Congolese Music / Re: General Defao and the big stars
« on: April 17, 2014, 09:29 »
I don't know what is wrong with Congolese Musicians, even Mayaula Mayoni spent most of his last days in Dar es Salaam being taken care by a Rich woman, and we all know What a top Musician Mayaula was, May be Archos and Sly can tell us, how do this Musicians spend their money? I do remember in 1997 when Wenge Musica BCBG first came to Tanzania, a local journalist wrote on his colum how suprise he was after learning that the band was paid too little money despite the success of the three shows they had in Tanzania

That is the life of entertainers, glamor in public but even more sad reality, Even MJ was said to be fast going broke in his last days, My friend Congolese  musician will buy anything new in clothing even if it will mean bringing some of his shoes to act as a collateral. I mean the pressure to look good and attractive will make these people to buy there accounts out.

But many have learned from the likes of Defao, Mayoni, Bikasi Bijos and many other great artists whose life was brought down due to poor financial managment. Education is investment NO1, Koffi amongest others have done some investments and they don't depend on Music  as  the only souce of income. Archos should funish us with more info on how some of the Musicians have done some investments

I have always wondered if Gen. Defao ever invested his money well during his pick time. The kind of humiliation that Defao went through was sad to a man who was loved to the maximum. At one point Defao was said to have been taken by another woman and lived in the lower middle class estate of Umoja in Nairobi just after the rich woman had also dumped him for not being a man enough. At that point it was said that the man did not have powers of a man. A year ago I spoke to one of the musicians whom he hired several times and asked him the fate of Defao and he told me he came back on his feet and now lives well in up market Hurlingham estate in Nairobi being assisted by his bothers and some people he took to Europe during his high time. He has since taken a very low profile life, I mean its not easy to meet him in Nairobi.

You are right Ken Nyakone, He  performed all  weekends at Egesa club at Umoja and he boosted business at this club all weekend many people packed the club to see him, talk to him and take selfies.  He also recieved financial help from FM Academia of Tanzania.  You cant see him at the moment because he has been busy working on his two Albums . There is a song  in some commercial DVD i have called (Annelick K), It was shot in one of the European Countries and you could  see the Original members of Big Stars in it.

They both show big respect for him and so much Love and still potray him as a leader. His problem is financial managment, He spend most of his doh on blingbling , Bilamba and expensive expenses.

There was also rumours that he was broke to the extent that he couldnt afford to pay rent in Nairobi, Ngombeshenzi can you enlight us on this? Does he perform regularly in Nairobi?
Yes, his producer abandoned him mid tour, some shows could not even take place in Tanzania and with him avoiding to go to Congo it was tough. Even in Zambia he started playing in the slums/ shanty townships so there was a threat from congo that's why he couldn't go back there and has never been back, last year he said he was going to congo, I think he said the same this year too in an interview but we'll see.

General Defao was fixed by his producer when he came to Kenya, He was booked in a very expensive hotel with his Big Stars bar. Him and the Big stars had a good uppetite and so they merried like there was no tomorrow not knowing what was waiting  for him ahead. They stayed in the hotel for several weeks 2-3 , later after some  electrifying shows, his producer vanished and it is when the hotel managment accused him of failing to pay bills that had accummilated to millions of shillings.

He was arrested and taken to remande, It is when one of his biggest fan, a very rich Lady, bailed him out and payed his outstanding bills, moved in with him afterwards and got married secretly. Defao has been performing in Local clubs in Nairobi like Egesa,Deep west, tends, dream village and private concerts for rich politicians and businessmen in Kenya.

He has a huge fan base in Tanzania and people call him there moto ya pamba( Mr. Bling! Bling)

Translation of what he is saying please?

Thank you so much for this information. I am indeed impressed how Karmapa does it on his own with limited funds and comes up with a very  nice Album.  Too much money = poor songs/Albums. Looking at the costumes, dress code and organization, Very simple and down to earth. Nice clips that the whole family can sit down and comfortably watch.

I tend to believe after the Album Le Millionaire sponsors will start knocking on his door. I have all three of his Albums in my Library collection and my Colleagues who are deep into Congo Music like me are buying his albums both in CD/DVDs . Gossips of his nice Rhumba is spreading  so fast in Kenya and his Music is giving teeth(joy)to many.

This is the music we have been deprived for a very longtime. His musicians are simple and committed to the talent, tell me who is this  staff of his that sings the song ( Hypocryte) ? and is this the end of the bibiliography ?

My dad  and his fellow comrades are growing to being your biggest followers.

My friend, Lobeso is a traditional singer and not ataluku, the type of animation he's used to doing is literally incantation,it's too traditional and the fans of La Zamba are tired of it that's why he's been given the thumbs down after the entry of Bercy a new comer to animation.

DJ SLY sadly, i must agree with you . How i wish he were able to blend  both the tradition and modern. The current generation needs something appealing to them. I like him though for i always hold to tradition and never let the entire of it to fade away.

Congolese Music / Ahmedjan
« on: April 10, 2014, 17:09 »
There was this guy called Ahmedjan, I bought one of his DVD with 3 songs. What happened to him ? He calls himself mwana ya Tcha tcho, mwana ya mopao.

194
The day this guy realises he was born to be behind the scene not the main person than that will be the best day ever. Composing and writing songs for other artists and producing others was what this man was sent to do not singing or trying to be a leader.

We love him so much in Kenya, personally i am his fan.

Hello and welcome to Congo Vibes and you told a really cool story and yes Le Karmapa is a very good artist and his Le Millionaire album with the very beautiful and talented singer Tatiana Cruz has a lot of beautiful and well arranged rhumba songs and the generique  is pretty good as well. I'm with you on the Clan Wenge thing I'm on team Maison Mere when it comes Wenge. And your story further indicates that Congolese Music (RDC) is the American music of Africa because it travels through international borders and other people from different countries want to listen to our music.
Werra once said thatbin every house in Congo there are 3 Werasonique and 2 Mpaina Fans, we need to establish who enjoys the most support in this forum, I am werrasonique from the first day of the split.

I rather would say that  whatever Werra said was his  own opinion, I am a Werrasonic  but times are changing and  it does not mean being  a werrasonic even if he does some shoddy Job,i would keep calm and swallow the pie.   Congo Music(RDC) is  indeed the American Music of Africa. All radio stations in many African Countries since  independence  have been playing congo Music, East, West,Central and some parts of South Africa and even the Northern Countries in our Continent recognize Congo Music.  Werra, JB and Koffi Olomide are famously known musicians across the globe, Now  talking to changing time Fally, Ferre, Meja 30 and  Felix Wazekwa not forgetting KarmaPa and other  musicians are taking center stage.  I cant sit there and not  buy their music to develop the wonderful talents !

We must accept the children we are giving birth too are embracing a different culture of "Fally, Ferre, Meja 30, Fabricas, poor Cindy,Kabose among others.  The world at one point had to burry the fierce rivalry between Franco and Tabu Ley and welcomed the new phase in Music.
