Every now and then I have the feeling I’ve exhausted my entire catalogue of classics/good music and have a mental block for finding good music to listen to. The feeling is compounded by the saddening lack of new releases in 2019.

Do you guys have recommendations of music you’re currently enjoying or music that may not be too known to the rest of us (I know that part is hard)

I have been switching between Fally and Fabregas as of late which is quite sad. These young guys need some sort of jolt. Because of the lack of releases, I find myself going back to old Koffi albums like Tcha Tcho du Sorcier and Koweit Rive Gauche. I finally took a listen to the Zaire 74 album to commemorate the famed Rumble In the Jungle bout. It’s refreshing to hear OK Jazz and Afrisa with modern mixing.

The new music I’m listening to is just Fally and Fabregas, other than that I’ve just been listening to Academia’s Sanction, Viagra and 4 Coins Kandala. Or Jbs Th and Internet.

Recently Sam Tshintu released a new Rhumba which is very good

Here is one old song that actually had Bozi, Kester and Koffi before they became big stars.

Matebu, try this song. It is a great song

Try Guy Guy Fall: Cote Quest. It is an older album from him from the end of the 90's, not very often mentioned, but a very good one. You can find various songs of it uploaded to Youtube and other places.

Not really really hidden gem but i think Universal Zangul's Tapis Rouge is worth a second listen in this time of limited quality releases. Been listening a lot to "Tout a coup" from that album.

Unfortunately, I feel like most music coming out of Kin that is considered ''popular'' resembles more of modern African music (Afro-house, Afro Beat etc.) It seems as though the newer artists are trying to branch out. But sometimes feeding the soul with good rhumba & sebene is missing.

30 years ago Africa was listening to Congo. Today, Congo is listening to Africa.
