Congolese Music / Re: FERRE KICKS CHIKITO OUT OF HIS GROUP
« on: July 12, 2017, 01:13 »
Faux formateur had me cracking up. I've been a big Ferre fan since the 90's, but one has to be in denial not to concede that his band leadership leaves a lot to be desired at times.

I'm still not even sure what the official name of his band is (Jet7, Gaulois, Ferre and the Ferrettes?)

Congolese Music / Re: A LOOK AT KIRIKOU

The only atalakous that can be justifiably compared to Ekokota are Nono Atalakou (the man who was the catalyst for the shaker and amination) and Djuna Mumbafu (the man who popularized the role in the late 80’s). Ekokota was the man who revolutionized and set the tone for animation in the decades that followed.

I thought Gode and Koffi split in the early 90’s because of irreconcilable differences, particularly with his busy music schedule. I saw a picture of Koffi’s and Alya’s wedding somewhere, but I forget where. She used to always travel with him for tours and concerts until the mid 2000’s

She knew already what she were getting marrying a musician and especially a Congolese one, and especially a guy like Koffi, so why being surprised? Sometimes women should check people with sincere feelings instead of going after people with fame lime they are used to do now.

You’re implying the spouse of musicians should be devoid of basic emotional feelings all the time. By most standards the on stage interaction was very suggestive

Hate to drag JB into this, but this reminds me of when Amida caught Jb in bed with Nono Diamant around his Bercy and his staff to her to calm down and not get upset  ;D

The great Wunda Ekokota and Kirikou should never be mentioned in the same sentence.

Most street atalakous in Kin have a better voice than Kirikou. He had a long period of relevance because of the “Boss” cri, but it seems Koffi is over that now, as he’s no longer getting the air time Koffi gave him 6-8  months ago. He wasn’t selected for his recent tour either, if I recall correctly

This was Nyanka Bell's and Koffi's recreation of Jane Birkin's Serge Gainsbourg's 1969 hit Je T'aime,...Moi Non Plus when Birkin and Gainsbourg were a couple. Regarded as the most erotic chart topping song ever. In fact, the song was banned in many countries at the time

Alya was watching in the audience. This was at Kora Awards 1999, when the whole QL team was in South Africa for a while recording Attentat

This was before the internet, so people really thought they were a real life couple. It's not easy being the wife of a famous musician ;D

The bass is the rhythm rather than using a rhythm guitar

These idiots are lucky they aren't in the U.S. This can get you get you arrested or deported if you don't have papers. Like how is he going to say for Heritier and To to play in Kin,  like you dumb nigha aren't people suffering in Congo so why have there in the first place? This foolishness needs to stopped once and for all. This guy seems slow to me.

I has to begin with you...

Use what ever means to block their videos...

Stop publicizing them..

They will know how much they are hated..

Well Jdog's posting of their latest threat video was taken down.. and suprisingly lots of recent videos they've put out have been removed. So little steps are being taken, we just need a united front

The bare bones lyrics are Fally's, but it seems the finished composition is textbook Koffi. Everything is done in a measured Tcha Tcho-esque manner particularly with the lyrical style, instrumentals/synthesizers, and the vocal arrangement.

Ko Ko Ko, on the other hand, was more indicative of the future solo Fally's style. Kind of like how Cadenas is a cousin of Ko ko ko

I know Koffi had a huge hand in Eric Tutsi's Dulcinée, to the point where he changed most of Eric's lyrics to polish and add melody, which is why he had no problem singing it himself in concert after Eric was pushed out of the group.

Whaaaaat? Ahahahahahahahahahahaha this has made my day, how can a thing like this could go unnoticed? Koffi could get a lot of Koreans and worldwide fans making a feat with him like Snoop did.

What shocked me most was that they weren't randomly thrown on stage together, Psy knew who Koffi was.

Koffi, conversely, has never really cared for the international/world music scene. I guess he knew it wasn't for him. He's done scattered featurings with other African artist over the years and some late-90's french rappers, particularly Passi and his Bisso na Bisso collective

4225
Good for them; just have them keep a low profile and keep rehearsal locations a secret

lol, speaking of Psy, you guys remember the time the president of Gabon had Koffi and Psy on stage together?

This was not too long after Gangnam style became a global sensation

If it weren't for Salif "Asalfo" Traore's disctinctly Ivorian accent, I wouldn't recognize their present music at all. Asalfo on a personal level has stuck to his strict traditional roots, but his band found a big market for international pop music from people of immigrant background (aka almost all popular French artists).

I was big fan of them in their early days, even went to see them when they were still a street/traditional band in Abidjan, but when they went International quick after the delayed success of Preimer Gaou (took years to reach French charts) they started to lose traditionalists like me, though I understood why the band took the Pop route.

The language do not count the most viewed song in the world is this

A song of a Korean man who is not even a real rapper or singer, rapping in Korean, you know why he went famous? Because he kept himself up without changing his style, and did a crazy job promoting himself furthermore this guy is independent he has no label, and he payed himself all the thing correlating the video the dancers and so on.
On the Fally's side what we are full of is not the way he want to be international, he can be that but is the fact that he is changing the way he was making awesome songs like Liputa, Droit Chemin, Power 001, Original for making average songs to go international, but honestly I would really like to see who outside of Congolese people and Francophone guys and girls know him. Once I discuss with my friends about artist and they had no Idea of who Ferré was (they are Nigerians) and when we spoke about Fally they say that they know him but not fan of his recentmusic it has to mean something.

Going off-topic a little; these view count numbers make me dizzy. And here we have our artists making a huge fuss over getting 1-2 million views

I'm pretty sure Christian Mabanga played bass on Intervention Rapide.

Indeed, my misto

4229
At the time I got into heated debates with friends about it which (sebene, not album) was more impactful. It's getting close to 20 years later and it's still a debate matter.

Titanic was clearly recorded in better conditions in Europe (with a proven team), but Intervention Rapide was so different sounding and teenage Bill Clinton was already a force to be reckoned with.

Animation: Bill Clinton
Solo: Japonais Maladi
Bass: Didier Masela Christian Mabanga
Rhythm: Guylian Mpungi
Drums (programming): Godé Lofombo
Snares: Papy Kakol
Mbonda: Ali Mbonda

Animation: Tutu Calludji
Solo: Mboka Liya
Bass: Patient Kusangila
Mi Solo: Maitre Ficarre
Rhythm:  Kusangila
Drums : Titina
Keys: Theo Bidens

If you were in cities outside of Kin or the eastern DRC cities, you were more likely to hear Titanic. The album was a sucess to the highest degree. In Kinshasa, however, especially in the common communities you were more likely to hear Intervention Rapide, as Maison Mère had a grassroots chégue following. The youth preferred Wenge MM.

Technically, Maison Mère got even (and surpassed) BCBG in sheer popularity around the time of Solola, but Intervention rapide was a way of saying to BCBG, we don't have all the resources you have yet, but we're coming for you..

Thoughts or opinions on which you preferred at the time?
