Thanks for the answer Archos. I asked because I know some time ago, Werrason tried to convince Didier Masela to comeback but of course he did not.

It looks like the Werra and Makaba ran the group; their positions were key on in charge of music and the other the finances. Maybe one day a respected journalist will sit the two down to  get a good breakdown of the rise and fall of Wenge.

yes they occupied important strategic posiitions, but to say they ran the group  impossible, the 4 administrators werra, mukulu, masela, makaba share responsabilities
for example jb and makaba  were signing contracts, werra was getting  the money and sharing it with the admins plus blaise and tata
masela was however the least influent
theirs skills were complementary which help wenge reach the  top
like werra's cousin kija brown said in an interview about a book he is writing, wenge  is werra jb makaba and a bit masela

With Makaba stay in Europe most of the time, Werra and JB shared the Supreme leadership of the group, on most Concerts you could see Werra Directing band members what to do, he even had powers to suspend musicians, After the release of Feux D amour JB became more popular and in result wanted to strengthen his position as a supreme leader of the group, which Werra wouldnt agree to cede some powers

Like in most cases the likeable personality was elected to preside but the master minds were Makanda and Makaba; my take...

yes werra was the guy at the forefront(with his huge strategic sense and leadership abilities),jb was the image of the group and more into human relationships(which helped him in having most musicians with him during the split),makaba was the artistic mastermind who knew how to use each of them in order to make them give their best and fight againt their weaknesses(being an extreme perfectionist)
but  they were  making important decisions together(with masela sometimes pissing them to death loooooooooool)

I believe JB had more the of the charisma than Werrason. I believe Adolphe and Didier Masela were the ones who were not impressed with JB Mpiana which I believe was the reason why they joined Werrason.

Had to dig out this thread. How was Masela pissing them off and why is it that he was less influential than the others even though he was Fondateur?

what happened with masela is that he was so nice with jb and werra when they were not yet a proven group than when crazy success arrived they dominated him but in reunions he was often the one who disagreed the most with stuff like keeping money between admins and giving a ridicilously low amount of money to mbuta kiss to pay musicians
so sometimes they'd spend hours and hours since masela kept raising points against the way jb and werra wanted the group to be ruled
or he'd do some stuff to express his disagreement,at some point in 1995 or something like that jb and werra found a way to avoid giving him his part of the money so what he was doing is that he'd go to their houses and annoy them hard or he'd take by force the car key and allow you to move only when he gets his money
if you notice well, makaba and masela started losing power from the moment they had back ups in mabanga, ficarre, burkina, japonais it fuelled jb and werra with the idea that they can live without them anyways if they are too unhappy since they had found guys who could cover well

Hahaha. He would make a very effective debt collector. So all the leaders where in on underpaying/not paying  the other staff except JB? since you mentioned that he would sometimes use his own money to pay them when they would go to complain to him president.

And I have always believed that it's difficult to be influential in a band if you are an instrumentalist unless you become the undisputed leader like Grande Maitre Franco and Papa Lutumba or Roga Roga. Since that as a guitarist or drummer you are not always in the spotlight.

And who joined earlier between Afande and Amelia? I have always thought that Amelia joined earlier but here on this this thread it says Afande joined earlier.

Alain Mpela joined in 1986. Giving to Werrason the song Nicky D and contributing alot in making songs. Till this day Marie Paul don’t like to admit in tv that Alain Mpela joined earlier than him. He sung the chorus in Mulolo. He had to participate on the Kin-E-Bouge album, but he had exams which made Marie Paul go to Europe instead him and doing his vocals on Kaskin.

Amelia joined in 1992/93 along with Tutu Calugi to replace Manda Chante who left after his illness.

indeed like mvulusi said alain joined in 86
when i talked about jb paying them it was in private, the money would go like jb werra adolphe masela makaba blaise sharing 90 Per cent of the money the rest given something symbolic, like 50 dollars 100 max
but then in private,if they went to jb's house to ask for money for a problem he'd give them and thats partly why(hopefully this part will not be badly interpreted) the group followed him more easily because some of the other leaders even between themselves when one came with a problem bigger than what they share, some were refusing to give money(i prefere not giving names lol) let alone the nobody's of then like ali mbonda, seguin and co
