats, that's how a chef d'orchestre should be

JEAN BAPTISTE BIANKODILA AKA AIMELIA LIAS

Jean baptiste was born in 1972 and grew up in matete where he started like almost every artist in church then in small street groups where he is nicknamed aimelia by one of his friends, and at some point as his parents have some financial struggle he starts to do jobs like selling jewels in a market to survive but continue to sing and it even helps him to attract customers
in 1993 when manda chante lives  wenge musica 4X4 aimelia is introduced to jb mpiana by his friend percy tumba and he will live with jb to learn songs for tests and when they arrive there is another  tenorist tutu caludji who also impressed  but they want to keep only one, aimelia has the advantage of jb's full support(and like we all know caludji will use his secret weapon whch is animation to remain in the group)
he will participate in album les anges adorables with his vocal in werrason's sourire des vendeurs which will get a lot of praise
slowly but surely he becomes an important member of the group and will almost get a song on group album pentagone but werrason tells him he will get it in the next group album(which was meant to be a good part of what titanic of bcbg appeared to be)
he will have an important role in chorus of jb mpiana's album feux de l'amour and when the group split in december 1997 and follows jb as he is grateful for how jb contributed a lot for him in the group
he will then get the song he was promised as in wenge bcbg's first album titanic as he releases liberation and not too long after album he will have a stellar performance in jb's zenith concert and becomes even more popular with fans and this will force his way out of the group because of his rebel attitude
in fact,to "punish" him for his attitude the group makes sure they go to have sessions of jb's th without informing him and koffi olomide who is informed  of the tension tries to attract aimelia with big money but he refuses and he decides to leave bcbg and start working on a solo album as he already had songs in prevision of next group album and he will record  constat which was a good album with the likes of alain makaba  but which suffered from promotion, while he is shooting clips he receives call from didi kinuani to join wenge maison mere but he is first reluctant as despite leaving bcbg he still loves the group and sees joining maison mere as treason and there is even jb who is trying to get him back,he will miss out on a meeting he was supposed to have with jb and will be convinced to join as he is granted a salary directly  by didi kinuani and werrason will be very delighted of his arrival as he tells aimelia "your performance at zenith got me amazed" and feels it will weaken his rival of then jb,aimelia is then presented at bercy concert, will participate in kibuisa mpimpa where he will share with ferre some vocals of lacoste who was gone plus his own creation and he will return to live in kinshasa with the group
he will release his first song in maison mere "effet placebo" in the group's album a la queue leu leu and when musicians leave to create les marquis aimelia will become  the man in charge of  discipline and a candidate to become chef d'orchestre but as time goes on werra plans a clearout of the generation of les marquis to start with new guys who can be better controlled and experienced guys like him start to be unsettled so they can leave,he will go to europe with the group's permission for an issue with one of his children but a story will be created that he also went to prepare an album,he will tour once with the group in europe and  unexpectedly return in kin with the group he ends up living maison mere  in 2007 and records another solo album race de vainqueurs which like the previous one lacks promotion
at some point in the years after he will take a break from music to work as a delivery man and will return in 2014 with project of another album and will start to have concerts with former members of clan wenge groups until it now starts to become like a proper group where he is the leader with who he is recording his album

JOCELYN DIENAYAMI LUKIBANZA AKA JOSS DIENA LE FORMIDABLE

jocelyn was born in 1974 from a family of artists with his parents being musicians at church in the area of ndjili, and he will follow them to sing at church while he goes to school,he will start singing in street groups in 1993 and later on form with friends the group info musica where he will be the leader, lead singer and will help out on animation but will also sometimes play drums, bass and rhythm guitar and even solo as he learned all in church and gets authorization from his parents to become a full time musician when he gets his diploma in electricity and mechanics
in 1999 him and many members end up joining the newly born cultura, joss  brings with him two generiques where he did most animation on and those two generiques will be used in album signature, ofcourse with improvement, and this already pleases wazekwa who sees in him a hard worker
in his first days in cultura joss is nicknamed "little manda chante" as he sings like him but wazekwa tells him to change the way he sings so he can have his own identity
he will straight away become an important member of the group and will participate on all tours and will first shine in album yo nani in the song kito epula and wazekwa gives him nickname tony blair as he sees in him a similar profile to alain mpela  who had turned chef d'orchestre role into "chef du gouvernement" as he dances very well, sings very well and has  a strong natural charisma
he will again shines few times later in the song "texto" with his vocal "mokili yango liboma" which will be very appreciated by fans from various groups
but on lifestyle level he grows frustrated as wazekwa, still in his period of learning the "codes of leadership" in congolese music he is influenced to act like other leaders, blocking money for himself and other stuff
so joss feels he does not compete well enough with the likes of fally or ferre but in 2006 wazekwa humbles himself and starts to listen to joss but joss still holds strong hidden grudge
in 2007 when koffi olomide and wazekwa fallout again,he will surprise everybody by joining quartier latin
in fact,on tuesday night he is seen on tv attacking koffi and announcing they would be  going to france to play at olympia and record album que demande le peuple where he would get a song then on wednesday he does an interview at koffi's house to announce he has joined quartier latin
on wednesday while driving to one of wazekwa's houses he uses for private rehearsals he suddenly changes his path heading towards koffi's house which leads to a fight between him  and the bodyguard wazekwa gave him as a chef d'orchestre and the bodyguard decides to get out of the car
this sudden departure is a huge blow for wazekwa who suspects koffi of having attracted him this fast also through  witchcraft to control him,and he suffers blood pressure issues for a good month and loses weight as he feels like he lost a part of him with joss gone
joss signs a 3 year contract worth 30000 dollars(10K each year) and shortly after his arrival becomes quartier latin's chef d'orchestre and participate in koffi's solo album and tour will quartier latin
in 2009 things will starts to turn sour for him as he is arrested as the chef d'orchestre of quartier latin because of koffi having ordered beating of a cameraman of  one of the biggest congolese tv's RTGA and koffi runs away from kin as he is sought-after and he will later be released from prison thanks to his wife  journalist lolo milolo  using some of her relationship to get him out of jail as he is unfairly arrested
koffi tells him to prepare songs for a group album and he comes up with songs and he tells koffi he has many songs already( since he learned the art of writing next to wazekwa) but koffi changes his mind and tells him to wait because he wants to promote cindy, and in the meantime he starts getting angry against joss as joss' wife lolo does interviews with the likes of wazekwa who are in conflict with him so even when koffi still allows a couple of singers to add songs on "la chicotte a papa" joss is stripped of opportunity and left behind on europe tour of zenith
also he will be informed by guys next to koffi that koffi says in private he'll completely ignore those musicians from wazekwa's group and this is what happens in 2010 when he sometimes even does not makes the list in kin's concert and hears later from colleagues that they performed here and there
the ultimate humiliation for him will be cindy taking the mic off him during a rehearsal and koffi shouting at him for replying,he goes back home in tears as this makes him regret having left wazekwa when he was on the verge of getting advantages he wanted
he then starts missing a couple of quartier latin rehearsals and his father tells him to  have courage to leave because there are enough signs that he is not welcome anymore and will help him recruit musicians to form a band
he will try to join wenge bcbg but  jb declines as he does not like taking proven musicians from other bands but gives him some money which he will use to record a song with meje30 announcing his album and in 2011 vitrine will be released with arrival of hono kapanga and gesac who also were given bad treatment in quartier latin, vitrine will be a quality album but he lacks funds to handle promotion  on long term and does not want to bother tshala muana and her husband claude mashala who already did a lot in funding album
in the years after he will often announce another album where he had plan to sing with two of his role models papa wemba and jb mpiana
he recently announced he will head to europe to do mixing of his album "plan b"

FIFI MWAMBA TSHIAMA AKA MAITRE FICARRE

fifi was born on 3rd of june in 1963 in the region of kasai and like most musicians started music in church as a singer and then later as a guitarist
then when him and his family moved to kinshasa he started playing in street groups then in the early 80's join groups like lipua lipua, litonge bouge and so on and at the same time continuing to study
when reaching university he studies at ISC school where he is classmates with noel ngiama werrason and develops strong friendship with him
he keeps playing in various groups and starting to do session work with artists and in 1987 he is called by werrason to make up for absence of a soloist in a makeshift lineup of him on lead, blaise kombo on mi-solo,djolina on rhythm, blanchard mosaka on mbonda and his elder brother on drums
but with the return of alain makaba there is no room for him to stay in the group at that moment as the group does not want back up for makaba
but thanks to his friend werra he'll still be rehearsing their songs and in 1991 when makaba goes to europe again  he is accepted as the group second soloist and will benefit from makaba's absence to earn himself a name and will be taken on europe tour then play in kalayi boeing which is obviously a great hit
from then on he will be switching from mi solo to solo with alain makaba and shine on songs like danico or masampu
in 1996 he will get allowed to release song djodjo ngonda in group album pentagone and song gets a great reception and in the meantime he will start rehearsing in private with his friend werra with the project of private werrason tours outside wenge musica as the leader of the groups all start to have personal ambitions and partly because of that he will play a very minor role when jb mpiana releases album feux de l'amour
nevertheless he'll surprisingly remain on jb's side when the group split as he is not only is a bit upset about werra's money issues but also like the other "minor members" he knows there is tensions but he is hopeful of the fact the group remains together and attends rehearsals after reunions thinking werra and co will come but he then realises he is already part of a newly born group and with a ready visa for europe so he ends up remaining with wenge bcbg and like in feux de l'amour he'll barely play as there are makaba and mbokaliya above who play most of the songs
thanks to makaba and mbokaliya leaving he plays a lot more in jb's th as he not only plays his parts but also has to interpret parts of mbokaliya gone to the rival maison mere
he then goes to play majority of songs of album internet where he gets his first song in wenge bcbg espoir de chicago and three years later decision on album anti terro and during that album when chef alain mpela leaves he is in contention with tutu caludji and seguin to become the new chef but his shy nature goes against him
nonetheless even if he is not  a chef he still has a lot of influence and when on next album he is meant to get his song as usual he tells jb he wont release this time as he prefers young guys releasing francis solution
he misses out on bcbg's return to europe after ban as he is serving an own ban as he decided to stay in europe to save his relationship of then as the woman forces him to remain or she leaves him
in 2010 he makes his return in europe list after his ban is over and will get another song homme d'affaires but unfortunately for him there is no space on cd so his song is released only on internet and he is given authorization to release a solo album and starts programming and even announces in one of his rare appearances on tv that his dream is to reunite wenge musica members on some songs but quickly he is caught by lack of funds and decides to put album on hold and adds a song on balle de match yet to be released

Ooh so was T.H. still not finished when Wenge BCBG returned to Kinshasa after that Europe tour of 1999? Or did they just modified some parts of Burkina's sebenes and change that Burkina Faso-animation in Souverain 1er ? just because Burkina decided to join Maison Mere.

Where were those modifing recordings done ? in Kinshasa or Paris (did the whole BCBG then return to Europe) ? and were the songs Leaurets 2000, Accapela & Education done in the same period? Because you can only hear Calugi, Mpela and Titina in the chorus

JULES FERDINAND NSIMBA MAKIESE KIBENGA AKA PROFESSEUR JULES KIBENS

Jules was born in 1966 in the region of congo central and is named nsimba as he has a twin sister and grew up in his native region having first contact with music at church with his mother who sings in the choir
as he follows his mother he first dreams to become a pastor one day then when reaching age of teen his passion for music grows as he aims to emulate dindo yogo and kester emeneya who are his role models
he decides to move on his own to kinshasa  and he will play in a group called LARMS where he will be spotted by jb mpiana and werrason of the wenge musica but he will first decline their approach to join them as at that time wenge still is a rival at street group level, its in this group that he will given nickname of jules kibens which is actually the nickname of his older brother who is also called jules
he will discover himself a talent for writing songs which will help him fund his school fees as he learns arts as he starts selling songs to zaiko through beniko popolipo and another zaiko member,to choc stars members like carlyto and defao, he will have in 1988 a cassette of songs taken to koffi olomide and bozi...then he gets another approach to join wenge musica which he accepts as taste for a musical career is getting bigger but the move is blocked by his family who do not want to him to dump school for music so he is sent to brazzavill in early 90's while becoming a songwriter for his friends of wenge musica
he'll get  diplomas in brazzaville and continue into music joining the group of a guy called le grand mumboshi where he plays alongside the likes of roga roga, papy kakol and co then moved to the group of chairman and later on to folk stars where he'll already release several songs known way later and at the death of the leader he becomes the president of the group
in 1996 he starts coming back to kinshasa to start  working with jb mpiana on his feux de l'amour project so he gives his lessons as a teacher during the week in brazza then goes to jb's house in kin during the weekend to work but sometimes he remains in brazza for months as his job of teacher does not allow him to constantly move
outside his job of teacher he also owns a painting workshop which also him to earn some money as he receives a very low salary as a teacher and during the civil war in congo brazza his workshop will be  destroyed by  rockets which will be a huge blow for him as he is left with almost no money and one day he decides to go back to kinshasa with the little money he had left which is just enough for ticket and whereas he has family back in kin he prefers walking for a long distance until house of his friend jb  who welcomes him at home and does all he can to make him recover from that tough period,he proposes him to join bcbg as a back up singer but alain makaba is reluctant at the  beginning as he only knew kibens as a writer but not a singer but  kibens impresses him by reproducing dindo yogo's parts of one of the songs of alain's album pile ou face
he then joins officially the group and becomes the first member of what jb will called PPU joined few weeks later by the young heritier and rio de janeiro
kibens will then start to appear in bcbg concerts either one song at the beginning or sometimes singing the last song with heritier when most the of crowd and musicians are gone and one day he is so upset about it seeing as an humiliation that he almost fights with the sound engineer but he will soon be conforted about his importance in the group as blaise bula will soon leave wenge bcbg allowing him to enter first team
it is also important to notice that as an artist and designer kibens will do the covers of many albums and concert dvd starting from titanic
as a new first team member he of course makes it to the list when bcbg come to perform at zenith and olympia and as there are strong disagreement between jb and artistic director jb gives kibens responsability of the sound setup for zenith concert despite presence of vice-artist director titina in order to prepare him to that role with titina getting the main one and it is a big success as the concert remains forever one of the best in congolese music in terms of sound
he will get first opportunity to add a song on group album internet as he releases love airlines which get as fairly good reception but at the same time he almost falls out with jb as jb discovers he lends a couple of songs to maison mere through his cousin ferre
in 2004 when the group releases anti terro he is allowed to release a song but prefers to offer his song lekasopo to gentamicine lisimo as he already is satisfied by the money made from songs given to jb
two years later in kipe ya yo he releases voiture which is not a big hit but still appreciated for arrangement and that album marks the debut of a very huge impact on wenge bcbg's songs as from then zero song is released without at least a word from him
in that period there is a lot of contest from bcbg fans who want jb to get rid of long serving musicians who for them have offered their best already so should just leave the group and kibens is one of the most targeted members and is often threatened and even sometimes assaulted at home which leads to his friend and boss jb tasking of one his own bodyguards to be with kibens day in day out and despite all this kibens remains faithful as he thinks he owes jb a lot for how he bailed him when his life was down and also he is not interested at all in becoming a band leader again as he experienced how hard it was in terms of daily gesiton
he went on to release the song mbetu eleli but like with most of his songs and vocals credited to him he is criticized for "over complicating" his lyrics and rhythm which appeared to be destined only to people who went far at school and he vowed to change that a bit with his yet to be released song monsieur le quado(quado is a word used in lingala to talk about people who are there to correct pressure issues on tyres) with a more easily understandable text
in 2016 he is offered possibility to record a solo album but he prefers declining for the moment

BLAISE BONGONGO IYELI aka SEGUIN MIGNON

Blaise was born on 20th of may in 1976 in kinshasa and he started learning drums and mbonda aged 6 at church and will be quickly "punished" by not being allowed anymore to do anything related to music as his results start dropping
in early 90's when his mother who was a rich businessman passed away its a massive change in their life  and now he has to do music almost to survive as his family is busy sharing his mother's wealth ,so he'll start street music in the group LARMS and shortly later he'll move to house of his cousins  alain and bouro mpela and will perform in one of the groups of matete for a couple weeks then he'll be invited by a classmate into fraternite musica of bandal with didi kalombo as their leader and the likes of celeo, mamale and co
and in 1994 he'll create with his cousin bouro and other guys versace musica and the group will be soon integrated into kibinda nkoy where he'll develop strong friendship with the other drummer of the group papy "kakol"
as he sometimes moves along with his cousins bouro and alain to jb mpiana's house he starts having strong desire to join wenge and luckily for him in mid 1996 titina asks the leaders to recruit a back up drummers as the group is set to tour a lot and during a wenge musica concert in which blaise and co will perform before wenge come on stage, werrason and jb both repeat throughout their concert that they'll organize tests at the end,and when the moment comes three drummers are tested, blaise ,the almost already proven champion djikapela and another one swalé and  leaders unanimously pick blaise not even knowing for most of them he was alain mpela's cousin  who will be renamed first blaise mignon by jb then seguin mignon coming from werra
as soon as he is accepted he is trained by titina and at the same time is taken by werrason into private rehearsals as werra is starting to ponder a concept of individual tours within the group and he'll get a chance to travel with the group on a chad tour as titina is upset by something and refuses to go and as the group edges towards the split we all know he'll rejoin jb's side by following alain
he'll make the newly born wenge bcbg's first europe tour as drummer and mbonda player and will be given a big boost in 1999 as titina allows him to play several songs at the group's zenith concert  aswell as playing champion kapangala on titanic
at a personal level this tour will also be symbolic as he becomes father for the first time but the woman "credited" the birth to another man to get french papers much to his anger
one year later in jb mpiana's solo album th he plays mbonda and drums on mohamed kaniansy plus the unreleased generique
In 2001 he will play in an unexpected double drum setup at the group's bercy concert and have his first song pacte divin which is in reality an old song of the 80's written by(now) werrason's private songwriter chela lachina and brought in bcbg by alain mpela
and as titina leaves he becomes the first drummer and at first cannot handle at all this new fame as he is often involved in fights either with musicians of other groups or with fans of other groups and also becomes one of bcbg's main men to get into those tv beefs
in 2003 2004 he almost kills a man after beating him up over suspicion of him flirting with his girlfriend which leads to him almost being arrested only bailed by a jb promise to authorities that he'd take total care of that man's recovery and to punish seguin jb decides not to allow him a song on anti terro
in order to win back jb's trust he starts gossiping to jb about musicians planning to leave starting from his cousin alain mpela he catches having a chat with koffi olomide who promised him instruments to leave jb as he does not want to join quartier latin and rushes to inform jb
in 2005 his agressive side will strike again despite having been given role of chief of discipline in hope to give him more responsability and maturity as he has a fight with tutu caludji during a concert and jb also discovers that few weeks before he physically bullied a guy appointing for a test and while caludji is suspended for a month jb is first so angry that he orders mbuta kiss to write a letter to inform seguin he is out of the group but thanks to various interventions from donors and seguin literally kneeling in front of jb his case is transformed in a suspension of 1 month and scared by what happened seguin will calm down on fights and get the song sans permission on kipe ya yo which was offered to him by bompema and in 2007 2008 when tutu caludji leaves  chef d'orchestre role is up for grabs ,a vote is organised at group reunion and seguin is on par with ficarre but jb decides to pick seguin due to him being much more media-friendly and seems to have understood  the approach he had to have at one group chef
in his first years  he'll be appreciated as a chef as he is very close to most group members and takes some new members at his house to help them settle
he'll release his third song claude itoma in quel est ton probleme and  in 2011 his fourth song eloko ya pema in soyons serieux
as time goes on his influence in the group becomes bigger and most controversial,he is offered by jb a percentage on each bcbg concert and a private care business aswell as easy access to every of the biggest jb donors and starts to consider the group like his deciding to suspend or even fire musicians without jb knowing
in 2014 while at home after coming from church he suffers a stroke which will sideline him for months and he'll almost die during a night and in the morning after that,he receives visit from bozi boziana and his wife  and tells bozi he feels he'll be standing on his feet very quickly so he declines jb's proposal to send him to india and few days after he is released and will be eased into the group and on jb 's insistance play the whole echaufemment maxi single while him seguin wanted second drummer to play as he did not feel fit enough and while he returns fully to group's activities he is more and more contested by group mates who see in ficarre and gentamicine who took his role during his absence much more suitable for the role
and that tension in the group will lead to several departure and an open fallout with gentamicine which be only solved recently
seguin is set to have another song  in group album balle de match
