Which means the 32 children Wemba said in an interview was actually underestimated. The son interviewed is none other than,  "Mika" Michel Mao Koffi Olomide Shungu... yes, Papa Wemba named him after Koffi back when they were very close.

Not an attention seeking interview here, he's a very wise and lowkey business owner in Brussels.

In this testimony, self-reflection style interview, Wemba states 32 and says "don't be like me". Regardless, he's proud of his children. Probably the rawest and most honest (other than the 32) interview ever done by a Congolese artist. Very moving

Congolese Music / UH OH, WERRA DOES A FRENCH INTERVIEW AFRICA24
« on: October 27, 2017, 07:16 »

Wow, he's really improved a lot, it must be said. Big props to him. Back in the day, his French interviews were just brutal

Prince Pegguy Ley, aka the Fils à Papa when it comes to having a similar voice to Tabu Ley. An album (fall 2016) with so much variety and great compositions and sound. Also, the distinct rarity of having both Papa Wemba and Koffi Olomide featured on the album. Other artists would kill for that opportunity

This is the problem I have with most of these young guys (5gen and onwards). They don't realize that releasing an album is only half the job, the other part is a good promotional campaign and maintaining relevance.

One of the best examples of RNB/rhumba:

Two solid génériques; one with Kabuya.

Congolese Music / THE LAST SONG BABIA NDONGA DID
« on: October 26, 2017, 01:21 »
A nice zouk song. Babia (RIP) & Christian Schengen were both QL members

Barring his unreleased album, which will likely never be released.

He mentioned on French radio show he's his biggest musical influence

When I listen to this song again, especially the end it makes sense

Though a fantastic song, kinda (no, it is) sad that Biblia is  literally the only well known song to his name... I wonder how many times it was repeated by the jockey

563

This is but one example (RIP Papa Wemba):
Bercy (15,000 attendees) - Check
New Years Eve event - Check
Traditional intro ceremony - Check
European Diaspora Beauty pageant finals - Check
Foreign media presence -Check
French national prime time TV coverage  - Check

Koffi's Bercy also received similar treatment.

I only bring this up because Fally is really pushing the GOAT rhetoric, and it's insulting to people like myself who have great appreciation for the history genre.

Our resident Fally fans, I await your rebuttal calling me a hater yet again for giving some criticisms.

Just sitting back every term, traveling to Europe all the time, and paying artist to sing his praises. The last decent government of Kinshasa was Sakombi Inongo (RIP)

Big road sinkhole now filled with dirty water

565

(5:35) Awa Aziz is the female version of Defao. How can you bleach that much? It's just scary. Self-hatred to the max...

lol, my brothers living in Europe... why are Congolese extra arrogant there? All the donors/associates also interviewed here are absolutely intolerable. Even when I'm there seeing family everybody is so damn self-righteous

Congolese Music / ONE OF THOSE POWERFUL SEBENE SONGS WE ALL MISS
« on: October 22, 2017, 23:32 »
The song brings heat from start to finish

Too bad mokuwa mbongo had no choice but to give into the rhumba album format after this album

One of our fellow members will need to brace themselves, as they may go into ecstasy reading this ;D

Direct Translation-

"Big thanks to my brother Ferre Gola Le Padre for having honored "Papa Wemba" (a real legend of Africa and of Congolese music). You are the new king of Congolese music brother,
I appreciate your hard labor and vocal force,
May almighty god continue to bless, guide and guard you presently and always brother.
- J.Martin "

568
Usually a générique with a rhythm section this long would piss me off, but it works here as the point was to present all 25 (jk ;D ) of his atalakous and have them exercise vocally. Also present the addition of le meilleur drummer du moment, Île de Cambodge.

Audio:

Kabuya killed it

This and Libre Parcours 2 are my favorite Fally génériques

Congolese Music / A RECENT SONG THAT'S BEEN ON REPEAT FOR ME
« on: October 20, 2017, 23:03 »
A rhumba that's a nice breath of fresh air. I really hope Les Contre maîtres succeed long term

"The Guy is Good - Contre Maître Ibrator" (6:20)

It's been eerie quiet lately as if all the big artists are on sabbatical until sometime in 2018.

Not much recent developments from Koffi/QL, Wazekwa, BCBG (yeah, I know), Zaiko, Karmapa, Roga Roga & Extra, and more.

Ferre & Werrason already blessed us with great new albums.

Or even some of the Europe artists - although they are not major.
- Alain Mpela has a complete album, but seems to have lost confidence.
- Blaise Bula's still taking his sweet time working on his album
- Sam Tshintu?
- Reddy Amisi has recorded many new songs over past few years. And there's that duo project with Werrason coming whenever
