Not yet, the problem is that Congolese people really don't know or take serious BET and for other Francophones the same, for Congolese and Francophone people is more important to play at Olympia or at Zenith rather than winning BET's

Both, I mean Ckngolese-French artist mainly do French music but uses rap, trap or afrobeat or orchestra as Maître Gims do, they are definitely Congolese national and mind wise, Maitre Gims doesn't even have French nationality yet

this is just like francis kakonde rightfully said in a recent interview,our musicians and their fans if they want proper unity should fight for trophies for the pride of DRC and not for their own pride in order to mock rivals,if there was that unity DRC could win far more trophies

He never said he was agai.st his origins he only said it is unfair to not being considered French despite the impact he had on French music he said "I feel a strong connection both with Congo and France I feel I am a European and an African artist because I represent both" he never said he didn't like being Congolese the guy who really hate being Congolese and black it is Michy Batshuayi the Chelsea player who said "I am black only because of my parents, I am born here (In Belgium) grown here (in Belgium) and I have never been to Africa so as a man and as a Sportsman I will always feel and be Belgian"

@Manzambi ; I didn’t say he was against being Congolese, he just wants to be viewed as French. Not sure if you saw his interview on French national television, but Maître Gims basically said he should not be looked to speak out on issues in the DRC because he is a part of French culture, not Congolese culture. He further stated that there nothing he could do to change the situation (kinda true). But he never hesitated to publicly speak about the injustices in Syria. That’s what made diaspora people online, like Voice of Congo and Macdeddy’s page pissed off.
He was denied french citizenship because it was discovered that he was legally married to two women at the same time - A Morrocan girl who he had children with and DemDem, his Malian girl he’s seen in public with.

Michy Batshuayi‘s situation is pretty disgraceful I must say. The athletes who speak like that (American or European) usually have a white gf or wife.

Yes that is what drives me mad about Congolese fans, I mean Fally has 30 m views Ferre 5 Werra 3 Fabro 9 Felix 2 Koffi 13 on their most viewed video which is 63 million of views but no one of the fans will support the other one and that's said, I mean these are the things who pushes music behind, just think about the Koffi, JB situation or the Blaise Bula Werra situation JB will probably beat you if you talk about Koffi in good way in his presence, and Koffi only accept guys from big groups only if they insult their former boss so he can weaken their former boss and so on, a huge number of strategic and Macchiavellianic tricks.
And @Matebu, I don't think he meant to say that (Mâitre Gims) I think he meant to say that being a Muslim he feels more close to Syrian than Congolese (ironically even black Muslims in Arab world are treated like shit, getting beaten up if the Arab team is loosing in African cup or getting sold like slave when there isn't a government) he has grown up in France though so like Mbappe and many other Africans born in France they don't have a strong connection with the homeland, for Batshuayi I think his parents are to blame, because if you feel Belgian just say I refuse DRC without making all those rants on how much Belgium you are, I mean if you stop to play football, and maybe you will not earn as much as you were doing when you were playing your wife will be still there? HIGHLY doubtful. Wizkid broke the glass ceiling when he had that track with Drake late last year. Other than that Afropop isn't popular in the US like it is in countries like France, UK, the Netherlands etc. I'd rather like to see our artists earn a Grammy award that has more weight and recognition than a BET award. Just my opinion.

Papa Wemba who had alot of succes with his album Emotion in 1995 with the hit-single 'Fa Fa Fa Fa' and the hits 'Yolele', 'Show Me The Way' & 'Rail On' didn't even get nominated in 1996 for that category. The same thing with the Le Voyageur-album of 1992.
Papa Wemba could have done more in his world-music career, but the Congolese community didn't understand his vision and his staff complaing how Wenge & Koffi and his 'petit' Reddy were taking his place. Which made him make a return. I could have been bigger than Youssou N'dour.

In the mid 90's the "world music" wave was basically done. If he continued, he would've ended like Kester or at best Magic System (making clownish music) and never gave us "Foridoles", a true masterpiece. Foridoles is superior to all his "world music" albums.

Which made some people angry saying why someone who came later then Wemba in the word-music genre could have achieved so many things. Yes Magic System's music doesn't make sens but they got respect in France, Belgium and Switerland, what many African artists are looking for in Europe and never receive. They have a mixed public if they give their concerts (60% of the people being white, arab of from the West-Indies), while if other African artists perform in Europe then 80% or 90% comes from Africa. They also received many platina discs and were several times in the top10 of the French, Swis and Belgian musicharts,something what African-artists are dreaming. African artists and their public want to see their music be respected in Europe and the US.

Because Reddy and Stino were holding the flag of Viva La Musica with their albums and he still had a big fanbase, giving huge crowded concerts back in 1991 & 1993 for Bracongo. His worldmusic-career boosted him more and made him tour all the continents (Asia, Europe, America,.). I don't think that his death would have created a earthquake if he didn't had a worldmusic-carreer.
The other problem with Emeneya was that he didn't had major recordlabel behind him and he guys like Malembe Chante & Mabusele didn't have the succes Reddy & Stino had. Everybody (1993) was produded by Sonodisc who promotes in music in Africa and the West-Indies (Caraibes) and Latin America, the way it was promoting Koffi's albums and the public their was not used to those synthesizers only wanting Soukous

Youssou N'dour comes from Senegal. Their ties with France are different, "specials" I might say. That's the reason Youssou N'dour received al these opportunities. He had a lot of "push" that Wemba did not had. You talk about the Kirikou stuff or the World cup. At that point, nobody cared about Youssou N'dour musically. This is a point JB talk about all the time. Those opportunities are more political than anything. Senegal is loved and seen as a cultural african bastion by the french elite. Those things does mean much in reality. Another example is Angelique Kidjo. She had one hit Years agoooo but she kept having grammies for best african or whatever world music album even though nobody cared for her and her music whether in Africa or in the West. She's barely known at this point but she has grammies.
I don't know about N'dour receiving multiples platines album. But his success in the West was in the early 90's. During the same period Wemba sold a lot of album too, I thing 500/000 units for Emotion or le Voyageur. But as I say, the world music wave was done by the mid-90's. Even Kester finally let go of his dream of breaking into the western market. Wemba did everything that could've been done at that level (people forgot that Wemba was being invited on national french television in the 80's playing with huge rockers !). But by the mid-90's, the party was over ! Nobody cared about all that fusion pop/3rd world music anymore. It was a fade. All the Wemba, Ndour, Salif Keita, etc did not have the same access to the western market they had in the late 80's/early 90's.
Also, don't forget even in Senegal, people were blaming Youssou Ndour for not being the first to make it into Bercy. Koffi, a congolese, did that. Until this day, when Youssou Ndour comes to Bercy, he will bring a huge number or senegalese musicians just to be able to fill it.
Youssou Nd'our is basically a one hit wonder. He's local senegalese musician with international connects. Nothing else. He's not a bigger musician than Papa Wemba.
Yeah, Magic was able to sustain because they basically make clownish western music. Magic does not make african music anymore. This is what Wemba should have done ? don't think so ? And Magic is not international. They are just french musicians. Even at the international level, they did not surpass Wemba.
To me, when it comes to his international career, Wemba did what should've been done : he strikes the iron when it was hot; when it got played out, he came back to his roots and gave us classics. Kester should've done the same thing instead of trashing his career with "Everybody", not a bad album, but it came out too late.
