Congolese Music / DUMBEST QUOTES FROM ARTISTS?
« on: February 02, 2018, 23:47 »
Artists love to say quotes in lyrics and mabanga, but sometimes their quotes are dumb.

“Tu veux manger piment dans ma bouche?” - JB “Do you want to eat the pepper in my mouth” ;D This always cracks me up and always gets stuck in my head. Makes no sense whatsoever.

“Didi Kinuani - le sauver de l’humanité” -  “ Didi Kinuani the savoir of humanity” - King Kester. This is when i thought the mabanga got way too ridiculous. Money aside, this guy is responsible for a lot of human rights abuses in Angola.

Probably won’t get much attention since the forum’s focus is more 5gen, but thought it was worth sharing. Gloria was for a long time one Viva’s hype man like Djuna Djanana, so I forgot how good of a singer he is.

The acoustic quality is pretty incredible, especially compared to recent releases. Looks like it was recorded at Studio de La Grande Armée, with either Ambroise Mvoundi or “Maestro” Souzy Kasseya à la prise de son.

Musique ya ba sapeurs, so feel good music with lots of sebene.

Some participants - Stino Mubi, Beniko Zero Faute, Ramazani, Simolo Katondi, Maika Munan, Luciana Demingogo, Abeba Lipordo, Santa Nyanga, Cele Le Roi, Lidjo Kwepi, Iko Lokole

Congolese Music / WHAT IS ZULEMA UP TO THESE DAYS?
« on: January 28, 2018, 19:49 »
His name was mentioned on the other thread so got me thinking. He is probably my favorite younger vocalist of BCBG, so it’s unfortunate he’s doesn’t get much air time apart from local concerts being on the 2nd team. The most passionate vocalist

Our dearly missed fiend, Shamala uploaded this one:

This 2nd équipe would give a lot of current first teams trouble:

Congolese Music / BARBARA KANAM LAUNCHES HER COSMETICS LINE
« on: January 27, 2018, 06:30 »
La belle de Katanga. Once again, Awilo you really dropped the ball....

She also launched "Kaman Music", her record label based in Paris that will feature young Congolese talent. Quite the entrepreneur these days

He been sending subliminal messages as of late. It’s going to be a giant spectacle at the airport CDG

The first two editions had the perfect formula - have all the big bands of the time put out their hardest hitting sebene and make it a compilation album. Wenge Tonya Tonya, Nouvelle Ecrita, Big Stars, Wenge MM, Wenge BCBG, Wenge Aile, Quartier Latin, Quartier Latin Academia, Ponderation 8 & more were featured.

It's still very possible today with the current groups like Gaston Amisi did. Actually, you can put together groups with the street groups of Matonge and put them in the studio.

Bébé Oceane. Probably the best example of "you're hot until you're not". He was in every other generique '01-'03, then he disappeared.

Diamant Vert representing Blaise Bula & Ponderation 8

Patou Tornade & Bizima Kondos representing Wenge Aile Paris

Diuna Mumbafu & Petit Reagan. Mawa trop the boy had a promising future

Tutu Caludji representing Wenge BCBG

Moshi Lipasa also had a fire generique representing Academia

You guys would probably recognize his name from Ferre/Fally/Koffi mabanga. He’s in Ferre’s inner circle

Pied de Jesus ;D

474
Every clip he’s gotta dress dress like an American rapper and surround himself with 20 something year old models ;D ;D

So sad to loose such a legend of African and jazz music

From BBC
“Legendary jazz trumpeter Hugh Masekela, a leading figure in the struggle to end apartheid and "the father of South African jazz", has died aged 78.

In a statement, his family said he had "passed peacefully" in Johannesburg "after a protracted and courageous battle with prostate cancer".

Masekela gained global recognition with his distinctive Afro-Jazz sound and hits such as Soweto Blues.

The 1977 song became synonymous with the anti-apartheid movement.

In a statement, South African President Jacob Zuma said Masekela's death was "an immeasurable loss to the music industry and to the country at large".

Zuma continued: "His contribution to the struggle for liberation will never be forgotten."

I really think it would shifted the paradigm away from Wenge MM vs Wenge BCBG rivalry at the time, especially with how good Jugement Dernier (1998) was. Son Altesse should've been among big 4gen leaders - he was even signed to JPS.

Had Titanic or Force d’intervention sounded like this album, people would’ve lost their minds. The sebenes are arguably more powerful and unique. The off-beat “lentement” drumming style really sets it apart. The sound still blows me away, waaaay ahead of it’s time. One of the rare albums where you hear every single instrument very audibly. I believe the sound engineer was Jean-Marc Bidaubayle at Studio Marcadet.

This album was recorded with fresh recruits, including the likes of Alvarito Solo "B52", Jeansan Sakoko, Kaddy Bass, and Jordan Kusa (when he was still a vrai chanteur).

« on: January 20, 2018, 05:49 »
Wow, undeniable ;D ;D ;D Very smart guy though.

lol, the commenters:
@marlahkumbu "Aza vraiment na mutu ya koffi"

@Ariel Arianho Mfundu - "oza na raison omba pe azalaka na mutu ndeti koffi mais jeune garçon oyo aza photocopie ya leader nayo koffi en plus alobi aza prêt pona kosala test ya ADN"

In my opinion, the last truly great BCBG sebene song from a BCBG album, as the sound is perfect. Great composition as well.

Eric Gbenye "Mobali" was one those names you always used to hear, not so much anymore

Loniatara on SS was alright, but the sound was bad.

Congolese Music / I WONDER WHAT HIS INSPIRATION WAS?
« on: January 18, 2018, 06:41 »
Le Karma sings differently here. When it come to modern rhumba it doesn't get any better than this - 12/10. Very refreshing album

Karmapa - Kassapard (CALIGULA, Vol.1)

Beniko Zero Faute - Beta lindanda!

The first video captures it from the very begining. The sound is poor, but it still wows. Brukina Faso... "Faso, Fasola!" - Defao voice & "Grande Cadre" Titina
