I thought about this the other day and after listening to Heritier’s new Chemin album, I have to say this. I really think guys like Fally or Ferre could save this genre if they really wanted to. If you know me, you know exactly where I’m going with this but hear me out.

Fally and Ferre are the ones that are at the top right now and everybody follows suit. Whatever they do, the rest of the artists and bands follow them. So right now, they both create 1 or 2 generiques, and the rest are rhumbas mostly for their albums. That’s the standard format for the last 20 years almost and albums like Droit Chemin solidified it. By the mid 2010s, it kind of changed a little bit. When Fally released power 001 in 2013. It had like 3 or 4 generiques. Then you saw artists release numerous generiques for their albums and it was a great time during that period. Even guys like werra and Koffi released a good number of generiques and even seben songs in their albums in those years.

By the time Ecole releases in 2018, the format goes back to 1-2 generiques, the rest rhumba. The rest of the genre follows suit and it has been downhill from there. Now here we are today.

Now, Fally or Ferre have the power to change things. They could just aim for their next album to have fully generiques and seben, very little rhumba. Not just plain seben songs. Really strong seben songs, with strong animations and partitions that are on the level of the golden days, and to top it off with a new modern and innovative approach. If they did that, I bet everyone would follow suit too. Guys like werra and Koffi would definitely go back to that format too. Then the genre is saved, and fally or Ferre would truly be the GOATS.

The donors.. yes the donors. I think if fally/ferre really wanted to do a seben album, they could convince the donors. The fact that fally/ferre and the other artist don’t see the value in seben is what led to the donors to believe that as well. Now I know they wouldn’t take this risk because they would rather play it safe, that’s why I’m so disappointed in this generation. They have the power, but they just don’t use it the right way. Time will pass them by and they will lose this opportunity. Just like with the last generation in the late 2000s(werra,Koffi,JB). They don’t have the same power now that they did 20 years ago. The same thing will happen to Fally/Ferre.

Let me know what you guys think. I know I might be ridiculous here but I wanted to throw this out there and hear your thoughts on this.

My two cents....any product that is meant for the market will always obey what the market wants. Supply and demand dynamic. These artists produce what the market wants or they would not make profit/money and be forced to change. So seems the love for generiques among fans on this platform and elsewhere has not  translated to a powerful demand dynamic to force supply by artists. Seems rumba is paying them okay and that is the demand they respond to. Lovers of sebene and generiques can all pull together and become donors and force the artists to play albums with 10+ seben and generiques. Without that we will keep having this debate on the keyboard as artists keep churning out 30-song albums with 29 of them being rumbas......

The lady vocalist in La Queen Lina and Adolfo sounds like Lisa the Dancer. I've seen her sing very wonderfully in concerts. Has she overtaken Jack Love in the musical pecking order?

As confessed for years I am Cadenas/Moribond kinda rumba fanatic. That makes the following my on rotation hits;

1. Vacances
2. Adolfo
3. Rombox
4. La Queen Lina
5. Gagner d'ame

In the worthy mention  category(songs I would listen to more than once but not regularly)
1. Citoyen du monde
2. Irremplacable
3. Vase d'honneur
4. De la Republique
5. Novelas
6. Lelisa nga

Those that I guess appeal to others with a different preference but not for mine and never playing again on my playlist

1. D.L
2. Simba
3. Mayi Mayi
4. Le Baron
5. Makambu ya monde

As for the 2 generiques, quite underwhelming made worse by the fact that I am not as crazy for generiques as the majority so a huge pass on those ones

Apart from Mvula ya bolingo all the other songs sound the same, I think he has stuck to the second or is it third generation sound?(madilu, Nyboma, TP and Bana OK, Bozi Boziana, Tabu Ley et al)......... happy listening to fans of this kind of rumba though

Maybe I need to listen to it more for it to grow on me but for now am not feeling it. A downgrade from MAMD generique in my opinion. Saving grace for me is that I am more a rumba fan so I know there will be enough delicacies for me and my ilk when the album comes out

Congolese Music / Re: Van Vedes- WMMM New Lead Solo!
« on: February 28, 2024, 04:57 »
Werrason actually needs a very good soloist, I'm not convinced by current team and seems he actually prefers Yamukolo more on solo and Vedes on mi solo.

The quality of the sebene is very poor in rehearsals and I am 100% in agreement with you. The signature hard-hitting WMMM sebene is lost and replaced with a very uncoordinated sound. On another note,  I have watched many rehearsals and I have never seen Van Vedes play....@Nkosi, is it possble you upload a video of him playing prominenetly? Yamukolo has refused to grow on me....bang average IMO

Werrason must be the most unlucky guy I ever know....does he ever do anything that makes people say anything positive about him?
Why do you always get so upset when people have the smallest critique towards Werra? Do you work for him or something??

No Sir, I don't work for him. I am Kenyan and have never stepped foot in DRC and we both don't know each other.

He is unhappy with the fact that werra took chai's song that they sang together to release on his name, and that chai received nothing, and that werra took two dancers the soloist and some singers from chai band while he had to be his "mentor" or producer its like he approached chai to destroy him while chai was not even strong enough yet
mann everytime siblings of our artists appear on tv its never to appease things but rather to make it explode

About the dancers, I know he took Udjana and Balotteli. Did he not ask Chai for permission to take them? For soloist and singers, what are their names? I haven’t seen any new soloist or singers in rehearsals

:D :D :D :D....Just thinking....if it had happened in that other band, allegations of witchcraft and sacrifice would have already filled the air....my condolences though

Congolese Music / Re: FINALLY UDJANA JOINS WMMM
« on: February 02, 2024, 09:26 »
One of the biggest mistakes Werrason made was to abandon that which made him great. He is good at performances and not slows. This means he needs a good team of dancers, both male and female. The female team is now sealed:
1. Udjana
2. Balotelie
3. Ketchy
4  Ketto
5. Solanje
6. Sarah
7. Linda
8. Tanya

He has upgraded Roi Sabo to first team and has settled for Yamukolo and Van Vedes on solo. Based on the information I got, Morote has 3 generiques: Two traditional generiques with one of them being a live recording and 1 folklore (the current one they are vibing to.

Who is the atalaku on the extreme left of the screen, next to Michigan? Where Jamaique always is?

Tutu must be a legend..... it's curious how if it was any other artist the commentary here would have been very loud of how that is a big step back.......

Congolese Music / Re: WMM TESTING A SINGER
« on: December 02, 2023, 18:50 »
I wish I could be understanding Lingala

He is called Djanelly, was with Ferre up to a few months ago. Left and started calling himself Djanelly Ipupa and has come full circle...I am not very sure but he keeps singing parts of Ba Chinois by Ibrator when he was with Ferre and here at the test so makes me think he may have been with Ibrator before Ferre but just a hunch. On top of all, he has such an easy way of singing he'll improve Werra's vocal lineup which is not bad but just bang average......

Congolese Music / Re: WERRA STILL RECRUITING ATALAKUS
« on: November 08, 2023, 12:10 »
Werrason likes Wasabo so much such that unlike others who had to go through the reserve team, he came straight into the first team. He was openly praising him and his creativity three weeks ago. Wenge MMM fans also love him so much. He has not been given much space because they mostly do old animation which has been shared between Jamiaque and Golbert. However, he has been given space on Morote and we will see him taking a leading role next year, Jamique will most likely leave and focus on his band in Kisangani.

Wasabo can really reenergize Werra's animation department given a chance and exposure. It's been flat for far too long
