Congolese Music / HAPPY NEW YEAR 2018 FRIENDS
« on: December 31, 2017, 20:57 »
2017 overall was the best year for music this decade so far. It won't be easily forgotten like the early 2010's. Hopefully 2018 keeps the momentum going.

Music resolutions: Good albums, proper sebene songs, and big artists actually growing up (I know won't that happen)

Craziness because of planned protests against the government. Also, I heard if any artist speaks out against the government, there careers will effectively be shut down. Just like how they cracked down on Alesh who has the most popular song out right now

"Crazy guy" Pomba gifted his whole band large stocks of food supplies for the new year. With the way conditions are bad in Kinshasa & currency free falling, they were very pleased with their gifts. Example à suivre

Congolese Music / THEY DON'T MAKE SONGS LIKE THIS ANYMORE
« on: December 27, 2017, 21:08 »
Songs about wisdom - the one's that really makes you think.  “Il n'y a pas de sots métiers, il n'y a que des sottes gens" - All work is honorable, it's the only one's character that matters.

Translation from the uploader: "The rainbow has appear on the sky, there will be no more rain. I've looked into myself and I've felt pain. I've stared at people that I've known, I've felt sad for myself.  I went to the same school as them. I've done the same just as them, but at the end of youth I've turned out with the title of no good."

Very minimal mabanga intergrated into the lyrics. Awilo Longomba and Iko Lokole on percussions and the rare use of the talking drum.

My friend said it was a fantastic concert; a successor to the 100% Tcha Tcho concert 10 years ago.

Complete with a horns and violins section

Congolese Music / KIEKIE, PARTY POLITICS - FALLY GIFTS KOFFI
« on: December 21, 2017, 03:25 »

I willing to bet Papa Cherie was crossed off the christmas list this year after his recent declaration about Ferre :D :D I'm sure it's sincere, but it's amusing the chess moves all the big artists make to show who is on which side.

I went to my music playlist and literally half my list deleted - this is post DJOmega page deletion. Just a friendly warning to save your favorite clips and concerts. I guess we had it good for too long, smh.

Moderated by Naty Lokole and in attendence all the music journalists - at his disposal. The attendence of Werrason is confirmed; something I find to be one of the best news this year. The finally buried the hatchet.

Congolese Music / MOST ANNOYING CHANTS/DANCES?
« on: December 12, 2017, 01:12 »
"Tchaka tchaka, Tchaka tchaka yo, Tchaka tchaka, Tchaka tchaka niata, Tchaka tchaka yo, Tchaka tchaka boma ma, Tchaka tchaka, Tchaka tchaka yo, Tchaka tchaka niata, Tchaka tchaka yo, Tchaka tchaka boma ma, Tcha Tcha Tcha Tcha Tchaka tchaka, Tchaka tchaka yo, Tchaka tchaka, Tchaka tchaka niata, Tchaka tchaka yo, Tchaka tchaka boma ma...." - Tutu Calludji 2000-2002

It was fun in the begining, particularly on the fire sebene portion of "Walay Danico", but afterwards at concerts Tutu beat just it to beyond death. I was convinced he ran out of ideas and his atalakou days were starting to pass him

What are other chant/dances you guys find annoying or bad?
