I wish they would give it a rest with these world albums. Nobody wants em. Not the people in Kin not the people in london brussel paris. World albums from african artist rarely work and when they do they never captivate the grassroots fans. When has this technique ever worked??? Thank god Koffi never had a world music period and because of it has the best catalogue to this day. Those world album really dilute your discography.

Did that technique work for Papa wemba ? Did he really need that? Or was he still gonna be famous is europe without those albums.

If anybody is on FERRE’s staff please tell him to abort mission on the world album. The boy’s catalogue is a sans faute so far it’d be a shame

Congolese Music / Re: EXTRA MUSICA ZENITH 2001
« on: March 06, 2021, 04:01 »
Well said Archos.

For me its not so much about whether Extra Musica  was "better" than Wenge Musica because I know that's highly debatable and I personally don't agree with that assession. But to say that not a lot of people know any Extra Musica songs or to say they are overated is being biased as well as being economical with the truth.  Like I said the only reason perhaps many Kinshasa people don't highly rate Extra Musica is because they are not Kin based and are seen as Wenge copy cats. I believe if Extra Musica was a Kinshasa group, we wouldn't be having this conversation.

100% agree. If Extra Musica was from Bandal or Yolo i think they would have gave Wenge 4x4 a run for their money. The thing is that the kinshasa public is very tough with non-kin based groups thats why a lot of groups from kin based in europe struggled a lot and thats why theres no major groups from any other cities but kin. Very tough public

Congolese Music / Maitre Gims Documentary
« on: September 27, 2020, 02:05 »
Just finished the netflix documentary on Maitre Gims. It gave me a lot of insight on the person that he is. In the documentary it said that Djuna Djunana was close to
The Mobutu regime in the 70s and 80s but did a song against the regime in 88 and therefore had to runaway to France with his family. Has anyone ever heard that before or does anyone know what that song might be. Also I was surprised to find out that Maitre Gims was homeless in Paris during his late teens and his father that lived in the same city had no idea. That shocked me and really pierced my heart. While his dad was playing the perfect dad with his other wife his mother was struggling

Congolese Music / Under the radar albums
« on: August 16, 2020, 04:04 »
We all know of the more famous albums from the more famous members or ex-members of our beloved groups. Wanted to highlight those albums that go under the radar maybe due to the fact they didnt get enough promotion or the timing at which they came out.

Manda Chante with the album “Je suis” that came out in 2016. Never heard of this album until I randomly fumbled on it. First few songs are okay but the album really hits another dimension starting with Comme Toujours. The following song Socrate is for me the highlight of that album and is followed by 3-4 great songs. All in all I believe it is a very successful album musically speaking.

Also wanted to speak about Celeo Scram with the album “Ici c’est Paris”. I dont remember hearing about it at the time it came out but randomly stumbled upon that one as well and was PLEASANTLY surprised. My favorite songs on there are Wenze ya Minzemba, Amour Chinois and Ambulance.

What are some underground or under the radar albums you guys would recommend ?
