What would you classify Congolese music in regards to genre when looking at Apple Music, Spotify, Qobuz, Tidal or any streaming service? I feel like there is little to no exposure of our genre on these apps. I do see Zebuka, few Fally/Ferre tracks and others but not a lot.
Does it classify as Afrobeats? (I’ve been listening to Congolese prior to hearing the term).
So, I stumbled upon this French rap artist named Damso years ago because of Ferre promoting it. I’m curious I’ve noticed that many French rappers come from Congo. Is that typically what’s played?
Also there is a guy named Jungeli that seems to integrate Congolese styles into his songs.
Anyone have info on this project? I listened to it yesterday after finding it out by accident. Recording isn’t sooo good but not sure what they were going for here on this 6 song album. It’s on streaming services currently.
So I remember asking if there were advantages to Mabanga in Congolese music. Well I can see now the advantage. Kendrick Lamar released a song called “Euphoria” it mentioned a business in Canada. Then it immediately got flooded with new customers. I guess in Congolese it works in larger scale? I’m not sure.
Is there a site that can tell me the top tracks or new music that Congolese are playing. This forum helpful but I feel like I’m landing on some tracks via TikTok that I didn’t know existed.
I like the song but it badly needs a sebene. I don’t understand why Congolese musicians just don’t make a separate track with the sebene. This track felt like it was building up to something and then it ends.
Last weekend I was at a friends birthday party and he played a lot of salsa music (he is Colombian). It got me thinking what are some of greatest Congolese salsa songs and or albums? It’s pretty hard to think of the top of my head. I know Blaise Bula had a song, Karmapa and few others back in the day.
