Congolese Music / Re: Who is the guy next to Montana
« on: February 20, 2023, 16:49 »
Thank you for the rundown. This goes to tell you that making it in Congolese music is not easy. If it's not in your stars to shine, it might just not happen.

The name of the solist is Nzau

The guy dancing next to Montana Kamenga is Jirbo Ntuta. When Defao was busy with touring in USA, he brought Jirbo Ntuta last minute in, because of the tensions within his band (wanting to have someone to support him) and some musicians already having left Big Stars in Canada because of anger. When Big Stars disbanded in Switerland, Jirbo went back to US and teamed up with Soukous Stars. He toured several times with them in the US and also recorded some albums.

After that he went to Kinshasa to form his own band Maison Blanche having 4 coups (aka Pepic Mbasu) as atalaku, the guy who animated the mbasi cri in koffi's generique swi

After that I don't know happened to him. But it looks like he got deported from the US. After some years he tried to relaunch his music-career in Mozambique.

He came to Paris two years ago to finish his album. I don't know if it already got out. He released last year a single with Didier Lacoste. He also made an interview with Teddy Mola about his time in Big Stars

Congolese Music / Who is the guy next to Montana

Was this Defao's full band? I know Montana Kamenga and Kabose Bulembi, and Theo Mbala. Who is the other guy and did his career take of? and who was
the soloist?

By the way, the Late Defao was a very good dancer. He carried this crowd along.

best of luck to you as you navigate this tough road to success. if you lived in france or belgium you would have a better chance. besides, italians generally don't like people of other skin color. good luck!

Congolese Music / Celeo Scram's Best?
« on: January 31, 2023, 19:24 »
There was a time Celeo was on top of his game and had memorable animations. These two are always on repeat. Celeo can maintain on his own for a generique or two.

If you were to vote for one for the animation hall of fame which of these two will it be?

Also, Mboka Liya Burkina Faso Vs. Flamme Kapaya who played better in these two generiques?

The atalaku at 3:45 has been with Bill since his first album...I wonder what drives his allegiance with Bill, knowing that he could've tested with other bands and possibly make it. After all Jamaique was part of Bill's band...

May her soul rest in peace...she's has always been a favorite of mine. I remember hearing a song from her in 85 or 86. Even though I don't understand lingala. parts of the song still stuck with me...u we waka lu waka lulu e waka lulu  In the video, she was wearing the traditional straw skirt and had beads on her waist...(the things I remember...lol)
I'm still looking for the song up till today. I never knew the title of the song. If anyone knows please share...

Good to see the Bucks players support this. Even they were all stiff as hell :-)

Wazekwa is like the congo brazzaville of RDC...everything sounds the same, no matter who the atalakou is. he needs to do a regular generique once just to switch things around.

Congolese Music / Re: F-Victeam

Band management in Congolese music is a mess. Wenge Musica MM would never have been great if there was no Ferre, Celeo, Bill,Heritier and others. Leaders have to see this and use this rational to promote and reward members. If Fally claims that he does 80% of the work on his albums, does he ask for their contributions or just uses them to sing the chorus? That's all part of band management. Basically Fally Ipupa is F-Victeam but F-Victeam is not Fally Ipupa. Looks like those band members will always need to have second jobs to survive.

his licks fit more with Zaiko than any wenge band.

Adolphe overshadowed Werra in the early years of WMMM. he was dominant in Intervention Rapide and Solala Bien with the dedications. If you want to prove that you're the leader, you have to show it. Werra did what needed to be done before he lost WMMM to Adolphe.

He will fit in Fally's band well.
