Title: Was BCBG's show in Abidjan the first where JB started to get is own entrace ?
Post by: mvulusi96 on April 17, 2018, 04:25
Was JB Mpiana's show in Abidjan the first concert where JB Mpiana started to get his own entrace ? Because Wenge BCBG was normally always starting his concerts with all the 4 singers (Blaise, JB, Alain & Aimelia) getting on stage with the sebene of Titanic.

here are Blaise Bula, Aimelia Lias, Alain Mpela & Tutu Calugi singing Tchane before JB Mpiana's arrival on stage. Btw this is Blaise Bula's last concert with Wenge BCBG. Some weeks after that Wenge BCBG held a big show at l'Esplanade de Palais du Peuple, where many people saw Jules Kibens for the first time. Who became then a frst, after being a PPU/Pipiyu for many months with Rio, Chai & Heritier.

Their succes was in Abidjan was big. They went their 4 times in one year. I remember Ahmed Bakayoko going to Cotounou with his friends and collegues just to watch JB Mpiana performing there. This show was during the new eve of 1999 with their new album Titanic being number one there.

Woah, thanks for the post! My mother is an avid collector of live concert tapes from Wenge, Koffi, and the like. This summer when I return from campus, maybe I'll convert those tapes to digital video and upload them on Youtube. I'm getting tired of watching these concerts in such poor quality!

What specifically caused Blaise to depart from Wenge BCBG? Did the formation of PPU have anything to do with him leaving? Usually Congolese bands suffer defections as a result of overrecruitment unsettling long-term members.

Who was the first to leave BCBG?

What specifically caused Blaise to depart from Wenge BCBG? Did the formation of PPU have anything to do with him leaving? Usually Congolese bands suffer defections as a result of overrecruitment unsettling long-term members.

Who was the first to leave BCBG?

It's Blaise Bula who came with the idea to create PPU. Alain Makaba was the guy who wasn't happy with it and it made him angry when JB decided to bring Rio, Chai & Kibens to Zenith while he as Artistic Director  only  wanted a to see a replacer for Blaise and Ekokota.

Blaise left because JB Mpiana didn't want him anymore in the band. Like Werrason who didn't want Masela & Adolphe anymore. He wanted to be the sole leader in the band. So they were looking for reasons to get him out the band. Things between JB Mpiana, Blaise Bula & Makaba weren't going right already in Canada. When JB Mpiana decided to point Alain Mpela as chef d'orchestre. When they were  in Congo many things happened. Makaba and Blaise werently also happy why concert promoters started to write JB Mpiana & Wenge BCBG on posters. Then Blaise Bula made clear that he wanted to record his own solo album Ponderation 8 after the release of Titanic which JB Mpiana off. But he couldn't fire him, because hadn't the power to do that. After that JB Mpiana pointed Fi Carré as Financial director, while it was Blaise's position. Which created a conflict between both guys. So when they went to Abidjan the argument between the two guys became so harsh that Blaise beeted Fi Carré with a beer bottle. JB was absent during that incident, because he was in Paris toc sign contracts for Zenith and their next Europe-tour. Then after that concert JB profited from that situation to give him a "suspension indeterminee". Not long after that Blaise Bula became very ill and was then hopitalized in Clinique Ngaliema. But nobody of Wenge BCBG visited him there claiming that they were so "busy" with preparing their Zenith-concert. Then people of his entourage, his family and friends started claiming that JB wanted to sacrifice him and started to call him ungrateful. Since that they started Wenge BCBG at Blaise Bula's house and prepared their show for Bataclan there, it was also Blaise who did those nasty jobs to attack Werra before the split and his final words at GHK where they tried to reconcile Wenge made them split and earing him the nickname "Le Parrain de la Revolution". So after being abadoned  by his friends of BCBG he decided to leave after he was recovered and started his own band Ponderation 8 and started to record his album. In meantime he started to attack JB Mpiana very strong in interviews and became close to Werrason & Koffi Olomide. Then Alain Mpela attacked him in a vocal of the song Papito Mbala Remix. After that Blaise's departure they were looking for a way to get Makaba out the band. With Alain Mpela & Titina doing the nasty jobs and Makaba leaving after the Zenith-show.

They did Aimelia dirty too. Did he left right after the Olympia show ?

No. Olympia was like the start of the Europe-tour after having toured in the USA & Canada. It was somewhere in September 1999. Aimelia's last concert was at Madeleine. The concert at Madeleine was in November 1999. It was their goodbye-concert before returning to Kinshasa.I had that videotape at home but my cousin took it15 years ago. In that videotape Pepe Akundji and Evelyne Ngongolo "aka Mere Eve" were talking and praising JB Mpiana and saying that he had to perform at Stade de France. I wonder where they are now 1998-2002 were their last year very active years in the Congolese-music scene.

It was also a little Aimelia own fault. Aimelia started to be big-headed after Titanic, because of the succes of his song Liberation. (Don't understand why is song doesn't have a videoclio). JB wasn't also liking why he wasn't a follower like Alain Mpela, Tutu Calugi and Titina Al Capone. So that made his relation with the boss and the rest of the band so so. Then after Bercy they went to Canada. Before or after the show (I don't remember) he asked Miette Shegue and Bingetox if they wanted to follow him in the car of a fan instead of going with the rest of band and they accepted. But then the car-driver made a big car-accident, which made Bingetox paralyzed. JB Mpiana was furious on Aimelia. So after that they decided to punish Aimelia very hard by not letting participate to the recording-sessions of TH and giving him a big suspension if he would return in Kinshasa. Nobody of Wenge BCBG was saying to him the days that they had to go to the studio. So when the tour came to an end he wanted to return, but didn't because he saw it as a huge humilation by not participation on TH with the big pride he had then and didn't saw how he would explain it to the press and his fans if the album would come out. Many people were waiting for his return after his remarkable participation at Zenith and Olympia, wanting also but witness that 1 minute eh-vocal without breathing. But they were ;eft all dissapointed when they heard that he stayed in Europe. Aimelia then tried to contact Koffi Olomide so that he could join Quartier Latin. But Koffi refused and said that he wanted Tutu Calugi in his band. So he then decided to work on his album Constat with help of Sec Bidens & Alain Makaba.

Koffi did good to refused in Quartier Latin. He would not fit in there. It was also a big mistakr for him to join Maison Mere. I might be the only one but I always think he didn't fit to Maison Mere even if his song Effet Placebo is a hit.

Yeah. It was a big mistake of him to join Maison Mere. In for me he didn't also fit there. Wenge BCBG was his place. The day before he had to join Maison Mere at Bercy, Wenge BCBG came to Paris. And JB Mpiana sended his staff to Aimelia, to propose him to rejoin Wenge BCBG at LSC. Because it would a big humilation for JB Mpiana if he decided to Maison Mere, since that Patient Kusangila and Burkina Faso joined. With them then saying that he had to talk first Titina & Alain Mpela, before meeting J.B. Mpiana. Which made Aimelia furious so he decided then to join Maison Mere.

yeah jb for some reason still maintain that policy that if a former important member wants to make a permanent return or some sort of return like tutu he has to discuss with the chefs first, but some like lias see it as humiliation while some like tutu see it like a normal process and then automatically reclaim their authority, maybe lias feared he'd end up being at same level as chai and rio
jb still holds some grudge against aimelia until today which is why when aimelia visited bcbg few years ago,he made a eye order to the th remaining team to leave podium and let aimelia with djino and co which aimelia found insulting

@mvulusi96 side note, Mere Eve passed away in 2008 after being sick for some years. Sad because she took car of most artists when they can to Paris early in their careers. Helped them with lodging, finding women, and papers. I heard it made Wemba depressed since they were so close. They seemed like lovers

Pepe Akundji & Christiana Kwassa still have their restaurants, but are no longer active on the scene like they used to. They used to all go on stage at all the big concerts

Knowing Aimelia's strong personality, why would JB Mpiana require him to talk to Titina and Mpela first before rejoining BCBG? He should of known that such a gesture would of have been preceived as a disingenuous attempt at reconciliation by Aimelia.

In the end, Aimelia made the right choice because if he returned to BCBG then they would of made less of him than what position he had under Werrason.

I know, if he rejoined BCBG he would have the same role he had before TH. I don't know if heard the CD-version of Olympia & Zenith (both cd's vol. 1& 2). His voice is the "cachee" of BCBG, since that he is one of the co-founders. He didn't fit in Maison Mere. He far behind Baby Ndombe & Ferre Gola. While in BCBG he was the number three after Mpela. He didn't also know to dance, etc. Many fans of Maison Mere were complaing about him and that saying that he didn't fit. Digitalcongo made even an article about him back in 2003 about his poor dancing skills, that his voice wasn't made for Maison Mere and that it was a mistake to join them. He was just like an orange. They contacted him trought Didi Kinuani because they felt that Adjani would leave very soon. They were at that moment also looking for a replacer for Serge Mabiala. With Ferre Gola coming on the end with Kabose. But both artists didn't leave after pressure from Maison Mere-fans, which made return to Kinshasa. They dumped Aimellia when Maison Mere was fully recovered from Les Marquis-split, having Miel as his replacer and doing those nasty 12 to him. Which made him leave Maison Mere with tears

I think that you mean Mere Malu.

Mere Evelyne Ngongolo is Brazzaville and was in the past a famous dancer back in the '60s & '70s. Then became one of those girls who were supporting artists of OK Jazz, Bantou de la Capitale, etc. Then settle in Paris in 1981. You celebrated her 60th birthday in 2013.

Tchoko really ruined Mere Malou's skin. I remember her being black, when she danced for Tabu Ley in the 70's.

The irony of Blaise's situation kiekiekie :D He used dirty tactics to isolate former members of Wenge Music which later became the reason of his own defection.

I had no idea that Aimelia tried to join Quarter Latin, could you imagine what Effrakata, Affaire d'État, and Monde Arab would sound like had he been recruited?

Aimelia's vocal work with Quartier Latin would likely mirror that of Mustapha, had he remained with the group since both their singing style is similar.

Why did Aimelia's debuting album Constat lacked impact upon it's release? It was a solid album, but it had no video clips or any kind of legitimate promotion. Which is sad considering the hard work that went into recording the album.

Why were they trying to replace Serge Mabiala, isn't he one of Maison Mere's most reliable vocalist? In addition to that, Werrason must have some serious respect for Adjani because I've seen him ignore other group members for far less serious problems.

To this day, I can't understand how someone that talented could risk all that promised success for drugs...someone must of done kindoki or something towards him.

Your analysis on Aimelia's career with Masion Mere is right, he never really could settle with his band members. Although he could sing exceptional well, he fell far behind when it came to choreography just check out 5:35 of their Zenith dance section...I laughed the whole way through!

Aimelia started to shoot videoclips when the album was released. But the during the shooting he received a call from Didi Kinuani to join Maison Mere and abandon that project.

Blaise Bula did not do the same dirty Mpela, etc. did to him. His role was just to attack Werrason on the mic with words in concerts. Since that JB didn't want to do that (hypocrite ?) so he used Blaise Bula. During that time there was a rivalery in the band bana mindele (JB, Blaise & later Makaba) vs Ba Japonais (Werrason, Masela & Adolphe).

They wanted to replace a Mabiala, because they thought that he would stay in Europe. That almost happened. But fans made him return. Adjani still normal at that time, But became big headed after their Europe-tour and Solola Bien getting suspended many times. Adjani's life changed after Kibuisa Mpimpa. Yeah alot of people say that one of the tenoriste cursed him, since they feared him alot. But other says that Werrason sacrifice him. But I think that he did this all by himself, like Babia who started to get contact with bad friends and gangster who were in that world of drugs. I don't what it is but alot artists from N'djili have the same problem or a strange career.

As far as the possible cause of Adjani's downfall, I agree with you that a mix of bad friends and his growing income created his addiction problem.

As for Babia, I feel like he was generally an undisciplined artist. Babia showed that he couldn't be trusted as a long-term member before the drug scandal occured, do you remember when he abandoned the group during the European leg of the Magie tour?

Despite that mistake, Koffi brought him back into the group and he continued on with his contributions to V12 . However, after being left off the albums for Loi and Ultimatum, it should of become apparent that his position within the group was slowly becoming compromised.

In my opinion, his last chance at successful career was the creation of Quarter Latin Academia. Even though the original roster of the group didn't survive past a first album, at least he could continued with Academia under Sam, been recruited by another group, or go solo based off of  the popularity the group had amassed from the success of Santion.

Unfortunately, he remained loyal to Koffi and even though it got him significant vocal appearances on Attentat, he was left behind for Bercy and subsequent tours/albums by Quarter Latin.

In the music business, loyalty should goes only as far as both people stand to benifit. As soon as the relationship is no longer that of significant mutual interest, then loyalty doesn't make sense anymore.

I don't think that Babia would fit in Academia's formation of 1999. Maybe that of 2000, when Suzuki, etc. joined. ,but not of 1999. If Koffi didn't broguht Babia to Bercy because he tought that he would ran away like in 1994 and 1998 and he was very addicted to drugs. When they were preparing Attentat he sold his Mercedez Benz in parts, which Koffi bought for him and the rest of team which remained loyal after the creation Academia created. He sold first the car tires, then the rearview mirror, etc., etc. He was attacking strange sometimes which was hurting his friends. This all made Koffi take Mutshapha instead to Bercy instead of him. Babia became then very dirty and starting asking for money to people on the streets. I remember a woman living in Brussels saying that she wanted to give him some money, but then a shegue took that away and said that Babia doesn't deserve it and gived it her back. That shegue said that he didn't deserve it since that he was dissing artists very hard on tv when he was in Quartier Latin (Papa Wemba, Nyoka Longo, JB Mpiana and Academia). Babia then participated on Shora Mbemba's album Cyclone with Beniko Popolipo and was invited by Academia at their concert in GHK. But despite that he stayed in Quartier Latin, but had then problems to adapt to the formation who made Force de Frappe and started to act more and more strangely. Which made Koffi leave him again behind in Kinshasa and he decided then to join Jolino with Bendoson who failed with his Nouvelle Ecriture de l'An after that Pompom Miyake, Ramazani & Christian na Nzenze left.

they are like twins haha. They loved each otther so much. It would have been interesting if they decided to record an duo-album around 2006, like Papa Wemba & Koffi Olomide or Tabu Ley & Luambo Makiadi. They would have won alot of money. Now it's to late they are so "kidiba". So sad while Clan Langa Langa profited alot with reunion-concerts, fara-fara concerts on the same stage and reunion albums.

Yeah. When Babia stayed in Europe waiting for Quartier Latin he joined Modogo Gianfranco Ferre's band Place Vendome for a moment and it's from there where he got in touch with the wrong people (drugsdealers, gangsters, etc.) and started to use drugs, while before that he didn't even drink alcohol.

So Koffi tried to give Babia a chance to be apart of Force de Frappe? I've always thought that Koffi washed his hands of  Babia when he wasn't allowed to join QL in Bercy of 2000.

That must have been painful for Koffi to watch him fall apart to such vices, maybe that's why he never officially kicked him out the group because of pity of what Babia could have become.

Yeah, I heard he tried to pay for his rehabiliation to help him recover on a few occasions, but it didn't work. Similar case with Eric Tutsi

Babia was so appreciated he used to sing Koffi's parts at repetitions in the 90's

Eric Tutsi had a drug problem too?! :o

yeah, he had the same problem

after leaving Quartier Latin in 2001 and his collaboration with Jolino. He returned to Quartier Latin in 2003, when Quartier Latin returned from their Europe-tour.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ph6v9aCsSFg

After that he had to travel to Europe for Zenith and the recordings of Monde Arabe, but he was left behind on the airport. Then things were going worse with him and after that he became very ill and was brought to the hospital where they did surgery on him. Journalist and owner of Visa 2000 & Palmares Michel Lady Luya (R.I.P.) paid everything for him, his hospitalisation and surgery. But since that Lady Luya in conflict with his boss, Koffi sended Babia when he recovered to attack him on tv and denieying that he helped him. Which made people hate Babia more and seeing him as a ungrateful guy, after having alot of compassion for him when he struggled on the streets. Then his situation in Quartier Latin was so/so with journalists like Raissa Mombili, Thierry Dawa, etc. started to ridiculize him in interviews the way he was dressed and talking.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=er_RhCFHTt8
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vkHMj3ZJlNo

Despite all those problems he participated on the chorus of B.E.K. From 2008 things started going well. He was fully recovered, he kicked off from drugs, dumped his bad friends, divorced from his ex'wife Nicky (the mother of Prince Babia) and started then a new life. He became a musulman and started dating Alima Djamal. But is role didn t change in Quartier Latin he was still doing those dirty jobs (attacking Felix Wazeka, Werrason & Fally Ipupa). His love for Koffi was at the same very big.

That video interview of him was hard to watch, that man reached rock bottom! I'm just glad he finally overcame his addiction, although it was a long and painful recovery.

Had he not died, do you believe that Babia could of made a stable career for himself? Last I heard, he was attempting a solo career from Angola before he died. Did Koffi ever acknowledge him after he passed away?

Babia has a complete album that was never released and it'll likely stay that way. I remember hearing the generique, which sounded very good and being excited. Very Koffi inspired arrangement & mabanga style. Mawa trop, RIP

Of course, Koffi was the main guys speaking at his funeral with a huge turn out of musicians. He tried many times to help him through his situations. I know the some of the press tried to make him look like a bad guy anyways to generate attention

Wow, I've never heard this song before! I'll give Koffi credit, he did what he could for Babia. It was a stroke that killed him, correct?

To say the truth it's because of Koffi that Babia went to settle in Angola. Because he had to be arrested the way he was insisting to do a Babia chante Koffi-concert. It started all when he left. He left because he was angry the why Cindy killed Quartier Latin was privileged with everything and him and the others guys only doing the chorus in concerts. While in his opinion she hadn't that right because she wasn't one guys who contributed alot to make Quartier Latin the band who it was. Started to tall Quartier Latin, Quartier Cindy and he made then many interviews. He started than a own band with internet-journalist Mathy Kasongo being one of the singers, working on his solo album and making many intervies about the his career, the he made mistakes in the past, how Cindy killed Quartier Latin in his opinion, etc.. He anncounced then that he would correct Cindy chante Koffi by doing Babia chante Koffi. With Koffi being furious and calling many journalists to say that he had to stop to do that otherwise he would arrest him. Kisindjora who is her cousin was supporting him. Then Koffi made one interview saying that he is finished, that only Fally and Ferre have the right to do a chante Koffi and not Babia because he finished and also saying that he could sing other artists. But Babia refusing. Then he made an interview along with Eric Tutsi and Sam Tshintu singing their hits and Sam convincing him to abdon that project. But after that he was still continuing with it.Then he was invited by Boneaventure Engobo in Oyo (Congo Brazzaville) to do a Babia chante Koffi and Babia got there alot of money, but refused share it with Kisindjora. Which made her furious and her saying that he would not see him until he will die (not knowing that it was one of his last years). He was continuing to do those many internet interviews until that there was a arrest warrant against him, because that Koffi sued him about wanting to do a Babia chante Koffi and plagiat of his generique Jeune Pato from Abacadabra. So Babia went to Angola to escape and his wife and their little children followed him then later. He meeted their his old friends, Zobozi and many donors. He continued with recording his album there, doing many interviews where he attacked Cindy and giving many Babia chante Koffi-concerts. In meantime he was working on a trip to Paris for the mixing of his album. In his last days he had a problem with his friend/cousin Celezino. Just because he said that he had to stop insulting people in internet, which didn't please him with him recording more than 10 interviews to insult Babia. People were happy about Babia the way things were better with him. But in he was suffering alot in his private life. This was because he wife Alima Djamal was cheating on him many times. He coughts his wife many times with other man. The most rude moment was when he was performing and people rushing to him and saying that they saw his wife doing it in a car with someone else with him following the people and seeing his wife there. But he was always still staying with her. Then on his last day, it was the last or 2 days before he had to go to Paris. He went to the house of his wife or ex'wife (they were apprently not living together anymore) and he saw there a man with a fight starting with Alima not knowing what to do. Then we don't know what happened after that only she knows how it ended. But the most people say that the man beated him so hard or that he beated him with a object which made him lose his consciousness with then the ambulance coming, but he died then in the hospital. With them his wife saying that he died of stroke. Not long after that she leftfrom Luanda and went to Lubumbashi. Because people in Angola wanted to beat and kill her. Koffi saw that he was wrong all the times and decided to do evertyhing for his "pire petit" and paid the funerals and helped by paying the hospital and bringing his body from Luanda to Kinshasa. Babia's album was finished for 90% and Koffi wanted to release it with his then new label Koffi Central. But then his uncles in Kinshasa refused and said that it had to be released by a big label or producer, which made the album getting not released until this day.

here you got some videos about this all. It amaze me how alot of video's are deleted from youtube. There was a video on Congomikili's deleted youtube-channel were Babia gaved some extraits of his album Vrai Moment and calling himself Papoite (which meant the boss in Portugese).

It sounds like a fight that tragically got out of hand, because after that altercation it seemes like Babia died from a head injury (internal bleeding maybe). That's so sad! He should of divorced his wife after all those incidences of infidelity, why did he continue to remain married to her?

His death is very similar to Cellulaire of BCBG; the problem with their wives and professional career proved much to their downfall.

They should of released his album under Koffi, it would have been a proper send off. After all, that's all he really wanted in the end; to be apart of Quartier Latin.
