The greatest Songwriter in Congolese music

107
Do Akongo is undoubtedly one of the best songwriters that Quarter Latin has had (writing classics such as Coucou, Kot-Kot, Spaghetti, Automate, Avion, Fois Cent, Sens Inverse). I know he co-wrote SOS with Koffi, I'm curious to know what other songs he co-wrote in Koffi's solo albums.

Koffi's bad heartedness never fails to astound me

Congolese Music / Ranking songwriters in Congolese music
« on: April 04, 2024, 14:24 »
We talk a lot about singers and singing in Congolese music, almost as if it is everything in music. Rarely does songwriting have a shine equal to that of singing. The discussion is always about who's the better singer (eg. Ferre sings better than Fally, Papa Wemba sang better than Koffi, Tabu Ley sang better than Franco). I am curious to know who you guys consider as prolific and high level songwriters in our music in order.

110
Indeed, from him we have writers like Felix Wazekwa, Koffi was also inspired by some of his works (Ebale ya Zaire inspired him to write Ngobila, Femme Noire, Doless, Bambino). An endless inspiration for aspiring guitarists and songwriters.

111
Is Grand-pere Bozi trying to use Fally's notoriety as a ladder from irrelevance? I don't like how the older guys in our music never want to put the mic down.

112
Tcha-Tcho has become such a dominant rhythm in Congolese music that the Fiesta and Odemba seem too different today if someone tries it.

113

The late Nene Tchakou also worked with Koffi during the Papa Bonheur album. Said Koffi is a talented guitarist. He played rhythm in Viva La Musica in the 70's...also played rhythm in many albums he released in the 80's along with Rigo Star.

Wait, so not only did Koffi give Papa Wemba Ebale Mbonge, Mere Superieure, Aissa na Zoe, Fleur Betoko, Muana Molokai, Ekoti ya Nzube ect. but was also his rhythm guitarist??

There is no denying that what Congolese artists today call Rumba is simply the Tcha-Tcho Koffi Olomide. Apart from maybe Karmapa, all the artists have adopted that style. Prior to Koffi to the scene and in most of his early career, Odemba and Fiesta seemed to dominate. Koffi being the great guitarist that he is and working with other great guitarists like Popolipo and Rigo Star gradually imposed the Tcha-Tcho sound. Prior to these three guitarists, we never really heard that. This is what I believe, what do you guys think?

115
Who wrote this song?

116
yes he does even play in his albums,he can play rhythm lead and bass
his ex-friend soloist beniko popolipo even says that for him he is a better guitarist than singer

Wow, so Koffi is essentially a complete musician coupled with songwriting skills.

117
For a bit of context, I myself am a guitarist and I've watching videos of Koffi playing. He is surprisingly a solid rhythmic guitarist. Did anyone else know this?

Felix Wazekwa should have stuck to being a songwriter

119
I have noticed that the lyrical and musical compositions have dropped as of late. Everyone is basically singing a different version of the same storyline in terms of songwriting. This begs me to wonder if the big songwriters like Eldorado, Pascal Poba, Do Akongo still sell their songs to the artists.

It's tiring listening to these songs because they're all about the same topic (love) and lyrics are almost rephrases of each other.
