I have just came to these publications recently. The have been available from the Smithsonian Music Library for purchase in mp3 format for a long time, but have just found they are also available on CD and LP now. I have many tracks already that are listed on them, and I can recommend them to anyone who are interested in acoustic Congolese guitar music of the 50's. If you browse the website I link at the third place, you can find many more interesting publications, too:

I am mostly interested in pre 2005 Congolese releases, so I don't really follow the newest artists. I know about the opposition between J.B and Werra, but do not know about any opposition like this between recent artists. However from the debates that happened recently, it seems to me there are things like that. But maybe I just misunderstood it, and there is no opposition between artists recently, only between fans. Even if it is so, let me know which group of fans do you belong to? Which artist do you support the most? I see Manzambi did not like Fabregas, but I do not know whom he preferred. Who do you prefer personally? So let me know which clan you belong to. Your answer will have no negative consequence, just asking to be able to draw a kind of statistic.

http://africtempo.com/ has been around for a while. They have quite a few interesting titles, some of which are already out of stock elsewhere. And prices are quite acceptable.

Congolese Music / Should the ban be released for anastasio?
« on: December 21, 2019, 21:50 »
I, as the admin, banned asnastasio, I gave my reasons here: http://congovibes.com/congolese-music/ot-today-is-a-sad-day/30/

Some members however feel I was strict. So let me know your opinion, and case it is so, I don't mind giving anastasio a last chance.

Congolese Music / Album artwork achive
« on: December 09, 2019, 22:59 »
Hi all!

I have noticed that posting album artwork became quite popular here in the forum recently, so I decided to discuss it in a bit more detail. I do not mind this activity, I am glad that you feel like sharing all this stuff. Unfortunately here in the forum, legally we have no chance to make a separate section for album artworks. However, this would be the optimal solution, so every stuff could be found easily in one section. Recently, I am very busy, but I will try to find a solution, like making a space available for this artwork at a third party site that we can link here, a space where you can share the scans easily. Until then, having no better option, follow the directions here:

Hello guys!

Shabere, whom you may not know very well, was the guitarist of Renato Mondele and his band: African Ngwasuma in London. Though I don't know too much about his background in Congo, but being the manager of the band, I knew him well, and I can tell he was a very talented guy. What I really liked about him was that he was so authentic. His art represented something that was true Congolese. Though he is gone, his music remains with us, and I am glad that on the forthcoming album of the band, some very nice pieces of his creativity will be heard. I also managed to capture him on camera at his home 2 years ago, where he showed some guitar tricks, that I will upload in the future sometimes, and that will be really helpful to others.

Sadly, in spite of being creative, his life was not easy, and unfortunately he did not leave anything after himself, property or money. Actually he was in hospital in the recent year. At the moment, we are raising funds to be able to bury him.

I would appreciate if you could support our mission, and make a donation.  I am planning to raise 1000-2000 GBP for the purpose. if you could help in that, it would be great. Any amount would help, even if it's just a few pounds or dollar.

You can send donation to the PayPal account of the band leader, Renato Mondele to: renatomondelepay@hotmail.com

You can send money to my bank account as well. I have different currency accounts for EUR, USD, GBP and other currecies, request details from me in a private message. Maybe we I have an account in your country, and that way it means less fees for you.

Alternatively you can your donation by Western Union to me, request for my details in a private message, too.

I will report the level of the donated sum here every day in a comment. The donated cash will be given to Renato who is dealing with the process of the burial. We will make some photos of the burial as well so you can see we could make it happen.

You can donate in person as well at Maestro Bar if you live in London, see the details on this flyer below:

Finally, some videos with Shabere:

He is the guy singing Shabacika in the beginning and then playing on stage:

Here he plays bass in the studio:

Thank you in advance!

Congolese Music / New EU regulation for Youtube copyrights
« on: March 26, 2019, 23:01 »
I have just read in the news that the EU agreed on a new directive to regulate copyrights of video sharing sites, and it means bad for us music collectors. The sites will have to filter more what is uploaded. I suggest you to start downloading as much content as you can because soon even more videos can go missing.

If you want to upload in the future, but Youtube rejects the upload, try Vimeo or 4Shared. I think the latter one still has quite loose policies. Not sure about Vimeo.

Congolese Music / LONG MAINTENANCE
« on: December 08, 2018, 13:00 »
Hello Guys!

Our webhost required us to update our forum to meet their new technical standards, so we had to do a serious upgrade. It took longer than expected, but now it is over. Some further maintenace sessions can be expected in december and january, but they will be shorter, and will take time during midnight hours. Will notify you about them in advance in a post.

If you experience any issues, report it to the Support thread.

Thanks for your understanding!
