Congolese Music / Re: DONORS AND DOWNFALLS
« on: July 11, 2020, 07:21 »
They have the money when they give it to musicians. But sometimes it happens that they got arrested, their business going down or closed, etc. These moments make them broke. Sometimes it happens that they go towards the musicians and them getting blocked by the bodyguards. Some had created a band and their families visiting each other. But after the downfall, there isn’t any contact and if the donor tries to call the musician, the musician won’t take thd call. That are the things that angers them a lot. Guys like Photo Joël Mbetenge got their shop closed by the police because of Werrason for twice disturbing the public order. He created his fanclub in Paris who collected money and mobilized people for big events like Villejuif, Palais des Sports, Bercy & Double Zenith. Mbetenge was also the person who hired the motorcycle for Werra’s entrance at Zenith, the horse at Bercy and the goat at Villejuif.

I was always confused by Mbetenge's bitterness, because why do all those things for no payment? Getting praise in concerts and albums is underselling the hard work he did to make those concerts as mythical as they are. He put too much trust in that friendship...

Everybody was focused on te process of Kamerhe, it’s just that this is a music-forum and people got getting interested in it. But people in Kinshasa were following it like a soap everyday  on tv and street through those écran-géant and here in people sharing on social media the links to follow it. Every day there  memes made about it (calling it prison-break). Every week they would make joaks about that Libanese guy, who claimed to be sick and wanting to suicide himself and Kamerhe’s sentences getting citated « je veux mettre le feux ». Also the shock had when the lawyer got killed. Nowadays most Congolese people are focused on politics these days and not music or sports, Congovibes ekosa yo it. There were recently big protest marches and the houses of Aubin Minaku & Jean Marie Kassamba getting vandalized, also te church of pastor Sony Kafuta yesterday. Btw Kamerhe’s process made many people in South-Kivu furious and many wanted to get a own republic (Repuvlic Kivu) with many putting flash of it in the streets.

When donors lose money they got abandoned and not mentioned anymore in songs. That’s also why many in Europe became comabttans. There are on YouTube some interviews of former drugdealers who don’t wanna hear the names of musicians. PDG MVB, Photo Joël Mbetenge and Liyebo Gravy Mfutila don’t like Werrason anymore.

Those donors are stupid, only give what you can afford lol

@Manzambi94

N'Yoka Longo got into some trouble with Belgium authorities for sponsoring illegal immigrants during his European tour, but was able to post bail and return to Kinshasa.

It was Coco Rubenga who snitched him after fighting about the money of the double-Forest National event. Nyoka Longo hadn't money, like Papa Wemba it was the Congolese governement who bailed him out. It took him 3 years to finish the case and he couldn't return to Kinshasa. In the meantime people were saying that Zaiko was finished. Then Andre Kimbuta (who's a huge Zaiko-fan) wanted to get him back in Kinshasa and Oncle Bapius who rejoined in Kinshasa started to recruit musicians along with Lola Muana who also joined. After 3 years Nyoka Longo came finally back along with Shulay and Doudou Adoula after 7 years of absence. But it took time to get Zaiko's fame back.

Lol not paying musicians as usual

784
yes they all got ordered to block him including miterrand champagne who he brought in,which is why he often said in last months sikoyo na recuperer mutu na nga ,he then had to create relationship with some equateur donors, which were for most also controlled later and told not to help anymore
thats why sometimes he loses it when he thinks about things like that and he says it himself(he is not the only one look at lobeso's rage for example)
before it is taken too personal, all leaders do that, when they want even the new generations like fabro and co
This is why you must take your donors for you and keep them from the leaders never share your donors with the leader. Like Chikito says when you are a musician the leader is like a Guru and whatever he says you do, but the leader also will soon drop you even if you haven't done nothing bad (Lobeso, Celeo, Brigade, Heritier and many many others) Celeo should left after temoignage and start his solo career. I mean Fally was still on QL and friend with Celeo, Temoignage was well received by everybody with the live performance in South Africa at the Kora's and everyone was waiting for him to leave. I don't remember if Cele had a song on Temoignage but I guess it was a Werra album and not a group one. Werra gave small hints that he wanted to replace him, Roi David super hyped up by Werra and the Group on Alerte Generale despite Celeo making 90% of the cries on the generique and the Miss Margo Sebene. Plus the hype up of Kene Kene and Roi David as a duo on Temoigange despite Celeo making all the cries even though Ilo Zapata by Kene Kene was a very solid crie.

Why Werra never liked Celeo? I have never understood it Celeo was the prototype of the perfect musician Can sing every tone serious with his work ethic and great writing ability. I could understand getting Celeo sidelined but with Roi David and Kene Kene I would expect him to take the lead

Werrason became increasingly jealous of Celeo Scram's popularity with influential donors such as Vital Kamerhe, Moise Katumbi, and Didi Kinuani. A lot of Congolese leaders don't like when their band is close to them in lifestyle; expensive clothes, cars, and buildings houses.

He couldn't get rid of Celeo, because Werrason suffering from the creation of Les Marquis. Celeo Scram gave him the animations that made Alerte Generale and Temoignage very successful, which is why Werrason had no choice but to keep him around. Once Brigade joined, Werrason had an opportunity to unsettle Celeo and replace him with someone of near equal talent.

That's very humilating to be washed naked by your grandmother everyday in front of your mother.

Was that interview of JB holding the young Heritier ever released on VHS ? I'm looking for it, because everybody is talking about that.

I didn't like Zaiko's Zenith. I saw it as the worst Zenith ever in the history of Congolese music. I thought that he would talk about his song Ngoma, which was a tribute-song to all Zaiko-members who passed away. It made him get the award of best 3th atalaku of the year (Nyoka Longo credited that song to himself, he's a big thief).

Those times were really difficult for the Zaiko-members. You are on tour, but then your boss got suddenly arrested and you have then to find a place to live and get money.

I was surprised how bad their Zenith, it was unusually low energy. What happened? You never struck me as someone who likes Zaiko, especially after Poison. If I'm not mistaken, your favorite album by them is Avis de recherche?

787
It warms my heart that JB Mpiana and Adolphe Dominguez visited Werrason. In spite of everything, they're brothers!

Why did he need to fly out for treatment? It looked like a broken arm, are the hospitals that bad?

788
Can he make it on his own?

789
there group has collapsed ,ambulance tried to go back but they refused because he was by far the one who attacked wata the most in interviews, all the rest except for arnake are wanting to return

Waah, as I have stated going solo is not as simple as it looks.

I think the whole group thing is dying in Congo. I meam Congo is the poorest country in the world, you will not convince a 23 year old guy to join your group and hoping to get paid maybe 100 dollars a month when they have Innoss, Gaz Mawete, Rebo DJ from Kinshasa and Brazzaville nd many other artists having success of their own with all due respect the PPU's staying that long time with JB amd Sonor staying that long with Roga are just stupid moves to me. The whole group concept is failed to begin with because is not physically possible to see a guy with 100 musician in the group and expects he pays all. Going solo should be the move from the first time you think about doing music because being in the group will get you nowhere

There's no business infrastructure to protect African people's intellectual property or stimulate equitable profit from it, those men you have mentioned are enjoying their success from non-African institutions.

Inoss was given a platform through a Vodacom (ran by non-Black South Africans) and French subsidiaries like Bomayé Musik. Until Congolese leadership establish law and order, the people will be struggle as usual or flee as economic migrants to neighboring countries.

790
To avoid being emotional on this plartform is understanding that 90% love Ferre, Simple. (Fally, Koffi or JB fan, just know there are too much Ferraris here) even if he makes less or more progress in his career he will be praised and sympathized.

There will go as far as comparing him with people who are far from his league.

See it yourself.

Check the names roasting Ferre. JV is one of the biggest fans of Ferre but you see how he is roasting Ferre do you want to see even the Fabregas, Koffi, Werra etc. Roast or I must stop here?

Quick Diaclaimer JV, Romeo Seben and POLE POSITION are fan of Ferre yet it doesn't seem like JV blindly followed Ferre and said Par Hazard was good. POLE POSITION will say everything Ferre does is good but as you see other ferre fans disagreed with him.

Next time someone wanna say something he must come with receipts. Period.

You had time today, ndeko! LMFAO

791
When I was young, I used to think they were gospel band because they never wore casual clothing at concerts or in clips. Lmfao!

I wish Tripason and Jose Nzita stayed in the group a bit longer, even Biva Ray!

792
Werrason wanted to make his singers known, but Madilu wanted to be he only star and liked to see how his musicians were suffering. He didn’t care about performing at Zenith, Olympia, etc. He just wanted to release his albums and please musiclovers with his songs.

Madilu would often abandon his band without money when going on tour in Africa, going back to Europe and those musicians fighting on their own to get back in Kinshasa. It’s sad because his band was full with talented artists like Pathy Moleso, Fofo Le Collégien, Volvo 840, Adricha Tipo Tipo, Babel, Rio Kazadi, Jeannot Ngidingongi,Mardorchee, etc.

That's very harsh, but it explains a lot! So Madilu was a bad hearted man? Or is it safer to say that his time in OK Jazz made him greedy when he became a solo artist?

I heard Franco rarely paid his musicians and members stayed loyal because they played for passion more than money.

793
They had an affair with dancers, but since they were favorites wazekwa could not suspend them he just left them behind knowing there would be other concerts
you are right about jose senga, may his soul rest in peace by the way he died during the corona crisis, cultura had quite a lot of singers for a young group so there was always guys left behind

My condolences, I had no idea he passed away! It's been sixteen years, but I still remember his vocals on Tu Me Manques and Pardon.

I’m surprised to see Kila Mbongo animating here and Abilisi dancing.

I remember Joss Diena and Rippason were left behind in Kinshasa during the concert but why? That Jose Senga is one unlucky guy; he danced in Bonjour Monsieur clip, had vocals on Mapendo, appeared in Kin clips of Yo Nani & Signature, but wouldn't add vocals on a Cultura album again until Et Apres.

If I'm not mistaken, Abillisi and Kila Mbongo would leave the group in Europe before recording Trop C'est Trop. Abillisi joined Academia when they were giving concerts in Europe, like Bozi Boziana's son (I forgot his name).

I thought that Abilssi and Kila Mbongo stayed in Europe and rejoined Extra Musica for the concert at Zenith to leave it afterwards again because of payments, since that they didn’t record the videoclip of Abilissi’s song Tu Me Manques and Kila Mbongo not appearing in the scenes they recorded in Brazzaville. That’s why I’m surprised to see them here. Abilissi didn’t join Academia on the same moment like Abel Benz, Abilissi joined months later (I don’t if he joined through Brazzaville or Paris), but his first concert in Europe was the one at LSC with Popolipo, Pitshou Concorde, Tonton Lay and co. Before trying to rejoin Extra again for the Zenith-show.

Ndeko, your theory is closest to the truth. Abillisi appears only in the generique's clip, while absence in the other clips filmed in Europe (Matongi, Sissi L'Impératrice, & Laissez Passer). Abillisi was present the majority of the European tour and performed at Palais des Sports with the group, maybe Roga Roga was blocking him from appearing in clips to slowly unsettle him. The Brazza clips are often filmed last, compromising the majority of the footage on the VHS.

795
Madilu will always be a legend, but would his career elevated to another level if he took a chance and brought his team to Europe? I know he feared they would run away, but how did Werrason and JB Mpiana manage to bring their team back to Kinshasa after multiple European tours?
