Congolese Music / Who are the big singers still alive from OK Jazz?« on: March 11, 2021, 04:31 »
As Josky is gone, I wonder which members are still alive from the famous line-up? Especially from the big names. What I know for sure is that Sam Mangwana is alive, and Malage, and there was a young guy around the end of the 80's, I don't know his name, but I guess he is still alive considering his age back then. Who else is still with us?

Congolese Music / The new direction of OK Jazz from in beginning of the 70's« on: February 10, 2021, 12:43 »
In the 60's the OK jazz had a classic jazz and rumba sound reflecting that decade, but from the 70's their sound changed, and sounded more like big band. I guess it was due to Zaiko and the new wave. Or not? What were the first songs featuring that change? I remember as if Franco returned with the song: Azda after his break. But There is a contemporary hit: Dje Melasi with new guitar sounds, I wonder if that one came earlier? Could you tell a bit more about those years?

Congolese Music / Roga Roga appeared live today on his channel« on: February 05, 2021, 23:34 »

Recently they make lots of interviews, etc., lots of talk, but I don't see the good records. I'd rather see him work in the studio as much as he is on interviews. 20 years ago Roga talked half this much but his records were 100x times better. 37
Congolese Music / If there was ever a rythm to represent Congolese music, this is that one« on: January 27, 2021, 00:41 »
There are many good rythm guitar parts from various songs, but if I had to choose one from the many to introduce Congolese music to a newcomer, I would surely pick this one. It is 100% african in every sense:

Congolese Music / That's why I say the Extra clan is lazy recently« on: January 03, 2021, 14:12 »
Guy Guy Fall - Côte Quest: I have this CD but had not listened to it for 10 years. So today I mined it out from my collection, and wow. I realized why I have remembered it as one of the best albums I have. But listening to it also made me sad. It offers so much more excitement than whatever the Extra clan released since 2007. These guys today are just really far from their 90's self. And it's a shame. Take these two tracks below, for example. And these are just a few of the many good tracks on the album. Not like today, when we find 1 or two on an album. Feel free to debate with me, everyone has the right to express their opinion. But mine is this.

Congolese Music / Durell Loemba shares video of making the new single« on: November 05, 2020, 05:40 »
The new single seems very promising to me. He used to play some good solos with his fractions, now this one seems to be a nice one, too:

Congolese Music / Nyoka Longo's page on Facebook« on: October 26, 2020, 01:34 »
It may seem to be just another page of many, but if you are a fan of Zaiko up to these days, check out the new official page of Nyoka Longo: https://www.facebook.com/YaJossart.NyokaLongo
Why I recommend it because it is very user friendly. When it was released, I sent a message there of something I wanted to recommend to the staff of Zaiko, and they replied very kindly. I don't know if it was Nyoka Longo himself or an entrusted person, but they seemed to take my feedback into consideration, and it is possible that they will be glad to react to other requests, too. So check it out if you follow the band recently as well. 45
Congolese Music / Zaiko Evoloko Branch Albums from the end of 70's« on: October 24, 2020, 01:58 »
I read a Zaiko biography somewhere that mentioned an odd thing, I am not sure it is true or not: that when some former musicians, like Evoloko, who left the group in the middle of the 70's rejoined near the end of the decade, there were actually two branches in Zaiko, one belonging to Nyoka Longo, and the other to Evoloko and some others, and they released albums separately. Can you mention some albums from that time that was created by the branch of Evoloko and friends?
