the quality of the Everybody is better, but I prefer Live in Paris because of the sebene and the animations of Code Niawu, Washifa & Emeneya. I liked also the drumming skills of Djudju-chet Luvengoka in that album but Everybody everything is done with the computer and keyboards even the sebenes. So I can't understand why Congolese people weren't liking Everybody. I think that the album would have been better received if he released the Live in Paris-version instead of the original-everybody album. Emeneya went really quiet after Everybody until he released Pas de Contact. With people saying that he was finished, that his nkisi of Kikwit were expired, that Victoria Eleison was death and Koffi mocking him in the press. He tried to make a big comeback with Succes Fous which was in the style that Congolese people were liking but it also not well received because of people wanting to hear animations from atalaku's like in the albums of Wenge and Quartier Latin instead of Emeneya doing all the animations by himself.

It was well promoted and better received than Everybody. The VHS sold very well. It was one of the most sold VHS's of 1995.

On the vhs I noticed that they're two concerts recorded in LSC.

yeah, one was a private concert for his staff, family and friends to present Everybody. I don't remember if it was one week before the release or after. The other concert was to present his then new album Everybody to the public. I think that they released the VHS and cd 2 years later to bring him back to the spotlights after having disappeared for a long time the cd/casette-market. Giving sometimes here and there concerts in Paris, London and Brussels. In my opinion he had already to return to Kinshasa when he released Everybody. He had lost all his fans to Wenge Musica and Wenge EL Paris. Some became fans of Papa Wemba who was settled in Paris but was returing many times to Kinshasa for concerts with Reddy, Stino, Joly satisfy their public by releasing solo-albums.

I don't understand why Emeneya never admitted he was going down in success.

Was Everybody was originally planned to be released in 1992?

No, it was planned for 1993 and got released in May 1993.

In 1992 they made Reponse Ya Polo Kina. There is a video of Marie Paul talking when they returned to Paris after their second trip to Kinshasa with him & Manda Chante having bought songs in Kikwit for their next album. But Emeneya coming then and asking about those songs with Marie Paul forcing Manda Chante to give Emeneya the song Nzila Velele. With some others songs of Marie Paul being given to Emeneya (Litanie of Succes Fous for example).

I don't understand why Emeneya never admitted he was going down in success.

hahaha are you crazy. We are Congolese people not Europeans or Americans. If you will admit that you'are finished then it's over for you. You never get the chance from the public to prove yourself. The public of Kinshasa is very difficult to convice. Also don't forget that Emeneya is a true yankee. Which yankee will admit in public that he's going done. You must to be a real yuma to say that.

So the song Nzila Velele was originally written from people in Kikwit?

Fair point us Congolese people like to criticize people.

Yeah, alot songs of Emeneya, Marie Paul, Lidjo Kwempa, Stino Mubi, Paul Ndombe and Tabu Ley were songs coming from Kikwit. Even gospel songs. Dernier Sommeil d'Amour which Marie Paul sung for example is a old song coming from Kikwit. Emeneya used to sing that with Lidjo Kwempa when they were studying in Kikwit back in the early 70's.

I'm surprised that song is 40 years old.

Pas de Contact was released in 1995 or 1996 ? It was also a flop wasn't it ? Hiw Polo Kina was received in Kinshasa ? you told me that this album was well received in 1992 in Europe so what about Kin ?

It possible that those songs are older. Maybe that Emeneya and Lidjo got that song from guys older then them. Stino's song Mista for example was already sung by Paul Ndombe's band in Kikwit. Emeneya used to sing a song in the 80's of Victoria which used to be Paul Ndombe's song. Marie Paul wanted to sing Dernier Sommeil d'Amour along with JB Mpiana in Wenge Musica, but Werrason refused him to put a song in the Kin E Bouge-album.

Pas de Contact was released in 1995 with the VHS of videoclips being released in 1996. But it wasn't well received. With people saying that Malembe Chant was killing Victoria Eleison with his songs in the Minzoto Wella Wella-style and that he didn't had the power to defend Victoria Eleison. But me I liked Auguy Lutula's songs well Mifune, Stephie Tchocko, Nina and J.C. Ngimbi. Polo Kina was well received in both sides because of Auguy Lutula's song Dandy which was a banger.

Koffi was mocking him in the press damn it's crazy how he treated Papa Wemba and Kester despite the fact that really help him in the 70's and them being close. It seems like Koffi and Kester used to always criticize each other a lot in public. Did they have a serious beef ? By example Koffi didn't appreciate the fact Spino spoke well of Kester while he was in Quartier Latin and the fact that Kester was featured in Beniko's album, him and Papa Wemba trying to sabotate his Zenith (I think it was pure jealousy)

I never knew Dandy was a hit in Kin as well. I can see why Emeneya reworked it for Mboka Mboka.

It was a love-hate relation. They used to be the best friends. But thing which ruined their relation was that Emeneya's ex'wife wanting to revenge Emeneya for sleeping with her former best BFF Liliane(who would become Emeneya's wife later). So she slept with Koffi. This all killed everything with them not talking each other years long until they met eachother in Abidjan which started first with a fight. Despite that Koffi was still liking Kester and Kester still liking Koffi. But to be n1 Koffi was doing everything to put Emeneya down and later also Papa Wemba by stealing their girlfriends, mocking and dissing them in public, saboting their careers (for example blocking the second stock of Fula Ngenge which in 2000 not more avaible in shops since that it sold very well) by calling concertpromoter not to produce them, etc.

About Spino, it was more Koffi not trusting him to bring him to Europe with Depitsho who didn't like him starting to talk bad about him towards Koffi. Koffi himself was thinking that he would ran away and he was right because when he went in 2001 with Wenge Tonya Tonya to Europe he ran away. But Koffi liked Spino alot. He had vocals in Attentat and animated a little bit in Kamutshima in Tshiluba. He left Quartier Latin because of Montana who was gossping about him. Saying that Spino wanted to challenge him by getting better dressed them him which made Koffi change his attitude towards him. With Spino then deciding to join Wenge Tonya Tonya. I found it pity he left Quartier Latin, because he started like Soleil to get his place in the band.

I don't know. It can be the bunch of songs Marie Paul bought in Kikwit from that songwriter who died or one of those many songwriters he had.

The live album reminds of Evoloko album when he performed the songs Mbongue Mbongue and Nene Moustache.

Those songwriters had a lot of inspiration and creativity even Lidjo Kwempa song Ceci Cela which saved Papa Wemba's career in 1983.

Ceci Cela was done by Lidjo himself. Viva-fans were happy to having Lidjo in their band, because back in those days people were saying that Lidjo was giving Emeneya songs. All songwriters have a lot of inspiration and creativity.

Good point.
