What made those in Kinshasa recorded albums Guerre de 100 Ans & Bana Congo so sound good like they were recorded in Europe compared to Sala Noki, Copinage & Amour Interdit who were also recorded in Kinshasa.

In an interview Defao made with Papy Gene he revealed that he brought Pecos to Paris to do the animations when he was about to mix the album Guerre de 100 Ans. So means it that Theo Mbala (who just left) did the original animations in both albums ? Is that also why they called Bana Congo vol. 1 made in America, because of them being at moment on tour in the US for 1 year. What is the reason that Theo Mbala decided to leave Big Stars. In interviews Theo never made it clear and he gives reasons that doesn't make sense. (for example saying that he left Defao for Bozi because of wanting to go to Europe while Bozi hadn't alot of succes like Defao at the moment when he joined Anti Choc and Defao was about to go on tour to the US).

Its a shame that they didn't had an official VHS with videoclips for Guerre de 100 Ans like they did for Tremblement de Terre. I hope that the bonus of Tremblement de Terre (when Defao praise Theo Mbala) will get uploaded one day. I wonder if mr Simon recorded at least one videoclip which he was often doing for his bands/solo artist for working for his label SIPE Production.

It wasn't recorded manquette wise. They really seriously recorded those albums in Kinshasa with help from Djudjuchet who was then their arranger like on Copinage & Tremblement de Terre. Since 2007 most albums are recorded in Kinshasa (Power, Qui est Derriere Toi, Boite Noire, B.E.K., Abacadabra,etc.) when they finish they bring those files to Europe for the mixing.

I don’t know. It happens sometimes that they lose all their datas. It happened to Emeneya who had then to re-record This Is Me again Kinshasa. Another example is Koffi Olomide. He already finished Ultimatum in Kenya back in 1996, but lost all the data when he came in Paris to mix it, so he to record it over again.

Losing all that hard work really pisses the artist off surely they could've had back up.

It seems like Defao was very productive in the 90's did he left Choc Stars in 91 right ? I would like to know his discography. He was releasing like 2 or 3 albums per year.

Things I noticed about Defao is he loves remixing his songs and likes mixing albums in Paris.

General Defao was on his way to becoming a megastar but unfortunately, the collapse of Big Stars along with other personal reasons (political, economical) has stunted his way.
He was very famous in the 90s, especially when Amour Interdit came out. The Famille Kikuta remix with Mboka Liya propelled his stardom, when Sala Noki came, that brought him even more success with the concert in Abidjan. The Ndombolo era was a great period fr.
