Why Mogratana was that underrated by Werra? he was not given the number one spot after the departure of Kapaya, was he not creative enough?
Thierry Mogratana became the lead-guitarist of Wenge Maison Mere after Flamme's departure. You can see him play the most on those concerts they made in Kinshasa after the Europe-tour (Masina, Fikin, Ghk, etc.) and Christian Solo not playing alot (he came from Operation Dragon and had to work like a understudy for Mogratana), then after a few months Maison Mere came for a festival (somewhere in sept 07) and Thierry Mogratana who came as only solist decided to stay in France to get papers (I remember him getting married to a French woman and him posting pictures of her on his old skyblog and later facebook). Christian Solo who stayed behind in Kinshasa took automatically the number one spot as lead guitarist and got presented in Masina. They started to re-record a big part of Mayi ya Sika (erasing most parts of Flamme Kapaya and deleting songs of members who left) and the new generique that we all know in Kinshasa at Studio Ndiaye. Thierry Mogratana rejoined when they were about to perform at Zenith 2008 and came back in 2009 with that double-neck guitare called Jesus-Christ (just to counter his rival Flamme Kapaya who came with Madame Jacqueline), but it was difficult for him to get his place back, because Christian Solo really cemented on that position. Later on Maison Mere came to Europe to mix Techno Malewa volume 1 (the trip where Koffi tried to block them and Kakol then insulting him on tv, calling him 'Coco Ntiri-tiri') and Christian Solo ran away during that trip (the guy who promised to WMM to never do that), Thierry Mogratana could profit from that moment to get his position, but he had to stay to short some things of his papers out (Werrason and staff though that he also left), which made them decided to put the young Bob Solo on that position and get Kimbangu Solo (called Luxembourg at that time, he was in Bill Clinton's band) & Rodriguez Solo (he came from Celeo's band) and let them battle at La Zamba Playa (that video is or was on YouTube, but I can't it). Kimbangu end up by winning the battle and the presented him along with Bob Solo in Masina. Mogratana can play agrresive like Flamme, but never got enough space to show his talents.
Although the question was not directed to me, but I think christian Bombole tried a bit, Kimbangu was also good but didn't create anything notable. Kapaya was Kapaya.
is he working as a session guitarist, Most of the top Congolese guitarists are now based in Europe, what are they all doing? Makaba, Mboka Liya, Japonaise, Kapaya Flam, Christian solo, Bob Solo, just to mention the few. I do remember in the 90s soloists like Dally Kimono, Diblo, Nene Tchakou, Beniko, Saladin and later Cahen Madoka were featuring in most songs for not only Congolese Musicians but West Africa as well. Is this still the case?

Is this still the case?Japonais & Makaba are in Kinshasa, Japonais recently joined Heritier's band. Christian Solo works with European based gospel artists, Flamme Kapaya is now a brother in christ and Mboka Liya lives in London and works with London based Congolese artists and often performs in restaurants, bars & churches. Guys like Michel Bass, Jean Louis Bikunda, Caien Madoka and co are often featered in albums of Congolese artists (Fabregas, Heritier, Ferre and co) and some coming from Ivory Coast & Cameroun, because the musicians of today living in Africa don't really have that artistic maturity. The impact is less, because most songs are with the acoustic guitars or programmed keyboards and not that live-music that we used to hear in the past.
