I really wished that there was a mini-series like for Wenge Musica on a format like Netflix. It would have to be condensed because of the multiple stories and split factions but it would be a joy to watch if it was well written, produced, and directed.
Rest In Peace Ndombolo. Thanks MTV Africa, Canal + Afrique, Trace Urban and BBblack for influecing the youngsters and dj's of Kinshasa to kill our music.
Now I'm hoping that about a messias from Europe coming to Kinshasa with an album to save Ndombolo, like the way Karmapa came with Je m'Appelle Toi to, giving rumba a new breath. We are lucky that those who are born in Europe aren't really obessed with Nigerian/Urban music, but the problem is that they aren't taken serious and don't now how to make Ndombolo commercial, switching then often to Afro-trap, Coupe Decale because its easier. Maybe that Awilo can coach them how to do it.
And by them do you mean the musicians that are members of offshoot orchestras 10-20 years ago or the youngsters that also appreciate Ndombolo?
Interesting thread, I feel the younger artists of the diaspora/first gens are left out of the conversation a lot. I think it's mainly because they aren't that big or diluting their musical heritage (Dadju, Maitre Gims, Franglish, etc..) But they don't have overwhelming support from the Congolese community and aren't great marketing outside of the Francophone bubble.
I think artists like Clark Donovan, Les Masques (Kevany/Scotty BK) Jordy, Naza, and Ya Levis have potential if we support them. The Melting Crew awards has potential. Granted their lyricism in Lingala isn't the best, they do cater most of us first gens who appreciate the art of Sebene and Rumba.
And theeeen there's Afro-Congo... which to be honest is hard for me to get into, but I'm willing to support because I understand the need to branch out the musical styles.
@Wenge1995 I specifically meant Congolese female artists to be writers and producers themselves not having other men producing them/having an attachment to another band. Since you listed male musicians and writers.
For sure, I do agree. However, I don't think there's been room for Congolese female artists to be writers & producers to start with. They all have really great voices, they just lack creating a sound that fits them. *cue an amazing producer*
I still think Mopao is stretching the truth. Didi is a beauty influencer/IG model. A lot of IG influencers are invited to these kind of events to promote whatever brand or artist has to sell to create some kind of buzz on social media. Even if it included a photo op. In this case it's Rihanna clothing line.
I can't believe the two are actually being compared... I mean it's Vita Imana lol YO NELYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYEH OOOHHH-OHHH NELLY EH MWANA MABE
I was born in the late 90's and I still know this song goes hard and was much more successful than Eternellement.
Why are there so many Fally purists trying to revise the rivalry between those two on social media anyways? I feel like they do the same thing between Clan Wenge vs QL.
I've always wondered this. As far as the lyricism in Congolese rumba, when the singer is taking the perspective of his own or as man vs the perspective as a woman? Like to they go back and forth switching perspectives? I've noticed that Franco used to sing from the perspective of a woman sometimes too.
A sexual predator is a sexual predator, R. Kelly has been taking advantage of underaged girls for over 20 years and people have been knowing about it. This is not one of those "They are trying to put the black man down" situations. You can't compare wealthy men to the plight of Black men in this situation because Wealthy men have unfair advantage period.
R Kelly despite his musical genius and impact, is a sack of shit who deserves to go to jail and stay there for the rest of his life.
