Congolese Music / Re: Help with this track/ Album
« on: July 30, 2015, 14:42 »
I have this powerful album but don't remember if there are credits of musicians on it apart from the basic production details like studio name etc, will advise when I check. The ataluku who opens and leads sounds like Mukusa ya Mbua who was with Koffi, should be him before joining Koffi.

Thanks. Yeah the whole album is fire. Too bad it didn't make a lot of noise. The rumbas left a lot to be desired, but the generique and sebenes are all on point. The drummer also played like Papy Kakol. As for the falsetto atalaku, I never heard of him on any other songs since. I don't remember Koffi having an atalaku that sounded like Mukusa ya Mbua.

Congolese Music / Help with this track/ Album

Looking to know who is the lead on this song and who are the two atalakus. This track is off Choc Stars et Ben Myamabo album called Ratissage. This is the generique off the album. I've had the album since 2004. If anyone is interested in the rest, I can upload it on Soundcould. I checked youtube. No video of any songs off the album and no...I don't have the CD jacket. Thanks.

Congolese Music / Re: In Defense of Bill Clinton Kalonji
« on: July 28, 2015, 22:22 »
The fact you're defending Bill says it all ;D.I used to defend Hercules but now most have caught up; this guy can light up any audience.

;D ;D I don't think he actually needs any defending. Bill has been a crucial member of the animation family. He had made his name long before the likes of Brigade. I like brigade too, but Bill is not to be pushed around. Bill would be mentioned before most falsetto atalakus. Tutu Callugi will be mentioned before Brigade and his likes. So what does that say of the so called competition?

I couldn't access the link (maybe because I am in the States?). If anyone has another link that works please share thanks.

In my opinion, it just doesn't make sense comparing a tenorist to a falsetto artist be it singer or animator. Bill should be compared with Kerozene, Genta Lissimo, Djouna Mumbafu, Acide etc and Brigade should be compared with Celeo, Kunzardo, Blaise Createur, CNN etc. The style of animation of tenorists and falsettos is completely different,  tenorists usually sing whilst falsettos speak randomly sometimes in a melodic way.

I agree, and even mentioned it that the two styles are different. But fans views are sometimes stronger than style (because some of they don't know any better). But at the end of the day, popularity is paramount to stay on top. It's just that right now, the people are giving it to Brigade.

I was watching some clips from Ndobolhino and found where they clipped together Bill and Brigade's appearance on Vodacom's Best of the Best on facebook. Most of the people that commented on that clip gave it to Brigade over Bill Clinton citing that Bill is finished.  Some of the commentators must have forgotten that Bill has been putting in work since the 1990s as opposed to Brigade who made it to the scene thanks to Effrakata (2003?).

While I can agree that Brigade is "hot" in today's world of animation with his harmonic and melodious animations with his high pitched voice, no one rivaled Bill at the top of his game from Intervention Rapide (please correct me if I'm wrong) to Tindika lokito (all with werra). His level or creativity is observed in all his works check the video below at 6:00 with just him and the Keyboard. If there was ever a Hall of Fame for Atalakus, Bill will be in the first Five atalakus. He may not be quite as good as he used to be but every unknown atalaku wants to be like Bill. They both have two different styles but to me, Bill is superior to Brigade.

So what's your opinion of the two?

This is sad. We are all here reminiscing on the man we used to love and who was a pillar of congolese music around the world. That same man is now getting in physical altercations with who...? Back in the day, Cindy couldn't even clean his shoes. I agree. She must go. We need old Koffi back.

Congolese Music / Re: VIDEO: PRINCE D'ANGOLA LIVE IN CONCERT
« on: July 26, 2015, 16:38 »
I like his hustle. But I must say he doesnt have enough repertoire to keep people entertained for hours and hours. He's not Bill, he's not Brigade, and he was never a main atalaku in Wenge MM. So I can understand him trying to do an anthropology of all big animations as part of his concert. Either way, good luck to him.

Congolese Music / Re: Kabuya leaves F'victeam
« on: July 23, 2015, 11:41 »
I would take him over Bercy Muana....just saying. He has potential to reach higher levels. Staying with Fally would have given him that. Too bad. I'm sure we will see or hear him soon a freelance atalaku or with one of these groups that can't really give him the exposure he deserves.

As long as they are not blood brothers he'll certainly leave one day and oh yes he'll end up in another band.
Joly Mubiala left King Kester, why do "certainly" think he'll leave why can't he stay with Fally??

Djunna Mbafo didn't leave Pepe Kally. Probably would never leave if he didn't die. Fally is here to stay, and people like Identite know where their luck lies. I can see Kabuya leaving before Identite. Fally seems to "like" Identite  more than other guys on the team so...yes, he may stay with him for a long time.

Didnt know that koffi recruited him. Do you know around what time? Before the brigade/bebe kero time?

awww man! He looks like he's doing some kain kain or something...  ;) Too bad he was never recruited by someone else. He would have been up there with today's atalakus. He is trying to release an album or something?

Congolese Music / Whatever happened to Reagan?
« on: July 10, 2015, 16:21 »
Ahhh Petit Reagan had something going at that time. he looked like he had a future. Anyone here knows whatever happened to him? Did he appear in other albums? Kiriku always reminded me of him.

The guy has a large repertoire of animations. He had been on several albums other than QL (notables Super Sonic' Mirage, JDT's album with Kerozene and Fally's Droit Chemin ). To me, something was/is still missing in him to see him as a force (maybe it's the unnecessary shouting). But I can't lie, this remix is pretty decent.

Congolese Music / Re: Musical Gem of Yesteryears
« on: July 08, 2015, 17:32 »
Soukous, this is the music that i failed to appreciate back in the days but these days i can tolerate it because we are lacking sebene in today's music but am glad,Congolese musicians have realised that sebene is the way forward and it's all thanx to the small boy Fabregas who has electrified the elders to wake up from their slumber, Fally followed suit and now Ferre has joined in so hopefully the elders join in.

To me this is really the foundation to today's music. It's still the same concept, just improved upon with complicated guitar work and atalakus actually singing as opposed to just hyping like Robert Ekokota did in the past.
