He previously dragged Doudou Copa for his drinking habits. The founders of Extra despite this set aside their differences with him and reunite at funerals
Damien Aziwa has some decent albums. I listened to his other albums, but not this one.. it might’ve just gotten to streaming platforms. Nice album, good sound, and you can tell Titina did his strict tuning on the drums - very tight in the manner he does best.
JB gave an unusual amount of space to BCBG members to participate as session musicians for other artists. Phillpe Guez, Nyboma, Guy Nsangue, and Ballou Canta also participated.
Maybe it’s just me, but I love stumbling upon albums from the peak era that I haven’t heard before. Everyone was on their A game back then.
I just got my copy in the mail. This is the worst CD packet I’ve seen… I’m not sure if Fally himself was involved here. Just a bunch of pictures, no text/context, and very hard to read the text.
I bought the album for nostalgia purposes since i still have PTSD of not buying rare albums I used to see sitting cheap in record shops, before digital media took them all out of business. I expected something much better than this.
Apparently he composed, sung, and played all instruments on the 4 albums because there are no credits at all for anyone in F’Victeam, studio personnel, and sessions artists. I dont even know what studio it was recorded in (Grand Armée probably).
We are hearing royalty complaints from the ex-members of QL, WMM, etc, but at least those guys got some credits for their participation. In the future, ex F’Victeam members will have some pain as they don’t have any credits to fight a case in the first place.
This was a great concert. The last great Olympia concert after Kester’s (RIP). I remember watching this all the time back when it was originally uploaded on YT at the time. Higher energy is the crowd was very engaged.
The success of this concert had Koffi PISSED at the time with him not being to do much with the Cultura members he poached and his downturn at the time with all the legal issues and escape from Europe as a result
As time passes, @CM Prince and @JV I agree with you guys that Wazekwa’s choreographies are enough to piss someone off. Too complicated for no reason. At a party you would look like a fool doing the same dances
An all-star team lineup that could match up with anyone past or present:
My favorite post Bercy Koffi concert was LSC Christmas 2002. The chemistry this team had during the Effrakata to ADE period was magical - the success of Effrakata gave them so much momentum and confidence. Sometimes in the smaller venue concerts you get a better sense of the raw talent of a band
816 or so songs potentially bought by a large American label. Even songs he wrote for others aside from Wemba.
This is pretty unheard of in African music…. with all the nasty rights inheritance and royalty drama from deceased musicians families in the genre, this seems rather ingenious if he gets the right price.
If this goes through it will pave the way for artists on the legendary status
My thoughts… - Huge guaranteed payday now for 50 years of music instead of collecting royalties bit by bit which has everyone not making much money off just streaming.
- The buyer can monetize the catalog globally through streaming, licensing, sampling and better royalty collection.
- Much easier for Koffi’s estate than inheriting rights to 800+ songs from multiple labels he was with in his career. Some don’t even exist anymore.
- Risk is he still getting more listeners even at his age with more streaming reach and old song going viral from time to time. Maybe the catalog becomes worth multiples more but this may take decades.
- I can foresee a bunch of ghostwriters coming out of the woodwork to contest ownership if they wrote songs claimed as his.
This chap is excellent in all his posts. This is what you get when you have great raw talent, but you study every lick and riff extremely well. Alvarito was so intricate that even his successors in F’Victeam had some troubles matching in concerts
That period he had that SUPER hunger ethic and stood a step above what was already a loaded QL lineup. Superb vocals technique and pure talent throughout the album. By this time we knew that he was next man up
He sings good now still, but I tend to think he no longer puts too much effort, and we see him sometimes using autotune. Some of his young fans aren’t familiar with this period. Some can say age, but Koffi himself optimized his singing and adapted in his 40’s to extend his prime
The guys really went through all the motions of their music together… Flash Musica, Quartier Latin, Academia, Black Bazar, and usually together performing at the regular weekend concerts https://www.facebook.com/share/r/18CHPHsBby/?mibextid=wwXIfr
He had the makings to be a star when he was in EM Zangul as the voice of the band for a time and after he left Extra, but marital, legal, and health issues robbed him of the chance. I don’t think at this point he should try to revive his musical career
