It is not about ba generiques, to be respected as bandleader, it about songs. To be respected as bandleader you to need have at least 10 tracks that random people can sing without to think from their head. If you ask someone if you know 10 JB songs he will say, Feux de l'Amour, 48 Heures Gecoco, R.D.C., Courage, Omba, Kinshasa, Education, La Rose Verte, Accapella & Grace a Toi Germain, the same for Werrason who has hits like Surprise Kapangala, Augustine, Chantal Swisterland, Coco Madimba, 13 Ans, Blandine, Kibuisa Mpimpa, Kalayi Boeing, Nicky D and Le Grand Monsieur. For Koffi Olomide we don't need examples. But if we go for example with a mic to Place Victoire, Grand Marche or Boulevard Triomphale and ask if they can sing 10 Wazekwa songs, couldnt even sing one, they will say "aaah asala ba nzembo ebele hein", to avoid to say that they don't know any song from him.

If Felix Wazekwa gave more space on Signature and subsequent albums to singers of Cultura, maybe he could be better respected for his rhumbas. Joss Diena and Rippason literally carried Wazekwa on their backs for three albums, from choruses to vocals.

Even if he would give them alot of space wouldn't change anything. Btw Signature is a solo-album and he gave them engough space and Tripason just sung on two albums (Sponsor & Signature).

The problem with Wazekwa he's isn't strong in combine his songs with catchy melodies. His songs aren't bad, but ighe worked after Signature with someone like Maika Munan or Sec Bidens, then it would have been different. His songs on Pauvre, Mais.. were good and well arranged, having session experienced musicians like Lokassa ya Mbongo, Sec Bidens, Caien Madoka, Popolipo and Dally Kimoko, but Wazekwa wasn't famous at that era. 






I think that after Sponsor/Signature the time came for Wazekwa to work with ghostwriters, but he was to proud. He wanted write all songs by himself and prove people that wrote songs for Papa Wemba & Koffi Olomide. But now 20 years later, nobody knows at least 5 songs from him  and apart the generics, there isn't any song from him that is played on weddings or birthday parties.

Animating in foreign languages was a trend since Kibuisa Mpimpa, Bill Clinton animating some parts in a Northern Cameroon dialect (but years claiming that it was Wolof) and also animating in foreign language in Madame la Torture when he was in Les Marquis, Kerozene animating in Zulu in Effrakata and in Malinke in Affaire d'Etat, etc.
