Back in those days you had to be one of those guys, if you wasn't them then your album would flop 100%. Because everybody only focused on them. There many unknown artists and bands who recorded excellent albums between 1998-2006, some even better than Wemba, Koffi, Werrason & J.B. Mpiana. But people always advicing them to join Maison Mere, BCBG, Quartier Latin or Nouvelle Ecriture. They hadn't people who were supported them and journalists (who became like slaves of those stars). The only guy who succeed in that era was Felix Wazekwa who was lucky to have support of people coming from Matete, who wanted also to have their own like those who were living in Bandalungwa and Lemba. It was almost a wonder that Fally & Ferre finally broke that myth in 2006/07. Then you got also Karmapa in 2003/04.
No, in Kinshasa you have now alot of artists who have succes guys like Alesh, Inoss B, Gaz Mawete, Youpi Yeah,.. It happen often that people in bars prefer them above Fally & Ferre. Alesh has alot of succes because of his political songs. Beside Ferre & Fally you have guys like Fabregas & Heritier Wantabe. And in the years 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, artists like Kabose & Lacoste were doing it well. Voiture Sans Moteur was one of the best songs of 2008 and Lacoste generique had a huge succes. Celeo Scram who came with Nzoto Na Nzoto in 2008 and having with album alot of huge, but bring unlucky that he couldn’t leave DR Congo. Brigade with his short succes in 2015 when he released Affaire a Rando. JDT Mulopwe with his album Moleki Nzela in 2008, Mirage Supersonic with Figure de Style in 2007. All those albums had some succes. People started to talk about Révolution G5.

Do you think that the 6th generation is going to break the cycle of monopoly in Congolese music vs the last few generations? Any idea who's funding Alesh, Innoss'b and Gaz Faboulous vs Werra, Koffi and Ferre being sponsored by donors? This is a two part question but what exactly does Gaz Faboulous or Alesh's music fall under? Because it's definitely not Ndombolo/Rumba but is it inspired by Afrotrap/Afrobeats/Rap? Or is inspired by Congolese rhythms but through programmed machines?Lastly, what's the fate songwriters and skilled guitarists/musicians possibly in the next 5-10 years? Even though Fally and Ferre aren't as great as their musical fathers Koffi and Werra, they can dance and are vocally talented. Are we going to have to look forward to Congolese rappers without stage presence?
I don't think so because I see nobody in Werra's, JB's, Fally's or Ferre's who has a big influence like Alain Mpela, Fally Ipupa, Ferre Gola, Heritier, etc. used to have in their former bands. So I see still the same artists dominate until 2023. Our donors don't like to support unknown artists. Expect Inoss B. who is supported by donors coming from Eastern Congo, Alesh and Gaz Fabulous, etc. have nobody. They always give their tracks for some money or Nkoy-beer to djs and if they are lucky they get some fame. They don't benefit of their succes. Anita Mwarabu who used to sing with F-Victeam sung not a long time ago a song with Mbilia Bel, dedicated to Docteur Jeff Ndjadi Leteta, which made her buy a jeep and start her own business in Kinshasa about beauty-products. The music those djs are making are inspired from Nigerian music and they often samply those hits and put their own lyrics on. They don't use Congolese music anymore. I think that we will get only rubbish songwriters, because they were raised the last 10 years with the bedroom music of B.E.K., Abacadabra, A2BM, QEDJ, Boite Noire, etc. Also the mentality of people living in Kinshasa is totally different. You have only to look at videos they upload on facebook who are mostly only about sex or insulting parents, etc. Don't you see how people are doing polemic now by insulting wife, familymembers, etc. I think that its to late. Or something must to create an diaspora-artist who create a revolution and change the things in Kinshasa.
