He’d be a puppet just like Tshisekedi is.... same would’ve been true with Katumbi or JP Mbemba.....FrancAfrique - the west will continue to run the shots - they were glad to have a docile guy like Fatshi come to power. His dad was too radical, that’s why LD Kabila became the selected guy to replace Mobutu

Agree to disagree; Etienne was publicly a hard-lining opposition to Mobutu. He called for the persecution of Mobutu and anyone close to him. Fatshi is much more docile and has not called out politicians like his father

if what you say is true and everybody knows this and how geopolitics maneuver then why call Tshisekedi all sort of names and say Kabila is the real President when in reality neither Kabila nor Tshisekedi call the shot. i don't understand why some people be mad and calling for change in Congo when they should be directing their anger and plight to the west because they're the ones who pick and run the show, the last time Africa had real independent leaders was 50yrs ago

Bro, Tshisekedi shoulders responsibility as to why RDC descended into a failed state. The 1967 Constitution that he co-wrote established a unitary government with an executive office absent of term limits. The man has a doctorate in law; there's no way he could have not known the consequences of such a charter, especially if the wrong person becomes president!
Granted, he was pursecuted for levying criticism against the regime. However, he utilized none of the international support he had to galvanize the necessary support required to take over the government.

LD Kablia blacklisted him from participating in government activities during his tenure, but what about after his assassination in 2001? He could have reached out to the international or intelligence community abroad to promise economic concessions in exchange for his movement to be armed and assisted with logistics to stage a takeover during the chaos following LD Kabilia's death.
In 2006 and 2011, he insist on playing the fair game in a country where there hasn't been a peaceful ascension to power. His legacy is synonymous with bold promises and settling among the unacomplished. You can't point to one actionable reform he is responsible for that the people of Congo are better for that sacrifice...
I'm not sure his legacy is as significantly positive as people make it out to be...
