The song Boucle made him lose alot of fans in Togo. It was a presidential campaign song for dictator Faure Gnassingbé. I don't understand why Koffi decided to put that song in the Chicotte a Papa-EP.

Either way, the flow was dead. The song was dead. Too repetitive. Too damn monotonous. And as much as I love Koffi, he needs to stop singing for Presidents. I was particularly disgusted at Selfie Sassou (As a fellow Brazzavillois). He did a whole half-hearted version of "Selfie" for Sassou-Ngueso but... I decided to let it slide.
You will be even happier knowing that Werra also sang for Sassou

Maaaaaama ehhhh! I don't get it! What is it with these Congolese artists and their urge to sing for African Dictators? I don't know..

Chicotte à papa was in fact a massive mpiaka. But being a massive Koffi fan I managed to catch onto the EP. I loved the songs Forgeron (I first heard the song when I was 11/12 years old!) and Beaudelaire (which is a very nice rumba). They were both so chill! The one song I hated was Boucle, it was such a waste and one of the worst filler tracks Mopao has made. Skol Mandramanda I actually liked to be honest but I don't think Suzuki's vocal fitted well with the song at all. I'd prefer Suzuki to remain in the 90s QL Generation!
Del Pirlo was like a "Chocolat" part 2. With a reggae ish kind of sound and then a rhythm change. Both Génériques La Chicotte à Papa part 1&2 was just Koffi making random noises like Fally all over the Control album. So I was just like. NOPE. This ain't it. Good think that he came back strong with Abracadabra and the demo version of Jeune Pato in 2011!

Congolese Music / Re: New Zaiko?

Right now I’m 3 songs in and nakomela malembe ;D while taking it all in.  There’s a reason why these guys are the GREATEST Congolese band alive. The album has good lyrical content, explosive sebenes (nostalgic Zaïko), sweet harmonies and their rumbas are filling a void left by Simaro. Well worth the wait.

I totally agree with you on that! Period! For every sebene that comes up, I feel like one of them big bellied uncles dancing with an old man cap on with a can of Stella in my hand hahaha! (I'm only 21 years old!) the best rumba for me is Yaka M.

What people forget about Zaïko is that they're one of the most prolific bands in Congo which ended up making the industry for what it is! Despite other bands like OK Jazz.
Have a look at what I mean

ZAÏKO LANGA LANGA- (Clan Langa Langa)
                   |
        Isifi Lokole
                   |---¦
                       ¦
Choc Stars ---- Viva La Musica
            ¦                           ¦
  Anti-Choc.                   ¦
          Victoria Eleison------- Quartier Latin
                                                     ¦
       Quartier Latin Academia - - - - - - F'Victeam

It's not the entire family tree I know but this is just a demonstration (and from Viva/Victoria we have Wenge Musica to WMMM and Bcbg)

I'm saying that Zaïko has been the root of Congolese music (not entirely) but in the case of band evolution, it started with Zaïko!

Congolese music is actually coming back properly

Oh man wow. I am on the 5th song and this straight fire!!!! Congolese music is back!!!!!!! 1,3,4 listen to those as a teaser.
Kiekie bro settle down, we have a long way to go before Congolese music is back. I think the album is good, but it feels like I’m listening to old man music, as it’s what it geared to, naturally

Honestly that's what I love about Zaïko, they stick to their sound! And it has a really nice nostalgic feel to it! I'm not really a fan of today's music as of much, I'm more of an 80s-2000s kind of listener! The song Yaka M. (Track 2) is a new favourite of mine. The fact that the group are all singing in ensemble, reminds me of the song "Temps Mort" by Franco & OK Jazz! I love the rhythm guitar that's panned to the left ear and the saxophone is just fantastic! Wow. This is proof that Congolese music hasn't completely died out!

If Depitcho and co didn’t leave ql at the time would it have been a 2 cd? Since Depitcho and Jf we’re destined to have songs on the album

A second disc for songs from faux chanteur and faux chanteur extraordinaire?

Looooooool! That had me thinking about the time where Bouro Mpela mocked his voice at an Academia rehearsal  ;D ;D ;D

THE ONLY THING THAT SEPARATES HIM FROM FERRE, ITS THE SOLO GUITAR...FERRE LOVES ACOUTIQUE WHICH I DO NOT LIKE MUCH...

I don't know about you but since the snippets that Fally revealed back in 2017, that guitar has been in my head for time! It's so contagious. But here you actually have a point!

And we give JB hard time for having dinosaurs on his 1st team line up but look at Fally...this song is basically just him and his uncles
We have been giving Fally crap about having this old ass team as his line up you’ve clearly been missing out. I’m worried about who he’s gonna bring to Bercy cause that recent US tour weren’t it, but again there’s rumours some of these guys are thinking of leaving so hopefully

Knowing his recent concerts, he'll probably bring the old guard with him. The best approach is to do what his former boss did 20 years ago and take some fresh faces to Bercy. At least that would make it slightly more exciting.
No one wants to see the old guards ahhh I’d rather he even takes session artists lol, Fally won’t bring new guys to Bercy mark my words it’s just gonna be a concert full of sh*tty Tokoss songs.

That's why I'm keeping my money to go and see Koffi! No shade to Fally though!

For me, as long it has the guitar solo at the end, that's all that matters to me! Because I remember before Control came out, I would listen to snippets of "Humanisme" in it's work in progress form (since 2017) where the guitar solo just spoke to me. As soon as November 2nd came round with the release of Control at midnight, I decided to play "Humanisme" first but disappointment struck me. There guitar solo was buried as it was the one part that I was waiting for!

Thank goodness for this music video! Now I can't stop playing it over and over again!

Congolese Music / Re: Affaire d'Etat (REVIEW)

Excellent review! To add onto your review, don't forget the "Boogie-woogie" Rock 'N' Roll influence in Piwawa! That's literally my favourite part of the song! And it fitted so well!

For starters, the drums in the 1993 version are absolutely strong as hell which I love, everything else is just inferior. The 2015 remix, I hated the little hip hop intro, it didn't side well with me.

We're gonna need a 2 hour clip of the concert with high quality sound and hd video. We cant keep having those bootleg clips we've been getting lately especially for something this big. The QL reunion was botched just because of that.

Same goes for Fally's Bercy. But at the same time they both need to be a their A-game because even though we may get high quality clips from these concerts, it wont matter if the performances are lackluster. I trust Koffi, but cant say the same for Fally.
Don’t speak about the QL reunion I’m still pissed off about that. But yeah you’re right I don’t wanna see no handheld camera footage with bad sound quality
That QL Reunion was far too messy...
