Very provocative

I find it funny so many the so-called “woke” celebrities are married to white women.  That killed his credibility for me in this regard. I have no problem with interracial marriage, but this it makes his motive  a bit questionable.

Like someone one said when Black Panther was in the works, once you have black dollar (attention) the sky is the limit for profit.

^ Not sure what you’re going on about; Wemba even said in interviews that he was not an official  member. They had a strong relationship back then that went beyond music in those years according to Wemba himself. Wemba even named one of his sons Koffi Olomide. I also have footage of Koffi as his sound engineer when he was recording in Brussels in 1983.

You simply dislike koffi, so I don’t exactly expect impartiality on this subject matter. I’m just trying to rectify false information because weekly we get threads like this... based on hate instead of facts, and then it’s either Mvulusi , Archos or myself taking the time to explain what actually happened. It’s tiring for people who just want to appreciate music.

I always wonder, with the way they are soo inactive, how do they earn income when not performing/selling music?

A lot of the ex-Soukous Star almuni have had small concerts together in the US, Europe, & Colombia over the years. They do get a little royalty money also. Aside from that, I too often wonder myself how certain artists make a liveable salary from music.

Unfortuately, some past artist now have basic civilian jobs because when musical income stopped coming in completely. Suzuki, Roberto Ekokota, Willy Bula, & Somono to name a few out of many - and they have local small performances on weekends. Then there are stories of certain artists essentially having "sugar mamas" that began as being x artist's fan.

@Longbluesquid do you happen to have the CD? I lost mine... only have Bilanga in my music library. Such a fantastic album. FBI is a another nice one

Btw on the album there's also a featuring with Emeneya's brother. Their voices are so similar. The one with Kester and Wemba I believe is called Nyota and the one with Joly Mubiala is called Celi Cela.

Wemba & Kester were not in the studio together when it was recorded because of their strong polemic.

I saw Yondo when I went to Switzerland a while back. She is putting finishing touches on a new album and looking for producers. She also went to Paris recently to record 2 new songs with Defao, the man sitting on a gold mine of new songs.

Congolese Music / Re: Which movie would you wanna see?

Koffi and wenge

If it's a Wenge movie, then I believe Ambassadeur Kija Brown would be the screenwriter then. He's the only one that was there from day one and who has remained impartial.

kiekie, for Koffi... Fiston Sai Sai would be the first to arrive at auditions since he loves trying to be Koffi ;D ;D

I don't care how big Koffi is Suzuki needs credit for what he created I can't stand that only because he became a legend Koffi like he made himself, to start he was a member of Viva if I don't go wrong and without Papa Wemba's help and support Koffi wouldn't  even recorded the first album which was a huge fail so Suzuki can talk how he want.

Koffi was never a member of Viva la Musica. He was Wemba’s ghostwriter when Wemba started to struggle early on his career (early 80’s) and he also assisted him when him (Wemba) first began settle in Europe. If he was a Viva member, that would also mean that Wazekwa was a Viva member too.

Have you ever listened Pas de Faux Pas? Koffi put an 18 year old Suzuki on the map by showcasing him on the album and giving him space to shine.  Till this day Suzuki’s most famous song is Stilla.  If Suzuki really advanced in his solo career, then he wouldn’t be talking about Koffi now at all. I’m a huge Suzuki fan, but it is what it is.

I hate to keep having to come to his defense, but y’all are trying to find ways to undermine Koffi with false facts because you dislike him.

And btw, the first generation of QL were still paid better than Viva La Musica or Wenge Maison mère employees... those QL members saw Wenge 4x4 members with cars & villas so they wanted the same perks as well. They didn’t get it, so a few of them left late ‘98.

The second generation QL members were all gifted Benzes after Bercy, and even dancers had villas during that era. Of course they won’t talk about that in interviews.

Every weekend he’s performing Koffi’s songs and being paid as a result... have you guys not seen the footage? If he wasn’t already, then it’d be a different story

Nonsense. This is the same Suzuki singing Koffi’s hits every Saturday at Chez Ndonga. Every so often he puts out an attention seeking interview like this.

I want to laugh, but I just can't knowing he's been in and out of mental institutions or in custody. I've been told he's not right mentally

I remember the time he embarrased JB's son by screaming at him in public to greet him the way Congolese love doing

Bebe cheri mon amor j aime....same thing I hear from every love song Fally sings...no new lyrics just the same.

Unfortunately Fally is the point where he could just burp on a featuring and his fans would still love it. Whereas, people give Ferre sh*t if he does a crossover featuring and say he should only be doing rhumbas.

On this song one would think it's someone like Alain Makaba on solo, but it's Sonor. For this album Roga Roga bought a Steinberger M series guitar, which was the prefered choice for Makaba since the Wenge 4x4 TT days.

At that time Defao was winning solo artist of the year in Zaire. He was big a sensation then with Hitachi, Amour Soclaire, & especially Solange. For me, Defao is still the best (or one of the best) living vocalists. Give him any composition and he'll do it justice.

RIP Jaggar, his story saddens me. He was great great soloist

@Wenge1995, yeah the sound work on the album is pretty amazing, especially listening with home stereo. Artists should understand that you get the sound right (with minimal synthesizers), then the album sound will not age.

It sounds better than the stuff Roga Roga is putting out now.
