I know that Ferre made a huge success with Vita-Imana (which was the most successful song of Solola Bien with the generique and Augustine) but the year after Fally released Eternellement and the song was also successful. So what song do you think actually made the most success ? I would like to know your opinion

Eternellement, no question. Everyone wanted to be like Fally back then
-
Vita Imana no doubt
-
In Kenya Vita Imana is like an anthem. It is appreciated and instantly recognized by people with other musical preferences besides Congolese music. Eternellement is known only among diehard Rhumba addicts. The Fally song that has broken barriers over here is Associe. So on that scale, on radio and the club scene Vita Imana takes a huge lead but among Rhumba enthusiasts difficult to tell.

I agrre eith Associe. Associe and Liputa are the song who are the most known and loved by Congolese people because it was his first Album while Ferre except for his last 8/9 years didn't have really an impact in the rumba department, because his marketing team.was bad.

People are now comparing Vita Imana and Eternellement, because Fally is a big star now. But back in those days nobody was comparing Vita Imana to Eternellement. People starting comparing the two songs when Ferre joined Quartier Latin, starting doing it on skyblog (I don't know if it still exists). I always laugh if I see people claiming on facebook and instagram that Eternellement was succesfuller than Vita Imana, like they witnessed the succes of both songs, but when I look their personal pages then I always discover that they were born in the mid or late 90s.
I don't really like Ferre, but we need to tell the truth. In 2000, it was about Werrason vs JB Mpiana and when the two albums of the guys came out (Solola Bien & TH) it took DR Congo by storm. Vita Imana was then a very huge succes when Solola Bien came out. Back in those days it was one of the two most listened rumba's of 2000. People starting fighting about which was the best rumba between 48 Heures Gecoco and Vita Imana.
Eternellement was also a succes, but not on level of Vita Imana. Dulcinee of Eric Tutsi which was on the same album (Force de Frappe) had a bigger succes. But many people forget about that. It took also some time for people to accept Koffi's Force de Frappe which is always the case when he was releasing bandalbums and solo albums.

Nobody wanted to be like Fally then, back in those days people were dreaming to be like Alain Mpela (Chef du Gouvernement), Werrason, Papa Wemba or JB Mpiana. People wanted to be like Fally when Droit Chemin started to get succes with the young generation wanting his haircut. This reminds me about Papa Wemba's career with people trying to change the history before his solo career.

Yes Fally's droit chemin was the thing but in reality before that QL wasn't much known for his solo artist and we must not forget that Bill, Celeo, Ferre, Heritier and the rest of the dream team were the most recognizible faces in Congo

Also when he started that Droit Chemin-project, people weren't believing in his album succeeding (including me). I think that the war between Koffi against Fally boosted the album more (About Fally not more coming to QL-concerts and Koffi saying that he never authorized Fally to give concerts for his album), because in the two months it was so/so. Also journalists like Naty Lokole, Arsene Kamango, etc. supporting him with huge promotion helped him alot. With them being fed up with the old generation (JB Mpiana, Werrason, Koffi Olomide, etc) who wanted always to control/dominate them.
I remember Naty Lokole trying to convince Soleil Wanga, Didier Lacoste, etc. in interviews to start their solo career, giving them the example of Fally Ipupa.
-
I can't believe the two are actually being compared... I mean it's Vita Imana lol
YO NELYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYEH OOOHHH-OHHH NELLY EH MWANA MABE
I was born in the late 90's and I still know this song goes hard and was much more successful than Eternellement.
Why are there so many Fally purists trying to revise the rivalry between those two on social media anyways? I feel like they do the same thing between Clan Wenge vs QL.

@mvulusi96
I'm surprised people didn't think Droit Chemin would be successful. Fally always stole the show in concerts with his dance solos, he had great songs in the group albums of Quartier Latin, and had a media friendly personality that journalist like...that pretty much the reciepe for a great solo artist!
-
Fally's charm, dancing skills and singing skills has elevated his popularity. His sound, Rumba R&B, also is another fact in his success.
What's next for him?
-
Vita Imana for me .If you listen to it live the Bercy version.When the crowd sang it was just pure gold.The crowd went with the sound.
-
Dulcinee of Eric Tutsi which was on the same album (Force de Frappe) had a bigger succes. But many people forget about that.

You must understand that QL wasn't and it isn't maison mere the only successful solo artist coming out from there are Ferre and Brigade who were Maisoj Mere members beside Fally not even a single guy has managed to have a successful solo career for 10+ years, when Fally went solo QL was not known for having solo artist, Fally took a huge risk by leaving QL with Koffi not being happy about it, with fans and people thinking he was crazy to leave QL being the Golden Child and that probably his album would have flopped still to these days Ferre sees Fally as one of his petit, because when he was in QL Fally was desperately trying to copy the Wenge style so people were surprise that droit chemin had this success.

Brigade is a QL guy not Maison Mere he was already brigade when he joined Maison Mere this is a fact he came from Latino and you're saying when fally went solo no one in QL was not known for having a solo artist okay so what about Maison Mere then? Cause it was the same thing. Just cause you're a Maison Mere fan don't try and rewrite history like that

Actually Brigade was always a Maison Mere member since the time of Intervetion Rapid but since he wasn't finding space he went to Koffi, he tried to Join towards Alerte Generale period but Werra told him in 2004 that since he wouldn't have much space with Roi David, Kene Kene and Celeo to go backcto QL for a second time and he stayed in QL until he finally joined as the big recruit officially in 2006 with the mxi single sous-sol furthermore all of the QL members in interviews tells every journalist that the Atalaku had to do the same exact thing that Bill and Celeo was doing so to me Brigade even though he have done some great work with Generatioj Bercy, Bord Ezanga Kombo generique Danger De Mort and many other generique by Koffi need to give his success to Maison Mere, the only successfuk guy out of QL ILis Fally, Ferre and Brigade omly made vacation in QL we need to be honest about it.
Why doee he shout Sankara De Kunta despite initially singing one of the criee lls he had done for Koffi?
https://youtu.be/nb-CWW7WvLM
Simple he thought he would have been a Maison Merer and ij fact after that crie he start with the cries of Sous Sol

@Manzambi94
If Werrason disliked Celeo so much and respected Brigade's talent so much, why not replace him with Brigade around the time of Solola Bien? I suspect Brigade tried out join the group but never was an official member; not even a reserve member.
Keep in mind, Werrason was actively searching for a relacement for Celeo before the concert of Bercy. Remember, the affair of Celeo and dancer Bibiche was a factor in the attempt to replace him with atalaku Doudou Kibinda and even Ocean of El Paris with the assistance of staff member Wasenga Kimpuni.
However, the group members of Masion Mere (specifically Ferre Gola and Bill Clinton Kalonji) fought hard on Celeo's behalf and he managed to remain with them until Sous Sol

Because Celeo had very important friends, and Brigade was still raw for Maisom Mere (if you check some live concert he was stil struggling to maintain the viice stable for multiple hours) and because Celeo was an hard worker, he was one of most hard working members in the first team in fact even with his limited space he managed ti do something like KoYimbi Ko which has inspired milions and milions of Africans (recently Vegedream the Ivorian guy who did Allez Les Blues Allez did KoYimbi Ko during rehearsals) and how can you replace a guy like that with no reason, remember that Celeo had connections to big members of Congolese society who gave him the possibility of a great lifestyle and that is what Werra didn't like but at the same time Werra needed those connections because Wenge wasn't that big until 2003, and remember that in 2006 after Brigade falled out with Koffi Werra did actually took Brigade, after taking Roi David and he even took Prince and fired Celeo over some little minutes of late, bs excuse, but at the end it was what Werra wanted let's talk about other QL members why members of Academia didn't have a successful career? Unlike most of the Marquis? Why Soleil, Mirage, Bourro, Jipson and many other struggle to have a great solo career? Because QL isn't MMZ QL is Koffi and QL MM is Maison Mere and Werra so I don't understand why you want to give credit to Koffi with Brigade when the only credit to give to Koffi it is to have discovered Fally and to have trasform him into the star he is today.

That is rubbish. Brigade got exposure through Koffi he became Brigade through Koffi him and Kerozene gave Bill and Celeo a tough time. His first recording was in Effrakata, his first song credited to his name was in affaire d'edat which says a lot cause not many atalakus in QL had the opportunity to put songs in an album. If he participated in intervention Rapide then you might have a point. No one knew him till QL so that says a lot , you're talking like he was made out of nothing by werra which is absolute BS. If you ask him now even he'll tell you everything that I said. Okay so by your logic Deplick is a QL child cause he started with Koffi before going to Maison Mere, or Heritier is a BCBG Child since he started with BCBG. And Brigade made vacation at QL??? He was there for 4 years before leaving and then came back to to an extra 2 years so no it wasn't a vacation. But obviously I assume you were young back then so you didn't witness anything he did in Latino to be saying that.

@Manzambi94
When Brigade was recruited into Masion Mere, he was already a proven atalaku based off his contributions to Effrakata, Affaire d'Etat, and Skol Longitima.
It's similar to Robert Horry winning NBA Championships with the Lakers then again with the Rockets when he swtiched teams. The Rockets signed a proven player, they didn't create a champion. The creative relationship between Brigade and Werrason is the same, in my opinion. I understand the point you are making, it was a good one.
I have no problem discussing the career failures of the remaining Quartier Latin singers, they didn't take advantage of donors and journalist encouraging them to focus on their own careers the same way Fally did when he recorded Droit Chemin.
Remember, journalists like Naty Lokole, Arsene Kamango, and a few other media people werw supporting Fally with huge promotion because they were tired of the old generation leaders monopoly within Congolese music.
As mvulusi96 mentioned earlier, these same journalist were trying to convince Soleil Wanga among the others to consider interviews solo careers, but those guys remained loyal to Koffi despite the fact that Koffi was slowly unsettling them with Cindy and les mineurs.
In my opinion, it is not the job of Werrason nor Koffi Olomide to promote their artist's solo careers. When these leaders give those singers a song on group albums, allow those boys to have dance solos at concerts, or appear in clips...they are promoting those singers.
That's how music listeners become aware of specific members within a group and pick their favorites. The artist has a responsibility to assess the level of interest they have received from fans, donors, and journalist during their time with Masion Mere or Quartier Latin. Once they can allocate that interest into a socieconomic network towards funding an album and tour, then they can leave the group and go solo.
Bouro Mpela, Soleil, and the others left without the proper connections to promote the albums they recorded so those projects all flopped and we see them struggling to regain fan interest since their departure of Quartier Latin.

Besides the hardcore Congolese music lovers, many people don't actually recognize Brigade's work in QL even though he was better than the rest of the atalakus of his time there. Many though will remember Bebe Kero because Koffi was giving him more limelight & advantage.
Maybe Brigade did his first recordings with QL, but it was with Maison Mere that he eventually attained a superstar status. That's what Maison Mere does to it's artists. Look at Deplick, Fabro, Robinio, Miel, Jitrois etc. Even though they were from other groups, in Maison Mere they became household names of sorts & this gave them a big advantage when they finally started on their solo career.
Sometimes people question why musicians queue to join Maison Mere but I think this here is the reason why. Werrason on his own is not such a star attraction and he turned this weakness into a strength. He has learned and perfected the art of not being in competition with his own musicians. He lets them shine and in return they make him shine.
Look at Fally & F Victeam for example. It doesn't matter how good Fally's musicians are, Fally will always outshine them. He can sing better, dance better, dress better, has better looks etc. Nobody is really interested in his musicians. All they want is Fally. Same applies to Ferre & to a large extent Koffi. Because these guys don't depend so much on their musicians to shine & they can pretty do anything by themselves their musicians end being nothing more than support staff. When they leave for solo career they are either not ready for the challenge/competition or have not amassed the desired goodwill for a solo career.
