Eric Menthe, Tonton Lay, Mustapha and Tshe Tshe De Balle had the greatest potential but the problems of Academia really screwed them over. Eric Menthe went to BCBG waited 4 years to finally sing on an album and then left years later and where is he now. Tonton Lay went to QL and never got a chance to even sing in an album and left really quickly and his solo career really isn’t working out. Mustapha well mawa we all know what happened to him smh, Tshe Tshe De Balle was able play in Danger De Mort and finally got to see Europe in 2009 when he went to zenith but I think barely played. Only Musika sika and Pitchou Concorde and maybe a little bit Tshe Tshe De Balle really survived the Academia fall out.

Eric Menthe did a good job replacing Bouro but would it have been better for him to join QL instead of bcbg since Koffi really likes tenorists

So sad that Academia didn’t last long
I wish they performed at Olympia and Zenith like they were supposed to. If they did people would give them a lot more respect, even now people still say nearly all of them apart from Bouro didn’t do anything after they left Koffi in 1999.

He didn’t play in Attentat and Abracadabra,  Attentat came out before Viagra. He played in BEK but Koffi didn’t credit him in the album. The problem was he didn’t have the same hype and fame as Champion or Titina or even Cambodge, he barely survived.

Tshe Tshe Le Balle played in Attentat. He just played one song there (Victoire). Koffi even credited him. You can even see him in the Sur la Route Bercy-VHS

He did? He wasn’t credited on the cd but guys like Jf ifonge, Jordan Kusa, Kabobo and Chikito were and they didn’t even sing in the album. Yes I remember seeing him at Sur la Route de Bercy.

Yeah, you were right. I  just watched the credits of Attentat "version radio" and "l'integral", Tshe-Tshe le Balle wasn't credited in the credits nor his real name Roger. I don't know why I kept thinking for years that his name was in the credits. So he basically lied in all interviews he made in Luanda and Kinshasa, about having drummed in the song Victoire. It could also be that Koffi erased his name, when getting informed that he joined Academia. Because through the interview of Paulin Mukendi, I learned that Sanction got released earlier in Kinshasa and that they went immediatly there for concerts. Before I always thought that they went there just twice, the time went they went back after the fara-fara's against Koffi at LSC and La Madeleine, bragging about having bought their own instruments and the time when they came to get the team based in Kinshasa for the tour of Viagra.

About Tshe-Tshe le Balle, he already left early Academia and long time before the problems started. He already left before the recordings of 4 Coins Kandala who were drummed by Lokilo who came from Empire Bakuba,  not long after it dancer Kaddy Show followed. He rejoined Quartier Latin, who were at that time promoting Effrakata in Kinshasa through public concerts sponsored by Vodacom. But he was barely, being the third drummer behind Cambodge and Titina and left to rejoin Quartier Latin a few years later again.

What did became of keyboard player Eric Bamba, who also played in Magie ? He had to run away after recording Viagra. The way Franc Congolais was looking at Abillissi, was like she was in love. Such a shame that Mustapha lost his head and voice. He and Eric Menthe were the best singers. But it's strange that Sam and co didn't think about recruiting 2nd voice singers. They only recruited tenorists.

It will always stay a mystery for me, for the way Lebou Kabuya and Suzuki didn't show up at LSC after having performed in Geneva.

Did Abillisi recorded with them for Viagra and got his vocals deleted or did he leave before they started recording. He did those same vocals at the confirmation concern in Geneva.

I don't remember that guy's name, Bozi Boziana's son but he's one of the worst singers lmao not as bad a JF Ifonge...but close

Abilissi left already a long time before the recordings of Viagra. I don't know what the reasons were. He tried to rejoin Extra Musica, but they refused. I just know that he did the vocal of "Mombemo okeyi, yebisa Mopila...." in his song Japonnaise of his solo-album Jugement (2002). It could that it was a song, he wanted to put in Trop c'est Trop.

Abel Benz is one of the biggest faux chanteurs in the history of Congolese music, but he's better than Bob Lorenzo and Eder Uomo and maybe JF Ifonge. They must to do a fara-fara against JF Ifonge, about who being a better singer.

It was silly at the time for Tshe Tshe De Balle to rejoin QL before 4 Coins Kandala because what if they ended up going back to Europe to perform in Olympia. Yes Eric Menthe and Mustapha were the best singers and they had the most vocals behind Sam, Modogo and Suzuki.

I also wonder why they didn’t take this singer to Europe, he was the first singer they recruited after Abel Benz and he was performing with them at Kin. He was in Quartier Latin when they recruited all those musicians after Sam left you can see him in the Droit De Veto VHS. Did they take him to Europe but he ended up running away early? Or was he spiritually attacked or just ended up leaving the group early all together.

What is his name ? I don't know what happened to him. I don't think that he came to Europe, otherwise we would have seen him in that video of Nzungu Ekotoko or the concert in Geneva. Some musicians just leave for minor incidents.
