Congolese Music / Best voice of all times

Who would you say had the best voice and the most control? I know its a tough question because there are different types of singers but there’s always one or two that stick out

Congolese Music / Ethnic groups
« on: March 15, 2018, 01:22 »
We’re all against tribalism but its a fact that the colonizers took different groups and hunched them together. Just seen a thread about how Fally is proud to be Mongo and I always hear that. What other ethnic groups are our other superstars from? Just inquiring not trying to start any wars ndekos  ;D

Documentary thats coming out in 2018

Crazy thing about a month ago I was just gonna make a thread about how we should get together and organize a youtube page where we interview legends from yesterday and we make sure to use subtitles because our music is African music. Its not just us anymore, it went much further and beyond our borders. Figured we have to get this on record before most of those legends pass. Happy to see someone had the same idea and ia turning it into fruition. If you guys have any infromation i think they are still requesting rare images and rare moments from that period to add to the finishing product.

Congolese Music / Classic albums.
« on: March 08, 2018, 00:52 »
Im from the congo but I was raised in hip hop culture. In that culture we have what we call classic albums like Illmatic by Nas, Reasonable Doubt by Jay-Z and All Eyez on Me by Tupac. What would you say are the 5 or 10 classic albums that every one should listen front to back. All generations included.

Congolese Music / For the BCBG family
« on: March 06, 2018, 01:15 »
Ndekos. Do you guys think that perhaps JB should have went solo-solo instead of going solo-leader of bcbg. I was just watching a live video someone posted on here today of one of his recent live performances and couldnt help thinking how much i think this guy deserves to win as well. While watching it seemed as though JB is a much better singer than bandleader. I could be wrong but it seems as if Maison Mere was bigger than BCBG during the 98-02 period but at the same time I feel that JB Mpiana was bigger than Werrason during that same time. If Im correct wouldnt that mean that JB should have been the first solo artist without a band and that maybe he would have been more succesful. I could see that guy having a career as big as Papa Wemba who I feel didnt always need Viva La Musica.

Congolese Music / Music of our Parents
« on: March 05, 2018, 01:58 »
What artists of their time did your parents listen to vs what atists of their time did you have to discover on your own.

Im a 90s baby and grew up in a Koffi household. Not much Wenge 4x4 or anything else being played other than Koffi. Little bit of Papa Wemba but no King Kester. At times some Franco but never heard my dad play any Grand Kalle.

As I got older and got more into Wenge I was able to see how much they insipired music of their time and even the Koffi that I grew up on. The more I did my research on our music the more I was able to see how much they got inspired by King Kester.

Still working on brushing up on Grand Kalle classics though, it’ll come in due time.

In retrospect at what point in time did you realize that Werrason was going to win the war.

Congolese Music / Fally Ipupa
« on: February 27, 2018, 05:03 »
What do you guys think of Fally as the number guy in our music. Do you guys think he’s pushing the culture forward or do you guys think the european/american lifestyle takes away from his work. In short what do you guys think of this new lane he is “creating” for himself. I for one think when you try to include and appeal to too many people at the same time it could take away from the quality. I think if he would have stayed in the congo music lane that he would be a lot bigger in the world than he is right now, but curious to see what you guys that go to kin often think.
