It doesn't sound as clear as Kibuisa Mpimpa and i would say Temoignage too
great album but it's annoying how you can't hear all the instruments on it

It was a rushed job. The snare drums sounded like tin cans way Al Nzimbi presumably tuned it. The bass and solo were muffled, good luck hearing the mbonda amd rhythm clearly on some songs. Usually Al Nzimbi and his French assistant were masters at getting arrangements right.

Acoustic quality was a joke compared to Group albums - Internet, Affaire d’etat, Victoria Eleison’s Nouvelle Odre & Somo Trop Disc 1

@Matebu

Why was there a rush to record the album? Usually JPS production and Werrason are timely with creation of quality  clips and albums.

Yeah, not quite sure about the exact reason for the rush. Maybe someone can fill in. I know Studio time costs started to really increase around that time, as the studio owners hated how their crews would crowd the studios and leave a big messes behind.

Towards the end of the video, Zacle Bababaswe points out that Celeo’s “J’en ai Assez” was recorded at 1-2:00am, 6th November 2002. So they must’ve been in the studio all night banging out songs relatively quickly. You can see how impatient Celeo and Héritier were getting correcting Werra’s singing.  I’m pretty sure Werra felt insulted being Corrcted on camera.

Usually other artists will dedicate a full day for a song

It's a habit of Congolese artists to record late in the night. In the day they will hangout with their friends and fans or sidekicks. I remember Werrason had arguments because of that with le duo d'enfer.

The book is "Breaking Rocks: Music, Ideology and Economic Collapse, from Paris to Kinshasa". Highly recommended to learn about the inner workings, but the book is so damn expensive to purchase.

It's really a wonder how albums are even complete with all the nonsense that goes on during the process.

When did the album come out? Late 2002 or early 2003?

December 19th, 2002. People were playing it a parties that holiday season

I guess another point is, that footage is from November and the album was completed, mastered, and CDs printed only about a month later.

Just some observations:

I'm actually surprised that Ferre Gola didn't collaborate with Heritier after their run with Masion Mere, they had amazing chemistry on Nostalgie! Did they not get along?

How come Heriter didn't get a song credited to him? Strangely enough, Serge Mabiala got credited a song even though he was slowly being phased out the group.

Heritier didn't get a song because he was not a "Mbiaka". They gave only opportunities to the musicians ans staff-members who were there already since 1997. Don't forget that it was his first tour and that alot of people didn't knew him.
