Congolese Music / Re: The economics of Congolese music
« on: May 24, 2017, 09:03 »
I just wonder if the other band members are being fairly compensated for their hard work. How can you be buying Bentley and Porsche when your employees can barely make ends meet, or get paid when you are feeling generous. No wonder Papy Kakol cant even afford a decent house furniture never mind a house. We cant be enslaved by the white men and the black men too.

And how much are his dancers and band getting, are they also driving at least a cheap Toyota?

He is the legend Congolese musician in EAC whatsoever kind of fate he is facing now.

Yes my friend, this was when songs were made for non-stop dancing. The music made during Soukous era just had so much positove energy. Even the guitar playing in the fast songs is sublime

This 4-in-1 songs everyone is making now are just annoying

Congolese Music / The economics of Congolese music
« on: May 23, 2017, 14:02 »

When I saw the inside of the home that Kakol and Linda live in, it did not strike me as being of a standard one would expect from such a prominent musician and long-serving member of WMM. Some may say Kakol is just a modest man, but I doubt that very much.

This made me interested in exactly how much each member of a prominent band like QL, WMM, WBCBG earns.

From the big guys themselves all the way to the dancers. Are they paid per gig or do they have contract that pay a fixed amount for a certain period.

I know from previous posts that major artists sign contracts with beer companies to be "brand ambassadors", which may entail penning a generique in praise of that beer, and that this is a huge source of income for the artists concerned.

I just wonder how much share of this booty would end up in the hands of someone like Brigade/Bibicia/Zambrotta etc.

I would also like to know what would be the average price of concert ticket for one of those leading bands in Kinshasa (not overseas)

Koffi makes a valid point by asking the combatants to take aeroplane to Kinshasa and rebel themselves against Kabila. How can you expect others to rebel and risk their lives while you are safe overseas.

.
These Combattants are cowards. Even during apartheid many people ran away to other countries, those people did not ovethrow the government. It is the people who stayed behind who were most effective in overthrowing apartheid be through sabotage, boycotts and bombings.

.
Even in Zimbabwe the people are realising if they want to change government they must do it from inside but the country. All sanctions are not working and it is the Zimbos who are suffering

I thought these idiots were old news, I remember the chaos they caused here in South Africa at OR Tambo Airport. Thankfully the cops saved the day and the Fally was unharmed

Congolese Music / Re: WAZEKWA SAYS KOFFI WAS "UNFAIRLY" ARRESTED

This guy is one of the most down to earth artists I have come across in Africa. You can tell he is a Christian and is not selfish. I didnt know about him until I saw the video of Ah Ngai a few years back and since then i have liked him and his music.

Great to see these girls using the little fame they have to build their careers. They always seem to disappear through the cracks. Many are hating Kofi for taking Cindy under his wing but he did something most artist would not have done and gave her an opportunity to shine.

There are too few female artists in Congo, one of them needs achieve the same fame as Kofi, JB and Werra

The same Werra who broke up the best dancing girls group ever assembled in Congo. Linda, Cuisse poulet, Bibisia, Gisele, Kadogo and Anya Starr were scorching hot together.

Werrason had to fuck one(Gisele) and get her pregnant, fuck another (Linda) and pass her on to his drummer Kakol, fired the other(Bibisia) for arguing with Linda, fired Cuisse poulet and Anya for being "too friendly" with the friends of their boss. And just like that the best girls line up ever assembled was destroyed.

This is my favourite Congolese artist of all time. it really saddens me that he had fallen off the face of Congolese music and has become a stranger to many Congolese. I think exiling himself in Britain/USA was career suicide. The quality of life is great overseas but it the DRC fanbase that keeps you relevant.

I really wish he would make a major comeback but it is wishful at this stage in his life.

I rate Songs such as Bili, Inde Moni and Sana far above anything I've heard in recent years from Congo

Congratulations on the new platform SLY and all the work you have put in. My only worry is that some old members might still be searching for vibes d'afrique. perhaps it might help if you put this as ONE of the meta tag descriptions on the websites source code. Not an HTML expert but it just might do the trick

A fool and his money are soon departed. Being a witchdoctor is the easiest moneyspinning job ever. No wonder so many Nigerians leave their country and become witchdoctors elsewhere. You just sit and wait for the suckers to come in and drop off their hard earned cash.

When you dabble in witchcraft, you invite the devil to wreak havoc in your life. The spirit world is not to be trifled with unless you are alread in bad shape and trying to get out and have nothing to lose. If you open the door you better know how to close it.

Must say Congolese dress code can give me fits of laughter. CNN has a show called Inside Africa and they once covered the Congolese entertainment industry including the fashion aspect. And you could see different groups competing on fashion , was quite funny how serious some people took it.
