guys, can you explain me what is Station Japana please ? Sometime, i see that some members talk about this but i dont know who this group is
80% of the dances which bands danced in the '80s and '90s came from Station Japana. I'm not talking about cries, but dances.
Are you serious? Are you telling me this is the that guy came up with steps we seen in the Loi VHS and other groups of that time? Wow thats crazy. Didnt know that. Another reason I’m grateful for this site. It does make sense though. If this was in 1995 this guy was about 2-3 years earlier than his time

I dont know their history or if anybody famous came out of that camp but if you look up the leader of the group Radja Kula you should be able to find videos of him with Station Japana on youtube
Yes I remember now I think I got it confused with with Rumba on The River by Gary Stewart. But Rumba Rules was... different to say the least. I remember a few good things that he mentioned like Defao never eating with his band and the fact that they were one of the only bands with their own van at the time. But when i read those books I always expect to get so much more than the author can provide a lot of time. Sounds like he was a white guy (I think if i remember correctly the band wanted him to be an atalaku for a day because of the fact it was white and it’d attract peoples attention) and you cant really expect someone out of the culture to fully dig into our history. Overall still a good read though I learned about Station Japana and Shora Mbemba through it. Had never heard of them before.
I read it and felt like there could have been a lot more information. They seemed to focus on a few particular periods mostly the franco era. Still a good read but im still waiting on a book thats going to go indepth about our music from the 80s and 90s on up.
I really appreciate you ndeko. It can be tough being a fan of this music with every important interview being in lingala. I wish our leaders realized that our music birthed african sound and is followed on the entire continent and beyond
