i knew i would be interpretated as defending fally,i am not defending  fally at all,i am analysing the evolution of music especially the so called world music and  the evolution of french music at least the rnb rap department and saying that except some one-offs here and there,i am yet to see somebody who is not european or american who brought his music exactly like it is  and became a long term star here
listen to papa wemba's album this was the world music of back then a lot of pop jazz and co with your language but also some foreign influence this is how the likes of wemba or benin's angelique kidjo established themselves
while the current world music  is more of some polished coupe decale mixed with hip hop rnb house music ,and even because of that many many people  herecall whatever african music  you put  here especially if its a dance one coupe decale
and why do i insist on magic system? ask yourself/ves why they were discovered with their typical premier gaou which is pure zouglou then spent over a decade doing something else if it was that possible to force people to accept our music like it is why did they change then since it was not a matter of minutes like how people say rumbas are too long,it was the same length of songs 5 minutes max or 6 7 occasionally

Magic system DID change one hell lot their music to settle here
their current music

and now their authentic music

here their very original rhythm which is called wôyô
in this clip they talk about when they just landed in paris

i believe one thing we have to take into account as much as i am proud of our language,is the language factor
for example  michael jackson was known in the states,in a village of senegal, in a town of birmania,in brazil and so on because of the style of music first and the fact it was english
so do today the shakira beyonce and co
juste like the french speaking artists of europe especially the french african ones are known in france and all around the francophone countries, despite those countries having a lot of their stars with the authentic music from their country
its a combo of language plus style of music, magic system do not play hardcore zouglou anymore just like  p square do not play highlife of  folklore like their  main music
look for example to what happened to youssou ndour when he aimed to go international,he had  one hit  feat neneh cherry and was asked to stick to singing in english for a good moment which apparently he refused and went back to his mbalax
there are two types of international, the continental one  and the kinda worldwide one or proper worldwide
our stars are known in africa just like now in kinshasa you get  to hear congolese music  in nightclubs in the two last hours or if one of the stars is in the nightclub and they do him a favour
then there is the wordlwide one, count the number of american stars who never ever toured in africa to promote their music but have loads of people who love them, now count the jb's ,werra's,koffi's, davido's and co who are so popular in states and europe with their authentic music that they can easily play on a soldout madison square or stade de france
i really get the "emotional" part of it and i agree with that aswell but i think we have to put the things in their context
what we consider as international, even fabregas is not too far to have nailed it already but then it would depend on ambition of each artist to be happy with that or trying to go higher
The language do not count the most viewed song in the world is this

A song of a Korean man who is not even a real rapper or singer, rapping in Korean, you know why he went famous? Because he kept himself up without changing his style, and did a crazy job promoting himself furthermore this guy is independent he has no label, and he payed himself all the thing correlating the video the dancers and so on.
On the Fally's side what we are full of is not the way he want to be international, he can be that but is the fact that he is changing the way he was making awesome songs like Liputa, Droit Chemin, Power 001, Original for making average songs to go international, but honestly I would really like to see who outside of Congolese people and Francophone guys and girls know him. Once I discuss with my friends about artist and they had no Idea of who Ferré was (they are Nigerians) and when we spoke about Fally they say that they know him but not fan of his recentmusic it has to mean something.
That song doesn't even sound traditionally Korean, K-Pop has a huge following in the USA but they make music that African Americans made years ago even the style of videos they imitate. There's nothing authentic about popular Korean music. The popular Nigerian attists make a lot of music that has western influences even P-Square.
Fally has a write as an artist to experiment and I'm very confident that he won't lose his hardcore fans after this album, I'm not a fan of French influenced western music. I still have many old songs from Fally I can listen too and I love elo koyo and I still need to listen to the album. Fally gets criticized a lot because he's always been open to new things but he's talented and is one of the people that has kept Congolese music alive for me personally. If he captures other audiences with this album they'll eventually find his old music and other Congolese artists.

If it weren't for Salif "Asalfo" Traore's disctinctly Ivorian accent, I wouldn't recognize their present music at all. Asalfo on a personal level has stuck to his strict traditional roots, but his band found a big market for international pop music from people of immigrant background (aka almost all popular French artists).

I was big fan of them in their early days, even went to see them when they were still a street/traditional band in Abidjan, but when they went International quick after the delayed success of Preimer Gaou (took years to reach French charts) they started to lose traditionalists like me, though I understood why the band took the Pop route.

Going off-topic a little; these view count numbers make me dizzy. And here we have our artists making a huge fuss over getting 1-2 million views

That's exactly my point, they were introduced here if i am not mistaken but famous talk show presenter and producer arthur and they first did a dj remix of premier gaou then were given to the former best duet of beatmakers of france kore and skalpovic and signed to whatever major until today with their rare true african songs being on cd's but never promoted on tv

I am the one who started this topic and archos you are actually helping me get answers to the questions I posed and you are not defending fally at all. you have made me understand the dynamic of the "world music" business and especially the way african artists are crossed over by handlers in the european musical scene. If anything I am actually going to start rooting for fally to break into it because he is trying to do with without losing himself and in staying true to his linguistial (lingala) and musical roots.

Whaaaaat? Ahahahahahahahahahahaha this has made my day, how can a thing like this could go unnoticed? Koffi could get a lot of Koreans and worldwide fans making a feat with him like Snoop did.

Korea has no artist that plays original Korean style's song the famous artisst sing and dance like black R'n'B singers both males and females and the underground Korean artist are rappers of course imitating Biggie and 2Pac  style, I know that very well being a huge fan of Epik High (Underground Rap Group) and good viewer of DBSK and The BigBand (Korean R'n'B boybands), yes they copied american s and especially black American big time, but they always sing in Korean and add a very little bit of English, you know what drived me to listen to the Epik High songs? The flow, the way they were handing the mic even though I couldn't understand a word of their singing.

And this is not even the most popular group, but if you see this guys music you can feel a vibe that Fally has lost, if Fally stucks to the things he knows how to do best in Lingala you will see how his popularity will grow and if you see about the K thing All the songs are in Korean and the english is very limited.

What shocked me most was that they weren't randomly thrown on stage together, Psy knew who Koffi was.

Koffi, conversely, has never really cared for the international/world music scene. I guess he knew it wasn't for him. He's done scattered featurings with other African artist over the years and some late-90's french rappers, particularly Passi and his Bisso na Bisso collective

Well 90 percent of Fally's music sounds straight up Congolese and I don't understand French or Lingala but he's my favorite African artists cuz I don't even listen to Afro beats like that and to me it's funny cuz Fally is one of the most authentic artist that are popular in.Africa right now. When Fally sings among other artist it's admirable and he can get crowd going that doesn't even listen to Congolese music.
Fally has a very unique distinctive voice that sets him apart from a lot of artists and that's one of his gifts.
K-Pop is trash to me sorry and a lot of them are racist so you can't defend it and speak against Fally.

Fally might make a wrong crossover with bad quality but CONGOLESE DO NOT COPY AND HAS NEVER COPIED NIGERIANS, IT IS THE OPPOSITE, GHANAIANS, NIGERIANS, IVORIANS, TOGOLESE AND SO ON COPIED CONGOLESE MUSIC THROUGHOUT THE YEARS AND CAME AWAY WITH THE BIG RESULTS. THIS STATEMENT LIKE FALLY IS COPING NIGERIANS REALLY GET ON MY NERVES HE IS TALKING IN ENGLISH FOR BEING WORLDWIDE INTERNATIONALLY NOT FOR COPYING NIGERIANS.
