Sucks for JB and BCBG; a plus for Patou.  Christian music is taking over and as it should!! It sounds 20 times better than what the secular artists are spewing to the fans.

papa simaro is not rich, but he is not poor either

Exactly.  Simaro may not be able to buy a Bentley and have it imported from Europe, but he's pretty well off and very well taken care of.  He has a nice home not too far from my aunt's house in the heart of Kinshasa.

It's a shame that Diego music waited so long to release his album.  They started promoting it a year ago, and just released it in April.  Ndombe's album has been finished since before he death in 2012 and we're still waiting for the producers to release it.  It's pathetic.

I wanted to get the digital download but realised I will not have the first track, this is nonsense. Why don't they release all the songs for digital download, what's the point of buying an incomplete album. This is what has caused me not to buy other albums I need by Doudou Copa(Menu) and Patrouille Des Stars(Kanga Nzoto) which each have a couple of songs or so not available as digital download so what's the point really, best to order full albums and wait for them in the post.

I don't understand, the only offered you a few songs? I downloaded the whole album with no problem.

This album is remarkable. Few slow Rhumbas and more dancing. Dancing is what the genre is most famous for. The generique was well crafted, taking some of the greatest hits from OK Jazz and Bana OK along with an ode to Josky, taking 17 minutes of pure euphoria and nostalgia. Aside from Karmapa's latest album, this is the best album to come out this year in my opinion. Far way better than his last effort Salle D'attente

Just when I began to lose hope with the music coming out of Kinshasa these days, this man always delivers and saves the day...

Now if only they would release Pepe Ndombe's posthumous album, Tendresse, all will be well in the world.

Congolese Music / Re: CHIKITO RECEIVES A CAR FROM FERRE
« on: May 18, 2014, 23:31 »
This has got to be a joke! These artists are riding around in BMWs & Mercedes and he gives him a Chrysler Crossfire, that has been out of production for 6 years?? Personally, I think it's an insult. These guys work their asses off for their bosses and get scraps in return.
I don't think it's an insult, this is a decent car to give a 20 year old lad by a boss. The boy gets wages and bonuses on top of that. It is also because of his being in Ferre's band that Ferre's associates have also sent the boy a decent Audi which he's had prior to this Chrysler.

If you see the photos of congolese musicians on their facebook pages or when you see them in interviews on youtube at their residences, most drive very old cheap cars for instance BCBG drummer had a very cheap Chrysler till recently when he was given a Range Rover Sport by JB Mpiana.

Give me an Audi, I can dig it. A car that's worth only 12,000USD in excellent condition, that's liable to break down soon, and I'm your top star, I have an issue with.  The kid has been apart of his band for 7 years and has been loyal.  At least give him a car with less years that's still in the market.

When was this, how come Malage is failing to sing and he doesn't seem to be alright on stage, hope all is well. On facebook photos he looks alright from his base in Belgium.

He's been in Belgium?
Yes,he's always been in Belgium, been there for many years now infact most surviving TPOK Jazz members are Europe based including Josky Kiambukuta who has been struggling with medical problems, only a few remain in Congo like Le Poete Lutumba Simaro.

I thought Josky was back in Kin.  A few years ago, I visited Lutumba at his home, and he seemed to be in excellent health.  His doctor happens to be a distant cousin of mine.  It amazes me how he's outlasting guys who came into the group after him.

A song that helped propel him to higher heights in OK Jazz, yet during a "tribute" concert to Franco, Malage straight jacks it up.  Not sure if he was tired or drunk, but this was hard to watch. Position your cursor into 1:09 to watch the set. Also, I'm not sure if the title of the video is correct. I can't tell if it was a joint concert between members of Zaiko & Bana OK in Hommage of Franco or an official Bana OK concert featuring Zaiko as I didn't Simaro or Nyoka Longo anywhere in the video.

Koffi is an old idiot. Instead of setting the precedent of doing away with poisonous venom of Mabanga, he continues to capitalize on it. Mabanba will be the final nail in the coffin of the genre. It's fucking pathetic.
...Tata how much do you think Luambo got for this ;) ;D...

I'm glad that although I'm still fresh on this board, folks who know me, knows that I'm a die hard Franco fan.  Franco kept it about the music.  He wasn't talking throughout an entire track.

Moving on, for starters, let's stop riding Koffi's dick and let that self proclaimed diva do it.  If you think that mabanga is what makes good Zairean music than you're delusional.  Back in the day, if you're a real follower of the genre, what made the artists fruitful were Europeans or white people. White people no longer have an interest in the product because 1) The lack of sebenes 2) Too many dedications and mabanga. Somebody should've whooped Werrason's ass for poisoning Koyimbi Ko with his endless gibberish and someone should tell Koffi he no longer has the juice, he's holding on to his past successes that he can't get back.

I guarantee you, and I will bet my year's salary (I make a shitload of money), that if one artist took their own money and produced an album with no mabanga and more sebenes over rhumbas.  The white folks will jump on the bandwagon again.

Congolese Music / Old School Alert: Tribute to Tabu Ley
« on: December 23, 2013, 02:26 »
Hey old friends. Just wanted to share an interesting video of older generation starts paying tribute to the iconic Tabu Ley. Verckys, Faya Tess, Djuna Djanana, Josky and others are in the video. It's a very sad realization to note though that Simaro, who lives in Kin and well into his 70s, is in better shape than Josky who is younger and staying in Europe. In the video you see Josky sitting down the entire time and his speech is slurred at times. Anyway, enjoy the clip.

Congolese Music / Likinga Redo ya Zaïko akufaki?
« on: August 09, 2013, 02:53 »
Greetings old and new friends.  It's messed up that we have to start all over because of some fucked up bullshit, but I digress... Anyways... I have been receiving reports that Likinga Redo of Zaïko Langa Langa has passed away. Can anyone confirm or deny these reports? Archos?
