PRIVATE LIFE AND PERSONNALITY

Alain amadeus mozart afandé yoka mpela was born in 1971 in kinshasa and is the son of jean-robert yoka mpela,former church pianist and teacher at catholic school,aswell as politician later,and mama marie-madeleine bilepo aka queen mother like he calls her also a church singer
music is a family gift,since alain's brothers bienvenue aka geco bouro,blaise seguin aka maniata, ronsard kanza,the young rapper pistice who made his first tv appearance in jb mpiana's olympia,yves who is now a wenge bcbg singer aswell as two their sisters who are into religious music
alain mpela  admitted in a recent interview (with still a bit of uncertainty when he said it) being a father of 21 kids and is currently engaged to former wenge musica dancer nana boanga aka nana sukali
apart his musical career he is also member of political party ADT(which can be translate as congolese labour party for development) and co-directs with fellow musician felix wazekwa a group of ex-gangsters employed as road-workers in their quarter of matete
like many musicians,alain mpela is also a big football fan and particularly of fc barcelona (which often lead to friendly stick with many wenge musica men who were real madrid fans) and even liken his role in the wenge chorus to the role of barca's midfielder andrés iniesta
alain is often wrongly seen as arrogant due to his love of luxury life but is rather down to earth and is also perfectionist,like he often says"i'd rather do nothing than badly doing something"

HIS ROLE MODELS AND DEBUT AS A SINGER

alain's role models are,first and foremoest king kester emeneya he has a massive admiration for,even though he does not imitate his voice at all and recently admitted he lost sleep for days after hearing the news of kester's death
apart from kester,alain also has a lot of admiration for ok jazz musicians(ndombe,josky,lokombe,ntesa....)
the last role models he admitted were papa wemba and his former singer luciana demingongo,well known for his impressive chorus performances
alain had his first contact with music with religious music played at home by his father and learns singing and playing piano with him and also follows his mother in church groups especially one of the most popular of then chochriza(the chorus of christ in zaire)
at street level,his first contact with music is when he follows older neighbours of his quarter who are playing music,among them jean jacques kibinda pembele aka karmapa who really takes him under his wings and gives him basics about how to write a song
he develops further his contact with music outside matete,as he stops whenever and wherever he hears notes of music and then discovers a group in the area of kingasani ya suka in kinshasa
 the group is called balafon le mulafiona and composed,among others of senado tata malongi,famous songwriter and brother of now former colleague chai ngenge,vieux shella who is now a private songwriter and composer for werrason,nkoumen ilo who also wrote for several group including wenge musica,and his future colleague in bcbg jules kibens
one day in 1986,while on holiday at the house of the mother of seguin,kanza...and playing checkers with a friend,he is spotted by werrason who heard him singing songs of kester emeneya and stops next to him and asks him if he ever heard about a group called wenge musica,alain replies no and werra proposes him to come with him so he can prsent him to wenge musica members
alain is reluctant since he will be punished if he leaves home suddenly like that but werra convinces him and he is then introduced to jb mpiana and didier masela who are very impressed by his voice and the way he mastered victoria's songs and then when alain makaba arrives they test him again with guitar notes and he already sings in tune which surprises them from such a young guy
this is the debut of his career with wenge musica....

Alain Mpela and Boguys were the only good singers back in the day (TH-Anti-Terro)

alain mpela arrives in the group in late 1986 but spends his first years giving songs to  werrason and jb mpiana,orhelping them write their own songs(having learned his trade of songwriting with karmapa and other guys mentioned earlier) but does not yet sing with the group in concerts as he focuses on advancing in school
neverthelesse,due to a conflict between blaise bula and the rest of administrators he pariticipates in studio sessions of first ever wenge musica album mulolo
he was then  16 and so small that they had to make him stand on a crate of beer so that he could reach the height of the recording microphones
but blaise bula returns and finally sings(alain's voice still kept in one chorus)
 one year later the release of album mulolo and after arrival of singers marie paul and manda chante he starts singing on stage before entrance of the starting 4 of werrason,jb mpiana,blaise bula and ricoco
in 1990/1991 when the group goes on first european tour he misses out due to exams and marie paul taken instead interprets his vocals in second album kin e bouger
 this period is a turning point of his career as he starts to  share the 4th microphone(the three others being destined clearly to blaise bula,jb mpiana and werrason unless they want to have a little break,with adolphe dominguez,manda chante and later aimelia lias)
 in 1993,when the group records third album kalayi boeing  he is there and from then is always on their tour lists
he becomes much closer to jb mpiana as he lives with him, and will be with drummer titina alcapone the first musician outside administrators to have possibility of releasing a song,in part 2 of album les anges adorables hi ho ha new image released in 1994
alain also is there in album pleins feux released after but recorded in 1992,during his first europe tour with the group
he also participates in the final group album of wenge musica,pentagone,but only with vocals in some songs,and in the undergound preparation of jb mpiana's solo album(helped in defining the songs to pick,corrected some parts written by jb himself....)
like its well known,the success of feux de l'amour worsened leadership problems and lead to group split and alain mpela was the first musician to be aware of imminent split and an idea of the after-wenge musica life as he lives with jb and witinesses all the reunions organized to try solve the conflicts or also the reunion to prepare the then highly likely post-wenge musica life
he is then part of those who remained with jb blaise makaba(as opposed to werra,adolphe and masela) and  releases the second song of his career proces mambika but also contributes in  several other songs of first album of wenge bcbg titanic
one year after release of titanic,alain mpela becomes the chef d'orchestre of the group in replacement of blaise bula following leadership problemes between the three admins and has a pivotal role in the mythic concert of zenith in 1999,aswell as a tough responsability on that day as like he admitted he had to tell administrator alain makaba he would not go on stage until the last songs since he came late(it was part on the "getting rid" plan jb mpiana and rival werra used to remain unique leaders)
he becomes like jb's own brother and is heavily involved in jb mpiana's second solo album TH
un the next group album internet released in 2001 alain mpela released the third song of his career kap kapita and also gave song pacte divin ( he had kept from his teenage years when he was  following older singers and songwriters
he is then seen as a model for chef d'orchestres of other groups and to strenghten even more his popularity and importance he is meant  to release several songs in the nexr group album anti terro

People are blaming werrasson for the split but Jb ego after the release of his solo album was the main  reason behind the split

 it is unfair to single out  someone for the split( even though nsone benefits from that image of the guy abandoned by most of the group) it was we an ego war between both for supreme leadership of the group,and used by other artists who saw wenge as a threat to definitely make it happen
 none of the administators had zero responsability in the conflicts who lead to split,especially jb and werra(which helped  build their solo career with their groups around that rivalry)

Just cannot picture Mpela telling Alain Prince"u not getting on stage since u came late, u'll wait till tge last 2 songs" and Prince accepting it without "mobulu",there must be a big fight that went on backstage while we were enjoying the show....and who did he withGeco turn to arrange their Album? Prince Makaba!

 it was quite tense,monsieur simon,vieux kiss and  damien dimonekene had to  help solve it in the locker room
when you watch the concert you can't even imagine that 5 minutes ago,makaba and jb were throwing silly insults at each other

Even Werra...Notice well the Concert with Wemba in Paris...Blaise Bula gave his Mic to Jolly Mubiala, then Werra does his famous "Hors Game"( Bula and Makaba couldnt help it)...During the Sebene JB and Makaba call Mpela to go take Werra's Mic!! I die laughing Everytime i watch that video

Whoever pays the bills is the real boss and has the right to demand respect. It is well reported that whoever was Director of Finance of Wenge Musica wasn't paying staff their dues etc so JB Mpiana was paying the band through his personal resources from sales of the same solo album and his contacts including those connected to big politicians, it is also the reason why almost all singers and instrumentalists went with JB Mpiana so that should tell you a lot about what happened before the split, it's nothing much to do with ego,all of them had ego issues but the main issue was finances and even today,all the splits and departures from big bands are as a result of money issues. Musicians like us have families to look after and when they are not being paid or they are being paid peanuts for their hard work they move on.
