Papa Wemba was the lead actor in the first ever Feature Film from Zaire/Congo (1987). It still remains the country's most iconic movie and made Wemba an international superstar. He was mostly an African star prior. The film was shown at Cannes film festival and won an award at Gantes 1987.
Also featured in the movie; Emoro (Pepe Kalle's famous dwarf dancer RIP), Pepe Kalle (RIP), and Empire Bakuba. They also had a earlier role in French hit film "Black Mic Mac" (1985), which made the group an international star already.
Music from Zaiko Langa-Langa (a lot since they were the hottest band then), Tabu Ley, Tshala Muana, & young Koffi were featured.
lol, so much of plot line involved kindoki. Wemba was so thin back then, its hard to believe.
I'm thinking Fally might be a good candidate, but in that case it shouldn't be all French, quite frankly.
Felix Wazekwa (Lead Actor), King Kester (RIP), Reddy Amisi, Marie Misamu (RIP), Simaro Lutumba, Papa Wemba (RIP), Adolphe Domingeuz, and more all teamed up for a fantastic comedy/tragedy called "Les habits neufs du Gouverneur". Very popular film, but the success was local. Marie Misamu's performance was very memorable.
I guess for him & combatants... if you can't beat em, join them. He just to be relatively peaceful
(49:00) He also just released an anti-Kabila song
That's a possible life inprisonment if he steps foot in RDC as long as Kabila is in power. The flag is the flag of the country, not of the people in power.
lol, even though he wasn't always comfortable singing, Adolphe Dominguez loves doing mabanga for his friends more than anything, combined with his famous humor. Very entertaining, he doesn't even need a written list of names
A lot of 5gen guys sound like children when calling out names. Extra Musica gave Doudou Copa the role for a while.
A conversation between friends; wish there were more songs like this
" Bango nioso ba fan club ya Tata oh ba Allemand na ye, Ba fan Club adolphe dominguez Bruxelles na ye, Ba fan Club adolphe dominguez ya Filand ba ye "...
There are quite a few for me, but Danger de Mort stands out a lot. Wasn't feeling the album too much at first as it was overshadowed by departures and the releases of Droit Chemin, then Sens Interdit & Mirage Supersonic's Figure de Style.
Around the time BEK was being teased, delayed, teased, then released I started listen to the album more and realised how good it was (& the last Koffi album I listen to regularly). All the rhumbas are on point. And of course Fally's Pharmacien and Ferre's Insecticide. Both tried saving the best for their future albums, but the songs ended up being hits anyways
When it comes to natural sound (no bass boost, no overuse of synthesizers), I think the sound of the génériques and sebenes is as good as it gets. All the instruments are tuned perfectly, and every instrument is heard. Really wish there was a disc 2 with more sebene songs
Well it's being shared all over Congolese social media and even the 10sec portion I saw makes me want to vomit.
I don't understand how became a well-known journalist... friends have told me when she first got to Europe, she was a prostitute (some say still is). Deplorable; journalism used to be so respected in Congolese culture
