FROM DAY ONE TO  ALBUM MULOLO

in july 1981 in the quarter of bandalungwa(bandal),didier masela who came back to kinshasa( he was at boarding school in the small city of mbanza boma) and aimé buanga develop idea of playing music together, joined few days later by noel ngiama and alain mwanga
noel ngiama"werrason" brought with them his brother ladins montana and cousin mashiro kifaya, and towards the end of the year singer jean luvutula joins them and shortly after introduces to noel ngiama his schoolmate jean bedel tshituka mpiana who takes with him another school mate, rhythm guitarist christian zitu, joined few days later by evo nsiona on mbonda
singers anicet panzu "anibo" and dédé masolo arrive in december and two weeks later blaise bula is introduced to other guys by jean bedel mpiana
werrason, didier masela,jb mpiana, alain makaba and alain mwanga are all considered  co-founders of the group
in the same year of 1982 adolphe ebondja starts approaching the group through his classmate jean bedel mpiana but is not regular with them as he is closer to defao matumona, another singer bienvenue wes koka arrives aswell as drummer maradona lontomba
all were still at high school and were only rehearsing together during holidays, some were even missing because their parents were not allowing them to rehearse as they thought it would disturb them from school
their first "concert" as a group of friends was at bar olympia in bandal during holidays 82 and then all of them went back to school
in 1983 1984 they start performing a bit more and they interpret mainly victoria eleison and viva la musica songs
the name of wenge musica came from  football team of bandal named wenge and musica inspired by viva la musica
at that time the presidents of the group were not group members,in fact the two first presidents of wenge were their donors papy kimbi and mavo voka
in 1985 the group edges closer to professionalism as they start performing at beginning of viva la musica, empire bakuba, victoria eleison concerts
their main rivals as "quarter groups" at that time were dakumuda and lavignora esthetique, boguys bompema and super lemba, pascal poba and les fleurons, marie paul and maitre ficarré in litonge bouge, ricoco bulambemba and blaise kombo with group il fallait kaka and so on
they start singing their own songs like kin e bouger version 1 and ginette of jb mpiana, laura of blaise bula, bebe of zing zong, cesarine of werrason and many others
adolphe ebondja"dominguez" becomes a bit more regular with the group but then their status of students influence the structure of group,as himself adolphe, zing zong, christian zitu and aimé buanga are sent to europe by their parents
dédé masolo "deno star" leaves the group and becomes a pastor
with support of older guys around them like mbuta kiss kisolokele, kija brown werra's cousin, eliott mondobe jb mpiana's private photographer....the group plans a first album and meanwhile a young singer alain mpela tshwakulenda is spotted by werrason in the quarter of kingasani(not to be confused with the city of kisangani) where he was on holidays( he is basically from matete)
alain mpela was singing songs of victoria eleison especially the song ngabelo which he was singing at the very moment werra spotted him
in the same year drummer pipo, rhythm guitarist djolina mandudila arrive in the group, aswell as mi soloist blaise kombo and bassist eddy kandimbo
during summer 1987,singers marie paul kambulu  and towards the end of year jean baptise mileya aka manda chante become group members but are in reserve team
eddy  kandimbo leaves the group in early 1988 replaced by christian mwepu mabanga who arrives in the group a month after his elder brother alain mwepu who became alain makaba's back-up soloist
the group prepare recording of first album in studio bobongo and  this is how for the first time the group  has a president who is a band member
in fact during 1988, the 4 remaining co-founders of the group werrason, alain makaba, didier masela and jb mpiana respectively become financial director, artistic director, founder and administrator and president
they pick 4 songs for their first album and blaise bula is unhappy as his song is not picked( 3 songs being allowed to new president jb mpiana and one to artistic director alain makaba)
blaise misses most of the recording sessions at studio bobongo and is replaced by young alain mpela who is installed on a bottle rack to sing because he was too small to reach the height of microphones but towards the end  blaise accepts participating
album is a great success and  wenge musica's reputation becomes much bigger than former rival groups especially dakumuda's laviniora which was seen as more promising

FROM CHURCH AND ANIMATION IN FUNERALS TO EXTRA MUSICA

in late 1980's most of the future founders of extra musica meet each other in choirs of church sainte therese of quarter ouenzé manzanza in brazzaville but some knew each other since early years of childhood like durell loemba and giscar ngolali aka ramatoulay who were classmates and sat next to each other during most of their school years
rogatien ibambi okombi aka roga roga and esperance mouanda aka espe bass who were also classmates in another school
the two first guys to play music outside church were  quentin moyascko who had a group in street in the quarter of talangai and roga roga who was member of tradi-modern group of roi bongol  le grand mumboshi alongside members like papy bombé( who we will later know as papy kakol),jules kibens and so on
in 1992, quentin moyascko invites friends from church sylvain mbon aka oxygene, espe bass, roga roga, ramatoulaye, christian ambé,guy guy fall, ghislain mazikou aka kila mbongo, aswell as mi-soloist mboungou saint petro  in the group of a  company called cogiex( the group is then called cogiex musica)
they start performing in funerals and small bars, interpreting songs of zaiko, wenge musica, empire bakuba and so on but also rehearsing songs mainly composed by quentin moyasco who was the oldest of them all until one day they meet ferreol gassackys who becomes their manager and motivates them to form a more professional group
quentin, kila, roga roga, espe bass, durell, guy guy fall are the co-founders of extra musica
the name extra musica comes from roga roga based on the fact they were hailed as being extraordinary during the days they were performing in funerals
they then start preparing their first album which will be released two years later

archos would you clarify the time when Alain Makaba came in because as it is in this script he is not well mentioned during the inception time. I also read  that Aime Bwanga  was the second person in the group but later his involvement is not captured well as he was not among those later to be called leaders. what was the circumstance that led to Marie Paul joining the reserve of Wenge if he is said to be one of the competitors of wenge during their first years? Thank you for the info.

the name kakol came from the streets, they were some sort of sportsmen who were impressing people whenever they were in streets( i dont remember if they had a link with army though)
but if you listen to the song surprise kapangala by werrason you'll hear jb saying "generation des kakol"( wenge musica members were considering themselves as kakol)
then papy also took that name  slightly before joining maison mere

Thank you for the info.

makaba was in from the beginning because he was with didier who announced him idea of group creation to play music during holidays
the first time they rehearsed together at didier's home it was makaba on lead, werrason on rhythm and masela himself on bass
aimé bwanga's name is not really mentioned in the parts wenge gets a bit a recognition for the simple reason, that there is zero image on him in a concert he went in europe  when they still at school(masela, makaba same school, and jb,werra also in another school together for example)
when marie paul joined wenge they were already becoming bigger than all the rest,he had a good friend in wenge who is jb mpiana  and also knew werra, and didier masela as they were neighbours in bandal, and also both groups had same donors so it was easy to get marie paul into wenge,if you notice well except the groups of dakumuda, boguys bompema and pascal poba, the rest of leaders ended up in wenge musica
