The concert did happened but it appears that Bill Clinton and Celeo Scram didn't show up or maybe there are not videos of them yet. I have one of the videos here. Who knows? Here is the video.
This one individual from Youtube made the correct comment about Papa Wemba's final album Maître d'école Here is the comment from Papa Wemba's song Poule de la mort Tu savais que tu partais deja..meme tes titres et chansons les disent English translation You knew you were leaving already...even your titles and songs say so
I agree with this commentary one hundred percent about Papa Wemba's final album Maître d'école. As we celebrate the 9th anniversary of the death of Papa Wemba, I wanted to post about Papa Wemba's final album in another way.
On Papa Wemba's final album, I noticed that Papa Wemba seemed to make his love songs more like he was reliving his old days or appearing to use someone's past into songs as well. Furthermore, Papa Wemba was basically indirectly saying goodbye to us but we did not notice back in 2014. Look at some of the titles that seem suggest this Mobembo, Metamorphose, I need you, En Couleurs, Simple Reve, Nostalgie, Bande Passante, T'en vas pas and Ma Rosa. On top of that, I found it strange that Papa Wemba would make an album called Maître d'école because we all know that Papa Wemba was foridoles which means Formateur des idoles. Why this title which was my question back then? But after listening to the album, now I get why he called it so. He was indirectly telling his family, his group and us his fans that he was on his way out. Good example is the album cover. The fact he is teaching people was one indication that he was teaching his students (well, his former and current musicians then) on how to continue his music and empire he created which is Viva La Musica. This leads to three songs that exemplify his indirect messages about his then upcoming departure from this world. There are more but I choose three to show this. JOHNNY LOPEZ
POULE DE LA MORT
BLESSURE
Johnny Lopez is a love song that is noticeably more detailed about money that it should be. That was a give away that he was somewhat talking about protecting their assests and wealth. It was like Papa Wemba was singing about a scenario to prepare if something unexpected happened. He also gave tribute to Tabu Ley towards the end of the song. Poule de la Mort is a song where he pretended to be Trésor Ngando in which he is indicating that he cannot win the match because he will be gone after the match which is why he has decided to stop the match from even beginning. Indirectly, it was Papa Wemba's way of saying that he was going to die on stage but under a boxing match as Trésor Ngando. Blessure shows a broken hearted Papa Wemba as he gives his tribute to Kester Emeneya. It was clear that Kester Emeneya's death really broke Papa Wemba so deeply. I feel like Poule de la mort seemed inspired by the song Blessure. Part of the reason I choose these three songs is there are two things that stand out to me. ZAMBA. On Poule de la Mort and Blessure, he would use the word Zamba which is a lingala term for the bush or the forest. To me, it appeared that Papa Wemba was using that word to indicate his upcoming departure which would happen in 2016. He was letting us know that he was not the same anymore. PETIT ROSSY (PETIT ROSSI) The strangest thing is this. On the songs Johnny Lopez and Poule de la mort, Papa Wemba would call himself Petit Rossi or Petit Rossy which is unusual in my view considering that Papa Wemba was a senior and he was basically the oldest active artist. He did not say Bakala dia Kuba, Mzee Fula Ngenge, Bokul, Kuru Yaka or those kind of nicknames. But he called himself Petit Rossi. Why would he call himself Petit Rossy? Likely because again he was reliving his old days and he was indicating that he was leaving us soon. I felt that sentiment when he said Petit Rossy.
I got another element that I feel like JF Ifonge is Team Koffi. Although JF does kind of wants to give concern to Fally, you can sense JF kinds leans towards Koffi even when he gets at him somewhat. It was a reference that Koffi made with Papy Mboma. JF believes that Koffi Olomide was sending Fally Ipupa an indirect message.
Good thing that you posted the second video of Sam Tshintu. Apparently he is not the only one. Koffi Olomide seems to have a habit of sending people to say some very hurtful things. It turns out that he had a fallout with journalist Noelle Madinga. She claimed that one of Koffi's spokesman wished death on her child. Here is the interview.
It is around the 15:00 to 26:00 area which she speaks on her fallout with Koffi Olomide.
You are actually right Archos 100 percent. Cindy le Coeur is actually pretty good with animations. Another good example is Abracadabra generique. She also showed up props here.
Finally JF Ifonge made an interview about the death of Oceane Mpiana. I am surprised that JF did not go so hard to JB as I expected. I guess he knows more things that he doesn't want to say. I can see JF is very touched but he is trying to hide the pain.
Sadly this conflict will not go away. It is clear that the Fally Ipupa fans and the Koffi Olomide fans will be attacking one another for days to come. I am only afraid that it can get more violent.
I love this generique. Lots of guitar playing and great drumming. I feel some of the old Celeo that I enjoyed and love. Great work. I give this one A plus. Celeo's voice is from the old days but it sounds better. That makes me happy as a Celeo fan.
Actually you got some other works that had definite tensions. From Franco and Pepe Kalle edition
Franco and Le TPOK Jazz: Bomba Bomba Mabe Europe Recordings When Franco was recording songs like Bomba Bomba Mabe and Oh Miguel with other songs, it just came when Michel Boyibanda and Youlou Mabiala had left the group as well as some members being very mad most notably Michelino Mavatiku and Ndombe Opetum whom decided to do some nzonzing work which led to both of them being suspended and Michelino left the group not long after that. Also, Josky Kiambukuta was doing a nzonzing work with Mayaula Mayoni and Youlou Mabiala called MAMAKI which reportedly angered Franco so deeply. During this time, he recruited Djo Mpoyi and Diatho Lukoki who did their nzonzing with Mayaula Mayoni some months back. It was pretty bad for Franco during these recordings from 1977 to 1978.
Pepe Kalle and Empire Bakuba: Cocktail As some know already Empire Bakuba was admist of several conflicts. Dilu Dilumona and Papy Tex did not sing a note in this album because there was fuming bad blood between Dilu Dilumona, Papy Tex and Pepe Kalle. Their friendship was basically dead during this time. Papy Tex and Pepe Kalle were estranged due to Pepe's rage at Papy for reportedly having romantic relations with his young sister Charlie who was a dancer for Empire Bakuba. Also, most members had stabbed Gode Lofombo in the back as they felt that Lofombo was getting more and more favors from Pepe Kalle. Djouna Mumbafu was already getting hated by most Empire Bakuba as they were already looking for new animators. It appeared that Djouna and Gode began to have a semi cold war as being the favorite of Pepe Kalle. Part of the appearance of this civil war came with Gode recruiting a Djouna copycat John Scott Ortega. However Djouna and Gode were still very close friends. Also Kinanga Boeing 737 got nonimated by Pepe Kalle to be vice president which angered Dilu Dilumona and Papy Tex especially Dilu who actually wanted Kinanga out of the group years prior. Also, Pepe recruited Germain Kanza and Laudy Demingongo who got kicked out of Zaiko. Laudy and Germain would be with Djodjo Ikomo, Biya Chante and Desouza Santu as singers. Then of course, the biggest one, DELTA FORCE which was created by Gode Lofombo. This creation angered many Empire Bakuba members as they accused Lofombo of trying to kill the group Empire Bakuba. As I said before, if Pepe Kalle had remained alive, he would have two groups. Empire Bakuba Delta Force with Djouna Mumbafu, Gode Lofombo and Kinanga Boeing 737 and Empire Bakuba Kadima with Dilu Dilumona and Papy Tex. Here is my talk some years about this theory of mine. https://congovibes.com/index.php?topic=24190.msg118431#msg118431
Thank you for sharing this photo but I want to explain. This was when Franco was not a big name yet. This had to be in late 1950s to early 1960s period when Franco was setting his foot as leader of OK Jazz. At this period, the number one artist of Congo was Grand Kalle.
Stino Mubi was beginning to show his real self slowly and slowly. Not long after, he would begin his Michael Jackson phrase. In the sense of clothes, I mean.
The biggest problem with Koffi Olomide is his over bloated ego. He has been obsessed with remaining number one for a long time since his very successful song Papa Bonheur. Since then, he has wanted to be only Congolese artist to be regarded and everyone be forgotten. This is why he would engage in controversies with Kester Emeneya, Papa Wemba, Felix Wazekwa, JB Mpiana, Werrason, Nyoka Longo, etc. He wanted everyone to talk about him only concerning Congolese music. Now he has lost his glory and he is angry as you can imagine. He is beefing with Fally Ipupa because he wants to be above Fally by all means.
Koffi Olomide holds on grudges as some say. He has grudges towards many of his former Quartier Latin members including Beniko Popolipo and Do Akongo. With the death of Passe Kosse, I feel like Koffi will get angrier towards his ex-Quartier Latin members.
