What made it that Papa Wemba was the one that become the most succesful BY FAR out of the whole Zaiko clan. When listening to old Zaiko songs when he was a part, can you tell that he was destined for greatness? I just got done listening to Isifi Lokole and idk. A lot of times with stars you can tell very early on like “this one... we gotta watch out for this one he’s gonna be something” Now I know we’re young but Zaiko was our parents generation, have yall ever heard any stories of yall parents speaking on the early Zaiko craze?

Do people in Kinshasa listen to music from the other side at all? I understand we might be “different” but we share some of the same taste in music so I was curious as to if the youth of Kin listened to coupe decale from brazza as its whats hot right now on our side, although most would think we’re big roga roga fans Did people from kin listen to Fumba Mwela and L’arraigné at all at their peak or not really? And does the Kin diaspora listen to any of that at weddings in europe/states at all?

Has anyone done any songs pertaining to the conflicts back home? I see a lot of diaspora always raising awareness on the fact but havent seen any songs lately pertaining to the conflicts in Kasai or East congo. Do we have any artists back home that have done songs on those topics in the last few years? And if there are none is it for political reasons or could it be something else?

This might have been brought up already Im sure but in the same lane as Get Rich or Die Trying, 8 Mile, Ray, The Temptations, the Jackson 5 series and other biographical movies; what movie from our culture would you really really wanna see? Maybe its a story you know about but feel you dont know enough about.
I personally would love to see the Zaiko story. The very beginning the creation until the first couple splits. I dont too much care to know what happened in the 80s and 90s but would love to see a movie about how the founders met each other, how much work they had to individually put in, the strength of each member, who came up with the first couple songs, that type of thing.
Think it would also be good because after that it could lead into another Papa Wemba movie, that would be closer to his life than La Vie Est Belle.
I think Franco’s story would be interresting as well, from moving to Kin and learning how to play the guitar to starting to sing in a few bands all the way until Franco would be a fantastic story I think. With all the trials and tribulations, prison, the first defections from OK, the guys from Bantou, Youlou, Madilu, his relationship with Papa Simaro Lutamba.
(Maybe in 10 years we can all get together, pick a story, write it and do everything we can to make it possible, because if we wait.... lol no telling how long it would be, but wither way would love to see those beautiful stories on the screen, doesnt even have to be the big screen)

I live in America and have to live with the fact that Africans sold Africans into slavery, and let me tell you, that makes it really hard being African in America. Because I simply refuse to believe we could have been that dumb and stupid. To the guys born in Africa, or that have been to the village(not the city) what did the elders say about this? What is our side of this story? How much truth is there to this? Did we really betray our brothers for mirrors and salt?

If it did come from 4x4 or JB and his team, did they ever feel some type of way with Koffi becoming the face of the crie, the dance and after a while the genre named after it?
Thoughts on the new channel? I think its really a good idea but with the current state of the music I’m not sure how it’ll work. Are they just gonna play old songs because we dont really have much good new content from our artits currently. Are they gonna play the same 10 songs that came out this year over and over mixed with old stuff? If its mostly documentaries and music from other areas as well then we might be good but if its just congolese music idk

Musically and sonically speaking, with ALL bias put aside. If we dont take into account how much more succesful 4x4 ended up being. I think Molangi Ya Malasi was a better effort than Bouger Bouger and Kin E Bouger and I might even add Kalayi Boing in the mix. Do you guys agree or disagree. We all understand the impact that 4x4 had on the culture but I’m speaking strictly sonically/musically here.
Why is it that Wenge 4x4 live performances were 100x better than their albums(other than pentagone). Why does it sound so freaking Jazzy/Poppish in the studio rather than Rumba-ish like the reat of the music of the time?
Its 4th of July weekend, you’re chilling with your African American girlfriend or wife and her family and some of their family friends. On the way home they ask you to plug the aux cord and play 2 songs from your country because they wanna know more about your culture. What two songs do you play? Would you play one rumba and then one sebenes? Or would you play something from one generation and then something from another generation? When you get home you decide to then show them one videoclip. What videoclip would you pick?
Having a hard time differenciate solo, mi solo and rythmn if somebody could help and point out specific parts or time stamps from specific songs just so I could see the difference between the three. What made me ask is because someone posted a thread about Extra Musica and it was a video of a concert and the person was asking if it was really Extra. Come to find out it was a guy named Pape God. I ended up checking him out and really liking a particular song that was not in Lingala or even Kongo, it turned out it might have been in Mbochi. And it made me wonder, with me being from Brazza and Mbochis being about a 3rd of the population how come dont we know more about their history, where they came from, if they have relations to Nigeria/Cameroon. The year is 2018 now. I remember a time when the future looked bright and clear. In 98 we pretty much knew who were gonna be the stars of tomorrow. We knew Fally and Ferre were going to be the leaders of the new school. It wasnt about the hype it was clearly about their voices. In the past 10 years, so from 2008 until 2018, what new artists did you hear that you absolutely wanted to hear more from. Not talking about generiques, just in the last 10 years what new recruits did you hear that made you almost press replay because the sound was too sweet to the ear. For my part I’m trying to remember, the last person that made me look forward to new material was the coming out of Merlin Bouton in the song Jugement. Looking forward to hear you guys’ opinion because I’m not as up to date on what happened in the last 10 years other than generiques. If its any recruits from bcbg or mm please give us a song title so we can hear the talent, or post the song. My second question is what was the best album in the last 10 years from the newer generation, excluding Fally and Ferre. I know heritier, deplick, robinio, cappucino all came out with albums, was there one that stood out more than the rest? Who else came out with albums from that generation and were they any good?

It took me months to realize Maitre Gims (Djuna Djunana’s son) was actually Dadju’s older brother. And today I found out they got like 10 brothers all over Paris. How do those families usually deal with those situations? Does the father usually take care of all his kids or just some? Is there some kids left behind, and if so do those kids live completely away and cut off from their siblings? Do the kids usually grow up together to some extent or just with their mothers? I know Papa Wemba had about 30 kids, Tabu Ley did as well (Youssoupha I see you), I know Ferre has a bunch. Do you guys know how they make it all work
