Can someone list me in order which year the popular groups came out? For example I know OK Jazz was formed before Zaiko etc, but I'm fascinated to learn the years each bands came to existence and if possible, how they came about.

African Jazz in 1953, Ok Jazz in 1956, Zaiko in 1969, Empire Bakuba in 1972,.... You can look on information about those bands onbooks like Rumba on the River, etc. You also a site Mbokasika which has alot of information. There was a video on Mengi Massamba's channel with Oscar Kashama & Vicky Longomba explaining how OK Jazz was founded. But a fool deleted Mengi Massamba's which made alot rare video's of the 70's and 80's being deleted. Ok Jazz was created by musicians of recordlabel Loningisa who were recording songs there since 1953 until 1956.

Lol yes a long list indeed. Empire Bakuba ya Pepe Kalle? Founded in 1972? Seriously? And thanks for the info.

With Pepe Kalle, Empire Bakuba was actually founded in 1973. But Pepe Kalle had a band called Africa Choc which was formed in 1968 or 1970 after he was a member of Papa Noel's La Bamboula which he supposedly sang alongside with Madilu, Bozi Boziana, Aime Kiwakana, and Papy Tex according to Madilu himself in a 1999 interview. Then in 1971 or 1972, he created Les Bakuba then in 1973, he changed it to Empire Bakuba with Dilu Dilumona and Papy Tex. Madilu claims to be a member of Les Bakuba but never heard his voice on any Les Bakuba records (I heard he sang on Nzele of Les Bakuba). That is how Pepe Kalle began. He was a guest man for Orchestre Veve, Bella Bella of Soki Vangu and Lipua Lipua of Nyboma (before Nyboma created Les Kamale).
