Congolese Music / EVER BEEN TO LONDON?
« on: February 23, 2019, 12:42 »
This song is about breaking your back I like that people all over are catching the fire...but I don't see much backbreaking here. But the real question is have you ever been to London (at the 5.20 mark)  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Congolese Music / FROM ACROSS THE SEAS
« on: January 06, 2019, 15:21 »
This band, SOUKOUS EXPRESS did its thing in the 90s. It took me a while to know that these dudes were Antillais. They ranked in the Dr. Sakis, Dany Engobo type soukous , but regardless they stuck to soukous instead of Zouk.

Is this what is commonly called Culture reappropriation?

Does anyone know who their soloist is?

Congolese Music / FALLY'S INFLUENCE
« on: December 16, 2018, 11:06 »
Except for Extra Musica whose Etat Majeur was vastly used in choreographies, Fally has the most copied choreographies of all modern-day musicians. Just about all of his generiques are covered in choreography. Original was big when it came out, now this also has a followership. His music may not always be catchy but his dances are widely known, which invariably makes him more popular and a commercial success than others.

If I'm wrong enlighten me... ;D ;D ;D ;D

Honorable mention: Rosalinda "Break your back" is also doing it....

The woman in traditional clothes killed it at number 10, then number 6. Yours may differ...

Congolese Music / Any information on this generique?
« on: December 02, 2018, 11:50 »
Just wondering if this is part of an album in the works or just a maxi-single? either way, Jamaique will shine.

Impatiently waiting for this. would be nice to hear Jamaique in a studio version of his works. He's quite flexible with his voice. I just hope he doesn't get burned out doing all the work while others are slacking.

Congolese Music / Not quite there
« on: November 06, 2018, 21:13 »
I think it's safe to say Rumba is Fally's bread and butter. I checked out this generique and it just doesn't have it. The solo leading into the generique didn't quite blend with everything else. Lengthy keyboard chords, Identite almost off key and other atalakus missing when he has like 500 of them. Last two minutes was like Power 001 all over again......Basically, a space filler. 5/10

He needs to go back to the Droit Chemin style of generique.

Congolese Music / One of the best covers of Kalayi Boeing.....
« on: October 09, 2018, 19:12 »
Very good cover. I played it more than once. I love the transition to sebene..the mi solo was on point and Kirikou tried....Vieux Koffi always has something up his sleeve...

Side note: Can we embed facebook videos?

Congolese Music / WMMM Instrumentals....NICE!
« on: September 23, 2018, 13:41 »
Nice collection of WMMM tunes. One of the best instrumentals out there. Anyone knows the soloist? Very polished. The drummer also is on point. No breaks. Well coordinated. Nothing like seeing multi-talented musicians at work. Werra should be happy that his work is keeping the music world going

Congolese Music / DID HE EVER MAKE IT
« on: July 19, 2018, 18:15 »
I stumbled on this just recently. He was a prodigy in the making and looked like he would have made the WMMM roster (although he needed some work). I wonder what happened to him. Maybe he was discouraged. Anyone knows?

I listened to these guys since they first came out. They were the best at using keyboards Africa ever produced

Wale Badru (Benin) and Woya (Cote D'ivoire).

Ambiance Facile was a club jam back in the day....What are your other favorites?

Congolese Music / WHATEVER HAPPENED TO HIM?
« on: June 30, 2018, 15:20 »

I remember seeing him for the first time the repetition video and I was quite impressed with his energy. He looked promising but since the video below, he'd disappeared. I know the older atalaku is with Heritier. I think his name is Vegeta

I wonder what stopped WMM from poaching him since they snatched Diego from Wenge Tonya Tonya.

Congolese Music / THAT TIME FLAMME TRIED SOMETHING DIFFERENT
« on: April 07, 2018, 22:56 »
Someone tells you Flamme Kapaya is the public square with a band! You leave everything you were doing to go to the square only for him to sing songs and pLays riffs you couldn't relate to. Rocking and rolling them..lol You could see the disappointment on peoples' faces. Flamme was smart about it, he pulled them in with his popular riffs then unleashed revolutionary songs on them....

I'm sure he's found happiness in the church but his secular work will always speak for him.

Be it Conge Brazza or Congo Kinsasha, Congolese music has transcended through many levels and is now part of world music. I remember living in Niamey, Niger in 80-85 and from listening to the international radio station Africa Numero 1, I came to know music from artists like Kanda Bongo Man (JT), Pierre Moutuouari (Missenge) and Zaiko Langa Langa ( Live au Japon), Aurlus Mabele Rosine. The genre generally called soukous then conquered West Africa and eventually most of Africa. By the late 80s, I knew The Papa Wembas and the Koffi Olomides. For Non Congolese folks on this board, I'm sure they can remember probably the same artists as well. But all this is not complete without mentioning Awilo Longomba. He was the true conqueror of the world. People like Ferre and Werrason would not have played in Nigeria if it wasn't for Awilo who brought Congolese music/Soukous to Anglophone Africa.

Any other honorable mention? Who did you listen to growing up in your part of Africa?

Congolese Music / Any knows which song this is?
« on: January 21, 2018, 11:04 »
Listening to this Mboka Liya Sebenology and at 2:40:02 is a WMMM song. I think it's Adolph's Voyage, but I could be wrong. Anyone knows? and a clean Youtube copy? Thanks

By the way these Sebenologies are on point and very informative....You can now attach certain riffs, playing style to certain soloists.

Congolese Music / OCEAN EBELE'S BEST?
« on: November 05, 2017, 09:40 »
This guy was at one point in just about all the congolese songs released in the late 90s and early 2000s. he's very repetitive and not quite creative. But in Zala Cool, he used animations that were never heard before (at least not by me).

What is he up these days? Still involved in music?

Congolese Music / ATALAKUS AS ARTISTES
« on: September 01, 2017, 17:33 »
There's always a big difference between artistes and Atalakus turned artistes. Big name artistes know how get players. You can always see it in their works (live or studio). Especially in live shows. Brigade is struggling big time at this FIKIN show. Low quality band members. No Alfred Solo, no decent keyboard player, most instruments were out of tunes....Studio works seem to be where they still shine.   If the name was not Brigade, i doubt there will be folks out there. Sponsors need to come out and support these guys.
