I found these guys by accident. I listened to first few tracks. It's interesting. What style of music is this? It's not like sebenes we are used to. Tidal had them promoted.

in DRC that style is called musique de recherche(something like intellectual music) if you know or heard about jean goubald,he came from this group

I'll have to check out his solo material. Any other bands to check out this style? I know staff Benda bilili. Congolese haven't been as productive lately. I see many other African genres releasing constantly.

I have been following Jupiter since he was discovered by the west...ie around 2005...I met him in Kin and he is one of the most serious and focused musician...
His latest album earned him a page and an article in the New York Times, a piece in the Guardian, Der Spiegel and many renowned world papers. I went to one of his concerts last summer in the US..and I tell you it was very entertaining...they seem to be getting a lot of money from the concerts....also after the US they did many concerts in Mexico.
He is a son of a diplomat who decided to go back to Congo and abbandon the rich and posh life.

Funny that Obama listens to him while not many on this forum care about him or even people in the Congo....I have a DVD about him that was made circa 2005...go on youtube and search Jupiters Dance.

He also collabotated with Damon Albarn.

Oh wow. Yeah I was browsing tidal and discovered him. I am familiar with Damon Albarn I need to locate that project.

It's funny how the congolese music we know doesn't get much promotion. No one ever knows about it. But alot of other genres in Africa get more exposure.

Local musicians brag about knowing this and that president while Jupiter lowkey is known worldwide, once again "moto abombani aleki yo mayele" anyaway guys Congolese music is not limited to Ndombolo and Rumba, there are plenty of musicians with different styles.

I think don't think issue is whether or not Congolese music is limited, the problem is if other genres are equally promoted and if Congolese people are receptive to it.

Rumba and Ndombolo has saturated/monopolized the Congolese music industry for decades, so other genres are going to fall under the radar if we allow it to.
