Congolese Music / Re: Extra Musica Nostalgia
« on: July 21, 2020, 21:35 »

Why didn't Regis Touba participate in Ouragan? If I recall, he tried to join Wenge BCBG but I'm not sure if that's true. Was this before Extra Musica International or after Z1 International?

He was left behind in Brazzaville, because he had exams. Extra Musica was then on tour in West-Africa, then suddenly the war started in Brazzaville, which made it impossible to return. They spent some weeks in Guinee and their manager Ferreol Gassakys trying to get visa for them to get in Europe. They came with that team to Europe (without Regis Touba who was then one of te keymembers and Sonor Digital who used to Espe’s back on the bass-guitar). After recording Ouragan and a few concerts in Europe, they returned and not long later after that Extra Musica split with Regis then choosing Quetin’s side.

Nkosi Wa Nkosi is Pecos's nickname. It was Theo Mbala who animated on Suke Chille's album.

Felix Wazekwa has a big catalogue, but ask random people to sing atleast 3 songs of Wazekwa, they won't know. Most people only knows his generiques.

That's true. And he has good messages in his songs and proverbs.

But he's overlooked by most people. Maybe it's because they thought he was like a Koffi copy cat or that he's not that great at singing. I don't know but they just don't appreciate him like that. He fought hard to get up there but it's his generiques people go on about but he has a lot of good rumba songs.

I just don't know what the problem is.

But for someone like Werra  it's just unacceptable. I feel like he could've done more with his catalogue. That's why it's shocking when I'm viewing his catalogue and you WOULDNT really even discuss Werra's catalogue after temoinage. Might name one more album after temoinage but ahh it's just fascinating analysing this

Apart Kito Epula, Respect and the rumba's of Wazekwa's second album Pauvre Mais (Bokono & Mi-Corazon), I don't like his rumba's, the rhythm doesn't touch me, espcially when it are those programmed rumba's. But I like his sebene-songs, songs like Meme Pas Mal, Grand A, Ah Ngai, Mpangi, Jean Bady, Debo, Vidal, Complexe, Bonjour Monsieur, Sponsor and Obengisi Ngai.

Werrason kept postponing the release of his 3th solo album Arche de Noe, which had normally to come after Temps Present. When they came for Zenith '08, they even started the programmation of some songs, planning an 18 track album. The album had first not a name, then when he abandoned the worldmusic album project which had that name, he gave that album Arche de Noe as title. Werrason changed his mind after Temps Present and wanted to release Malewa, then he changed his mind once and came with Flesh Ingeta, until that the project got totally forgotten.

JB Mpiana could released Chemin de Fer along time ago, which when they were preparing for Bercy planned for 2002. Archos even started a thread about it, about the original tracklist of 14 songs which they recorded in 2002. Like Werrason, he kept postponing it, mostly due to those visa-problems. With a few songs ending up in groups albums like Anti Terro, Soyons Serieux and Quel est ton Probleme, but the text being modified. JB Mpiana was the closest to release the album in 2005 and 2011. In 2005 they had recorded a big part in Kinshasa and almost finished, but guys like Pathy Moleso said that it was better to record the album in Europe, so they started with Kipe Ya Yo and waiting to get the visa-problems solved. In 2011, he wanted to release it after Soyons Serieux, but against all exceptions, the album not really well received. So it made JB doubting, which made him come with the Ball de Match-project of 3 songs in 2012 (many people don't know that he was about to name the Kipe Ya Yo-project like that before changing the title in Ball de Match), until that it came with the years a double album. JB Mpiana had know more than 60+ unreleased songs. He able to release 3/4 solo-albums. I remember him saying in 2015, that after Ball de Match, he will release 3 albums in the row (but that will never happen lol).  Many people mock him that he didn't release Chemin de Fer, because he didn't had the inspiration anymore, but according to the few who had the chance to hear a few songs of the 2005-version, say that it is of high level and better than T.H.

Here’s the clip from Palpitation but not in good quality.

Why did Theo leave Big Stars for Anti Choc?

He got suspended for 6 months because of indiscipline, he couldn't  support to stay at home long so long, which made him leave for Anti Choc. Before joining Anti Choc, rumors were spread that he said that Big Stars is nothing (could also be that Defao's staff created that story to make him mad, since that Theo was one of his favorites), because they weren't touring in Europe, which angered Defao. That's why when Pecos joined, Defao brought him immediatly to Paris for the mixing of La Guerre de 100 Ans, to prove Theo Mbala a point.

( with Mboka liya )

Is it Nouvelle Generation Aile Kin or Cours des Grands ?

Lidjo with Kester ( 36min )

That’s Lidjo’s own band Cour des Grands.

3878
So Maray Maray was Kinshasa at that time somewhere in 95-96? I thought he was in Europe.

He made  trips there and met then Lidjo who didn’t want to go out (because of the way they deported him). He gave then Lidjo Kwempa the idea to form a Nouvelle Generation aile Kinshasa teaming up with Jadot le Cambodgien, since that they had some success there, having also sent those videos he made with Lidjo & Maray Maray in Switzerland. They had some successful concerts in Kinshasa and went also to Tshikapa & Mubji Mayi. It made the late Fafa de Molokaï, Luciana Demingongo and co mad, but they couldn’t do anything, because Lidjo was one of the co-founders.
But the band didn’t last even 6 months, because of leadership.

3879
I hope that he won't get problems today during the tribute-concert they will  give for Fafa de Molokai (because in this interview he attacked him twice).

Many Kester-fanatics won't be happy about the way lower Emeneya, by saying that Emeneya did the fara-fara concert with Nouvelle Generation, because of not being able to pay the rent of his house in Paris (which is partly true), saying he was more popular than the kester of Viva during his time in Viva (which isn't true, because Emeneya was more influentful and more succesful than Lidjo in Viva). But the stuff what he said about the songs Emeneya sung, is true, most songs Emeneya made in Victoria Eleison (1982-1986) and Viva La Musica, were songs he used to sing in Kikwit along with Lidjo, Kito Dembela and Joly Mubiala. Many people from Kikwit of that era know that and back during the Viva vs Victoria rivalery of the 80s, Viva fanatics would claim that Lidjo was better than Emeneya, claiming that all hits Emeneya sung were those of Lidjo. But those who will react angry later in videos, will be mostly those who are born in the 80s, not knowing alot of Emeneya's story in Kikwit and the Viva-Victoria rivalery, only hanging with Emeneya. Stino also sung songs of Anges Noires, some songs are really old, for example the song Mista. Mista is an old that Paul Ndombe (father of Baby Ndombe) used to sing in Kwikit before joining Tabu Ley's band in the late 60s.

Lidjo was a little bit right about what he said, because when Viva came to Europe in 1987, they were really down and broke (they had to pay the flighttickets back), performing barely. It's only Reddy's Ep Zakina, that was saving them a little bit. Then when he came Bozi, being joined later by Awilo who came on his own and Stino Mubi. They started to get succes with Modogo's albums Jour J, Place Vendome & Ba Venants, the one of Ping Pong (most songs being written by him, but not the song le Jour J de l'Histoire Romaine) and Stino's Femme Sans Bijoux and Reddy's Queen Lina. But Lidjo wasn't the main star like in Kinshasa, despite contributing alot behind the scenes. The main stars were Reddy Amisi & Stino Mubi, being later joined Joly Mubiala who released the album Cadeau d'Amitie.

Lol, Lidjo was close to reveal that Richacha became sick, because of Awilo who wanted to take his place, which why he stayed behind in Kinshasa when they went to Europe and Japan. But karma would hit Awilo, because he was left behind in 1987. Lidjo forgot, the Viva-members were present (including Djanana, Gloria and Joly) when during the rehearshal that made them create la Nouvelle Generation, the only guys who weren't present were Reddy Amisi and Jose Fataki.

So Gloria, Stino left in 1998 to form their own band Cour des Grand along with Lidjo who came freshly from Kinshasa ? I remember Lidjo having released an album with the same name, being produced by his Japanese friends. The same Japanese guys released Emeneya's live album of Japan in 1993 and his remix album of 1991. I remember them following Emeneya in the 90s for interviews and Lidjo Kwempa during the US-tour he made in 2001 with Viva La Musica Cour-des Grands.

I didn't how Ado cut him down, when he was about to talk the fara-fara Nouvelle Genration made against King Kester Emeneya in 1994. Also Lidjo forgot to talk about his time in Kinshasa, when he teamed up with Maray Maray and Jadot Le Cambodgien, creating a Nouvelle Generation Aile Kinshasa version, which had some succes there.

Lidjo Kwempa needs to sit he is too agitated  ;D

Beside of having used some drugs (which mades artists sometimes saying uncontrollable stuff during interviews, Gloria and the late Bipoli for example), I think because of the way people used to attack him the last years in concerts who were made to pay a tribute to Papa Wemba (I remember him once saying that he won't perform anymore with former Viva-members and talk about Viva in interviews because of that), calling him a traitor for having recorded Porokondo (forgetting that he was after that part of the Cour des Grand team, performing at Zenith and Bercy and participating to the Bakala Dia Kuba-album), saying also that he had done nothing for Viva La Musica (while he defended the time that they were in war against Victoria Eleison with the songs Ceci Cela, Muzingile, Dipanda, Mystique and Lissiki and giving songs to his boss Wemba). Another thing that made him furious, is the way how Reddy attacked him indirectly, he's one of the people who were talking bad about him to Wemba, whcich made Wemba left him behind in Kinshasa along with Stella Uomo and Gathier Mukoka in 1987 because of Jadot & Reddy (karma would hit Jadot very hard). He was also left behind for the long 1985-86 8months tour of Europe that brought them on the end to Japan, but Godart Motemona bought a ticket for him, since that he organised the tour and people waiting for him Europe, because he was then the biggest start of Viva and couldn't miss.

But in other interviews like for example the one he made with Papy Gene two years ago, he was very calm.

What about those JB & Werra record attendence at Stade des Martyrs, were it really 250.000 spectators ? Or was it just around the 120.000-150.000 ? Because Stade des Martyrs only has a capacity of 80.000 for matches, 120.000 coming when you have matches like Vita vs Imana (which is possible, because the stadium doesn't have seats) and in most concerts of stadiums when they add the lawn of the stadium for specators, it mostly adds only 1/4 of places of the stadiums capacity.

3882
It was after they recorded Témoignage in Europe.

Temoignage wasn’t finished yet. Sec Bidens wasn’t happy the way Bonbon Kojack and co were singing. They went to finish Temoinage in november 2005, re-recording the album in live format and adding new animations like Werra Champion, Ilo-Zapata, Kisanola, Beta Masasi, etc.

3883
Back in the days just after that Werrason signed with Primus, he went to give his first Primus-concert in Kikwit, coming freshly from Europe with his band after a 6 month-long tour. After having performed there, the press claimed that more than 700.000 people came over to watch his concert. Is that true or did they just to boost the event ? Because back in 2005, Kikwit didn't had more than 250.000 people over there.

3884

I had already a feeling that him or Stino would come after Reddy.

Being a younger, I've had no idea that El Paris was that big back in the 90s. I knew they were successful, but I didn't think they had crazy success. No way this band deserves to be slept on.

El Paris had crazy succes in the 90s. They had done things that Wenge 4x4 never had done which is performing at stadiums. They performed 4/6 times at Stade de 20 Mai (1994, 1996, 1997, 1999) and they set a record crowd at l'Esplanade de Palais du Peuple (more than 120.000 spectators) in 1997 which made pastors and bandleaders the desire to also perform there. The way people were following Werrason in his prime-time, that's the way how people used to follow Marie Paul from 1992 to 1999 (screaming Roi Soleil, Roi Pele, Roi Soleil). Marie Paul was able to steal crowds of Wenge 4x4 by witchcraft, by coming with a soccerball to their concert and suddenly all people following him and Wenge 4x4 staying behind without crowd. That's why JB, Werra and co were mad at him. The problem is that all that fame was never promoted in Europe and they had a bad management when they got abandoned by Kongolo Mobutu. For example the famous concert at Palais du Peuple got never officialy released on VHS in Europe. They only released his concert at Stade de 20 Mai of 1999, when his succes started to go down (the audio version is on youtube).
