He says he originally wasn't meant to join Academia, he went to go watch them at their public rehearsal as a fan and he was only in a vest and people from his area saw him and forced him to go do a test even though it wasn't his intention to go for a test and he wasn't even thinking about becoming a musician but people would hear him sing on his own in toilets and so on. He didn't want to go on stage but the gangsters from his area made him go on the podium and said if he doesn't sing he won't leave, he sang the song Ingratitude and got a good reception from the crowd and some people who came for a test ended up leaving and he joined the group that day.
Sam and co ended up going on their African tour whilst the newly recruits him Tonton Lay, Eric Menthe, Blaise Musikasika, Pitchou Concorde, and Eric Bamba were rehearsing at Somono's house.
His first concert was when they played at Switzerland right after Bouro's departure , his dad Eveloko Lay was surprised to find him in Europe with the group and wasn't pleased with him starting music and when Evoloko was a guest at their concert in Brussels at Salle Nobles he sang with him to test him to see how high he could go in terms of notes.

He reveals they went back to Kin for the promotion of Viagra and the Kora awards but they were meant to go back to Europe for Olympia and were meant to go for a Canada tour. The reason why the Olympia concert didn't happen because of Sam and Somono having strong conflicts and them both having people telling them "You're the real leader of the group" and Somono ended up leaving, and Sam, Modogo, Mboshi went to Europe and promised they would come back soon but didn't end up returning so each member grew impatient and ended up leaving to different groups which caused Academia to collapse with Blaise Musika sika joining Maison Mere, Pitchou Concorde joining Cultura, Eric Menthe joining Bcbg and him Tonton Lay joining QL even though in the beginning he was meant to join BCBG in the beginning and indirectly hints someone in Jb's camp didn't want him.
He went to join Koffi without having a test because of Koffi wanting him and even already joined the group in Europe when he was with Academia and Koffi sent someone to get him and he went to Koffi at a hotel and he joined the group and he went to the shops to get food and ran into Sam and Sam forced him to go back to Academia and explained to Lay that Koffi only wanted him to kill the group.

He joined QL in Kin and went to see Koffi at Mont Fleury and Koffi called Fally and told him to come and Fally came and was happy to see Lay in the group. The rest of the group went to Europe for Monde Arabe and he was left behind with Brigade, Eric Tutsi, Asso, which he understood as he was still a new member and he was named Chef d'orchestre for the rest of the group in Kin and Koffi would sometimes come to Kin by himself for concerts and some other concerts in Africa leaving Fally and co in Europe. He says he left because there was a lot of jealousy in QL and some musicians would gossip to Koffi or would start saying in concerts that he or other members wouldn't come on stage. So he left and started his solo career and had Deplick in his group who also sang on his first album and Robinio failed at one of his tests and got rejected and he saw Robinio a while back who told bantered him about it and said "Ahh pres i came for a test in your group and you guys rejected me"
He says Modogo made him and Eric Menthe work hard when it came to singing and Modogo was paying them even though they weren't getting paid well. He also says he hasn't seen or spoken to his older brother in really a long time and doesn't even know where he lives in Kin (hinting they had a falling out)

It is not a revelation that Academia had to perform at Olympia in 2002. It was known by everyone, they were already mobilizing people in Europe for that, in the Viagra VHS hat used to be on youtube you see Pitshou Concorde say to shegue Face Ya Farata that he will be part of the delegation that they will bring to Olympia and journalist Serge Kayembe also talk about that. The Olympia-event end up by getting cancelled, because they weren't able to get visa's anymore, because someone snitching them about ngulu's.

Is that one of the reasons why Mustapha, Abel Benz and Beniko didn't go to kin with the rest of the group to promote Olympia in Europe and do you think if they ended up getting the Visa's that they would've also brought nearly that whole newly recruited musicians from kin who participated in 4 Coins Kandala to Olympia?

Mustapha, Silawula, Abel Benz hadn’t papers so they could not return. Beniko was not an official member was just there to help them and participate in all concerts that would be performed in Europe. When Academia returned in 2001, Somono explained in a press-conference that Beniko was waiting to get papers and get his wife and children in Europe, doing session work to survive. I don’t know if they would take the whole group, but i’m sure that they would get the atalaku “petit molangwa” the guy who animated in 4 Coins Kandala and the guy that replaced Tshe Tshe le Ball on the drums and Rocky Blanchard.

Was 4 Coins Kandala successful? I never hear much about that album like Sanction and Viagra. I guess it flopped because Academia split for good afterwards with Mboshi returning to QL and so forth.

4 Coins Kandala was acutally a bigger succes than Viagra. But they didn’t profit from it because Sam Tshintu was blocked in Europe because of the ngulu-affair.After 4 Coins Kandala they made Sexy chocolat in 2004.

I was listening to 4 Coins Kandala earlier today, Even though it was a preview for Sam's solo album I think they should've added more songs and let Modogo and Mboshi add in a couple of songs too and we could've had a chance to hear more vocals from the newly recruits, man those guys were promising. I wonder and hope if there's those rare VHS concerts of Academia in Kin in 2002 during the 4 Coins era.

talking about tonton lay it seems he insulted his older brother chou or something like that, chou does not even wants to mention his name  and gets pissed, while he mentions easily his two sisters  carine and nancy who are actress and dancer, and two brothers who are into rap
lol i liked his honesty about his number of kids  he openly said he had "only" 17 kids plus some for who the women clearly lied because they look neither like him nor like the mothers
