Kilwa Jaz Band from Tanzania were the originators of the song under the name of NAPENDA NIPATE LAU NAFASI.

Then Le Seigneur tweaked the message and made it legendary.

That’s not true. Btw its Faugus who wrote the song for Tabu Ley. The story about how they came on the idea to wrote that song is here.

Faugus was inspired to write a song about the death, because of a friend who was ill and about to die.

Then did Ley borrow the sound from Kilwa?

Advising on the origin of this other one will not make him right, he may not know Dezo but we're just trying to learn from one  another. My point is NAPENDA NIPATE LAU NAFASI was produced long before Mokolo Nakokufa. Then the message in Mokolo nakokufa is different from what Kilwa sang but the instrument is the same.

I don't know anything about Shawili-music.

According to Faugus it's Guvano who created that sound when started to work on the song Mokolo Nako Kufa. The song was released in 1966. Faugus made a book about his career "Les coulisses de la musique congolaise" about all the secrets and things who were going on behind the scenes when he was with Tabu Ley.
